Defeated the ACC champions Puke, then their starting QB and 1st backup QB portaled away. Can’t blame them for leaving the school and Durham.

A key paragraph from the article:

"For some, a solution is emerging: Each conference should govern itself, enforce its own rules and, perhaps even, compete solely with its own members."

We are almost there aren't we? No more NCAA, no more oversight, don't worry, just come to the games and buy Merch.

Each conference competing solely with its own members is what stood out to me. That would be a bold strategy.

Won’t happen in basketball due to money generated by the tournament .

Football ? Yeah I could see it though ESPN would demand, at least, a postseason between SEC and ACC. Teams with big ( money making) and historical annual interconference rivalries like FSU and UF would oppose it.;

I think an event will break off from the NCAA is inevitable exactly because of the money generated by the tournament. If each conference was self-governing, but agreed to a collective tournament, that would be a big potential windfall.

Go figure! A school that never really competed in any sport in its entire existence wins the lottery and winds up in BIG.

It’s the classic family wins lottery and 5 years later a completely broke.

The foundation wasn’t there, the culture wasn’t there, and they still suck as an AD. But they are still in BIG.

The Big10 has to know how very wrong they were to include Rutgers. Have any of these conferences ever kicked out members?? I’m including the ACC in this too. I’m just curious.

They didn't make a mistake. By inviting Rutgers, they got access to higher pricing on first tier cable in the New York City DMA, plus they got access to higher pricing on the first tier of cable in the New Jersey DMA. New Jersey has over 9 million people in it. It was entirely a money grab and not in any way intended to improve the conference. From that perspective, it was entirely successful.

The Big 10 jumped on the cable bandwagon just as cord cutting was starting. This is like bragging about having the hottest pager store in the Hartford area in 1999.
