The problem is all the royalty outside of UConn is already in the P4.

Remember in the past 50-60 years, UConn and nova are the only two non-P2/3/4 schools to win basketball championships.

Those same 70 schools will join to take over the basketball tournaments also. This is a scenario many here were concerned about and why they felt it necessary to save football. There were detractors, mainly basketball focused yarders, who did not believe it could happen. This is a possible future.

Right. In one group you'll have UCLA, Kentucky, North Carolina, Duke, Kansas, Indiana, Mich St, Louisville, Indiana, and the rest of the P2/3/4.

In the competing tournament you'll have UConn, Villanova, and SDSU and maybe Gonzaga.

Tough call as to which tournament will get $$$$, eyeballs and press coverage.
 
Why would the SEC/B1G do this? It literally gives them nothing. They already print money. They control their own destiny. Why give away money to Private Equity?

They've already won. There's no need for them to change anything at all.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Benedict is the opposite of monitoring.

He’s moved team for AAC to bjg east, tried big 12 3 times. Had convo with pac-2.

I mean, he's doing all he can .

How do we know that? Well, because something we wanted to happen didn't happen and claiming that you "did all you could" sounds better than "we were not successful."

I'm not saying Dave could've done more, I'm just saying a sad face with the quote "we did all we could" is the family crest of failure.

Nah.

This may sound like reason and logic, but it's not. When people negotiate, they negotiate either from a position of weakness or a position of power. In most of these discussions, which one do you think Benedict is operating from??

In the one situation where he actually could say no (Pac12 football), he did. It's maybe worth it to find out more about why. But if you think that he could have done any better than getting Yormark and a few of the Big12 presidents on our side, then what else do you think he should have done do make it unanimous???

I think you know how i feel about it. UConn should have long ago approached the ACC With Cal/Stanford type offer. Instead we got quotes of the we "we know our worth and don't want to be lowballed" variety. As soon as Clemson and FSU started chirping, they should have offered to take a reduced share. Should have been 1st in line. But at this point, it feels like whatever.

That sounds like a Linkedin Post telling me to embrace failure.

There is nothing more that UConn can do. When you say, doing all he can, that means that the decision is not in your hands and you have pulled out all your leverage and there are no more cards to play.

Y’all act like UConn got out manuevered, something that is a self serving vignette from
Tom Jurich and Chris Conte.

They didn't do any more than Warde Manuel or Jeff Hathaway, they just created this mythology.

The fact is no one wants UConn. It is cultural, geographical, financial, political reasons.

All 4 don't work in UConn’s favor and there has yet to be a conference that satisfies all four of this ‘als.

Lol, sorry to have touched a nerve John. It wasn't a personal commentary on you and heck wasn't even a commentary on Benedict. It was a commentary on the use of the phrase "oh well, he did all he could" As a de facto excuse for failure.

Bottom line, you have no idea whether or not Benedict, or anyone else did "everything they could do" to advert failure. Suggesting to the contrary is just an example of the intuitive social phenomena toward consolation. I'm not being critical of it, I'm just pointing it out for what it is.

(PS do people actually post on your LinkedIn telling you to accept failure? )

They were in the Big East when they won and it was part of the BCS, forerunner of the P5. Plus they ended up in a P4 league now. You could even say that about our 2004 and 2011 titles. We were in a BCS league which was the equivalent of the P leagues today.

How can ESPN give the ACC better time slots? Those go to the SEC. They spent a lot of money on the SEC and the SEC gets much higher ratings than the ACC. No way will Boston College @ Cal have a better channel/time slot than any SEC game.

The two key media products for the ACC are men's basketball and football. Basketball can probably get some good time slots if the ACC schools improve their basketball product. UNC/Duke will always be a top drawer, but too many of the ACC schools (Louisville, Syracuse, Pitt, Wake Forest,...) are in a depressed state. And, ESPN also has Big 12 (partial) and SEC basketball and they have some top teams as well. In football, the ACC faces a worse situation as ESPN has rights to the SEC and some of the Big 12 as well as the ACC. There are just not enough time slots on the top channels. And, the ACCN is a captive cable channel which is hanging on for dear life as the cable bundles unravels. If you take good games off the ACCN, how will it survive in the unbundled world?
