Anthony: Something Needs To Change On Travel Front

I don't know. One thing when comparing this crop of players vs a 95, 99, 04, 06, 09, 11, 14 team is that the guys on the floor (our team plus the opposition) were so much better than what we have to currently compare them to. While Gilbert looks good compared to Adams, Vital, Polley, etc. and...

Anthony: Something Needs To Change On Travel Front

Alterique (sans shoulder) is similar to freshman Kemba. He would play some. CV could play a backup 3 and D guy. Provided he reeled in his shot selection, which, on a great team, I think he would.

    Alterique update 2.0

UConn looks to cure road woes, likely without Alterique Gilbert There is good news for UConn fans, however. Gilbert’s shoulder soreness is not related to the three prior surgeries he’s had over the past three years. His shoulder is structurally sound. At this point, it’s just a matter of getting...

    Dan Hurley Coach's Show 1/29/19

All that matters is that the shoulder surgery worked, this is good news. I remember Alterique running into some hellacious picks earlier in the season too, this can't happen anymore.

    Alterique update

I agree. I say we make Livin' on a Prayer the official anthem of Alterique's shoulder. Although I suppose it does make a difference if we make it or not.

    Alterique update

We were playing well against a team in our conference. Crowd was pumped. The guys looked quick, athletic and skilled. I was happy. Alterique was guarding the ball. An opponent set a ball screen that alterique didn’t see. His left shoulder banged into the screener and he dropped to floor in pain...

    Joober's Jots - Drexel

Here's a series that's bound to go well and without any self-inflicted embarrassment. The first half of the game was officiated far too tightly on both sides. It was a constant onslaught of "just let 'em play" moments. The 2nd foul on Adams was a horrible call and I thought at that point we...

    Alterique

It's unfortunate that Jalen hasn't been able to reduce his flaws during his first 3 years. Because guys like Shabazz Napier would kill for his athleticism.
  9. superjohn

    Alterique

Jalen has a lot of natural talent but not nearly enough athleticism or dog in him to overcome all of his flaws. The only thing that has kept Alterique back is his shoulder, he will be a lot better than Jalen. We will be a much better team next year with Alterique leading a more talented group.

    Boatright Vs Gilbert Comparison

In the past 3 years Alterique has had 3 shoulder surgeries and played in only 15 games and he’s ‘only’ going to be as good as one of UConns top 10 pgs of all time. We have no idea how good he can be.

    Garden thoughts

He hit a three on the return after the turnover. I think Hurley forgot about the missed dunk mistake after the shot. AG with his shoulder history issues shouldn't be dunking

Which players do you think fans are sleeping on for this season?

I wouldn't say fans are sleeping on Alterique. The only concern anyone is having is that his shoulder doesn't hold up, and the only reason people see him coming off the bench to start is that he's going to have to knock off some rust at first. Pretty much the whole board agrees he's our 2nd best...

Gilbert Excited To Be Back On The Court

To be fair, if that's all it took to take out his shoulder, it was gonna go sooner or later. Better for us that it was sooner. Heck, maybe we should all be thanking DO cause he took Alterique's arm off before he had played 8 games. Preserved a year of his eligibility! DO's a smart kid who...

    Back to Precious

Precious is a more important get in terms of replenishing our NBA ranks than in terms of on-court title potential IMO. If we get, say, Akok Akok and Wahab, given the mix of our projected roster for next year, you could actually make the argument that a 5th year combo guard would actually be the...

Because he finally had a different surgery with a world renowned surgeon that would correct the problem and prevent it from reoccurring. Dr. Hoop said it's 95% successful. Alterique Gilbert Update From what I've read about the Latarjet procedure as performed by somebody like Dr. Provencher...

    Alterique Training

Have you seen his shoulder hold up in full pace division 1 basketball yet? Of course it's still an "if". Putting up shots and playing pickup with the team is one thing. Playing a competitive division 1 basketball game 30 times over is another thing. Why are people on here in denial about...

That's a good way to put it. Once there was that brace kerfuffle--'waiting at the last minute for a stronger brace'--at the beginning of the year, I knew we were on borrowed time.

    Alterique Training

I just watched that first half again, keeping an eye on Alterique. Lots of touches, really integral to the offense, but I guess everyone knows that. It was a different team with him on the floor. Only player driving to the hoop whether in transition or set offense.

    Alterique Training

Alterique looked like he was carrying a brick on his shoulder the first 4 games last year. Played well to start the year while still not looking right. Can't wait to see what another year of maturity and supposed full health will do to his game. Friendly reminder that less than a year ago we...

    Jalen Gaffney to UConn

Wow, Danny Hurley is getting me too hyped up. He's organized, focused, able to develop and follow a plan, and seems to have put together a staff that is just as committed as he is to making UConn great again. Will Chief be making and distributing the celebratory hats? "Coach [Dan] Hurley laid...

    Pre-Season Prediction Thread

I think that just better coaching and some guts and inspiration should flip 3-5 of the close losses to close wins. Ultimately, that's what separates 14-16 and 19-12, which is my prediction. I see us going 1-2 in the three pre season major games due to our bad interior play and time for the...

    Annual True/False & why

    1. Jalen Adams wins POY in the American? False. The rest of the team will be good enough that he doesn't have to carry them. Fewer minutes too. 2. Team averages 72 or more points per game this year. ( last yr 68.2) True. Closer to 75. 3. Team is capable of a 3 pt fg pct of 35% or more...

    Annual True/False & why

It's hard to do this objectivly as a fan, but I'll try 1) yes. He has the talent, and now he has the coach 2)true. Hurley will have them playing a proper offense, not the streetball chaos of Ollie 3)true. You said capable, so I am going in that. Doesn't mean they will actually do it 4)hard one...

    Andy Katz AAC 2018-19 Preview

    5. UCONN Best player: Jalen Adams, who Dan Hurley wants (needs) to live up to that moniker every day in practice and in games. Best newcomers: Brendan Adams, a freshman and brother of Jaylen (not Jalen), and A-10 Sixth Man of the Year Tarin Smith, a grad transfer from Duquesne who played for...

    A Confident Statement

Yes, it's prudent to hold off on Alterique until the shoulder proves to be fully mended. But let's also remember that Alterique has never played with a sound shoulder, even when he was winning McD AA honors. There's a chance, perhaps a 1/3 chance, that the shoulder will at last be fully...

Day 1 of Summer Workouts complete Video

he's coming off of multiple shoulder surgeries and is basically two years removed from competitive basketball. He will have made one hell of a recovery if he's starting game one. Hopefully it happens but I wouldn't be counting on it.

    Upcoming season’s 3 Point Shooting

Coaching will help by generating more open shots and training passers and shooters to get the ball with the shooter in good position and ready to get the shot off quickly. With improved point guard play adding Alterique, there should be more openings. So Jalen's 33% and Christian's 32% should...

Borges: Roster looks to be set for 2018-19 season

    1. The 5th guard is absolutely not a luxury when one of your projected starters is coming off of two lost seasons from shoulder injuries. 2. If Alterique gets hurt and misses the year, it's not a lost season at all, and that fifth guard becomes very important. Just because Kevin Ollie couldn't...
