When I worked in the system, the NC State system and the UNC system were separate.
All the public universities are overseen by a single UNC System Board of Governors/President (and have been forever). The individual schools have their own Chancellors/Board of Trustees however.

Because it isn't run by the UNC Chancellor, we considered the state system separate. We were wrong.

Their never has been a separate NC State system. The current governance structure makes each campus independent from each other but they all answer to BOG. So you are correct in that the Chancellor/BOT's at UNC have no authority over NCSU, ECU UNCC etc

This guy has some interesting charts. UConn looks good here.

1702233995451.png

We are third in absolute dollars after California and ASU.

If you look in the "alumni stuff" thread you will see that the university is planning on expanding the Hartford campus to add research facilities. It would be smarter to add those at the main campus. If you look at that chart above it notes that it only includes research dollars spent at the primary campus. That is the same approach that the AAU takes.

I know. I posted the chart.

Which is supposedly one of Radenka Marics strengths, she also seems to be strongly aligned with Athletics.

I'll assume there's not a legal, ethical way for the money to go to Storrs and then Storrs does an intra-university transfer to Hartford's facilities?

Am I reading it wrong or are we 3rd in 1 yr growth at 65mil?
You are and you are not reading it wrong. Yes we are third in monetary growth among the top percentage growers, but a lot of the schools not on the list have huge research budgets, so large amounts of money make a less percentage growth. For instance if Michigan grew at $165 M this year, that would be only 10% and they would not be on the list at all, but have a much bigger $ growth.

Always thought Depot Campus was an overlooked gem of a resource. Out of box thinking could put all sorts of research facilities, industry/university partnerships(didn't we lose Pfizer??), possibly an adjunct Health Center Campus. Lots of Research $$$ on the "Main" Campus

Maybe, heaven forbid, a Football Stadium??!!

Thought the EO Smith/Depot campus swap was an interesting rumor.

Have you ever been in the Innovation Partnership Building on Discovery Drive? Amazing

Go Huskies.

To your point, an adjunct Depot Campus Health Center devoted to Research as well as undergraduate education could probably finesse some of those moneys into the right column.

Is it because of the AAU that they emphasize research dollars on the main campus?

It seems looking at it that way is short sighted since many schools have things spread across multiple campuses for practical purposes.

Doesn't matter. I think it's a physical location kind of a thing.

That makes sense. And things always unravel in these threads. This is the wording below from the tweet in post 19,722 which appears to be correct in terms of affecting the "UNC System:"

"The next UNC chancellor may have to decide what athletic conference the Tar Heels play in — a move that could have huge implications for the university, the state, the ACC, other UNC System schools (most notably NC State) and its rivalry with Duke. No biggie."

It is, but the thing is the health center is in Farmington (and from what I understand aligned with Hartford hospital) so this school needs to be on the vicinity of those two.

Of a major medical center existed in or near Mansfield our entire medical school could be within the campus.

Put it in Storrs, and use a shuttle bus to take the students between campuses

lol.
There is NOT going to be a medical school in Storrs. Med schools need patients, meaning a local population to serve.

Which is why I question why only main campus research “counts”.
