I don't love losing other independents, but I don't think it is the end of the world either. I don't think conferences will stick with 9 conference games because it will hurt them in playoff selection and in scheduling flexibility.
That said, our best hope is football splitting off from other conference alignments.
The idea is the Television networks paying the big money might start demanding more conference games or more games against P4 opponents. It's also long overdue that the annual game against an FCS opponent gets eliminated due to poor ratings or at least the desire to increase ratings.
We literally are relying on the good will of other schools to schedule us and keep our football team afloat. Hopefully Army doesn't remove us from their schedule next year if they land an AAC invite, i'm sure the lobbying has already started.
At this point we should probably take a MAC football only offer if we get one.
