Key tweets, and it's all gone to Hell.

List the schools, and then reevaluate in terms of intensity of fan support. Your analysis is legislators will act in support of G5 schools. In my opinion, they will do nothing so that they will not alienate the P2 schools fans. Taking action puts them at risk. Doing nothing does not.
Here's how to think about this. The Sports Broadcasting Act of 1961 (NFL anti-trust) was passed by the House, Senate, and signed into law by the President. The P2 leaves out too many schools and states to be able to get legislation through Washington.

So, in Florida, alienate the fans of Florida St., Miami, UCF, USF, FIU, FAU? Not happening.

Here's another way to look at fan support. Combined average attendance by game of P2 vs non-P2 schools by state:

Florida: P2: 89.6k, non-P2: 244.4k
Texas: P2: 200.8K, non-P2: 339.6k
California: P2: 113.9k, non-P2: 153.4k
Ohio: P2: 103.8k, non-P2: 113.9k

This is an arguement I've been making for a couple of years; if there is bi-partisan political will across numerous states that have non-P2 (D1-D3) impacted states (which is basically all 50 states), then it's going to be difficult for a P2 breakoff. Unless the FB P2 agrees to some sort of large March Madness concession. Maybe there are other concessions the P2 could make as well.

Devil is always in the details:

-> MW BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT: The conference basketball tournament will remain in Las Vegas, Nevada. (Note: The league was not considering moving the event outside of Las Vegas, though had explored moving the tournament out of the Thomas & Mack Center on UNLV’s campus. It has been reported that it will now remain at the Thomas & Mack, though all that is spelled out in the MOU is that it remain in Las Vegas).

OFFICES MOVING: Though it’s unclear why this would be included in an MOU of this nature, clause eight reads: “The conference will move its offices to Las Vegas, Nevada, as soon as practicable after the expiration of its existing office lease in Colorado Springs, Colorado, and such Conference offices shall remain in Las Vegas, Nevada, at least through the end of the Term of this MOU and the Grant of Rights Agreement.” The league’s headquarters have been in Colorado Springs since December 1998.

MOVING FORWARD: Notably, any MW member school invited to join the ACC, Big Ten, Big 12 or SEC can leave without penalty. And the MOU can be modified only in writing and with both the league and 3/4 of the member schools. <-

True. Alienating Gator fans is also some thing that's not going to happen, however. So where would that leave a politician with reasonably well-developed self preservation instincts? The answer is sitting silently on the sidelines.

With material opposition on either side of an issue, politicians won't take a side.

Sitting on the sidelines means any legislation won't pass.

How is all this picking up steam so fast out of no where with every scenario excluding anyone whos not in the haves effective immediately?

This opens up a lot of anti trust issues with the G5 and others. Essentially, if they take private equity, the are going to be subject to anti-trust accusations.

I just don’t see the rest of college athletics willing to allow this kind of consolidation. Also, that also opens up the league as a for profit enterprise.

Just way too complicated.

Agree. Didn’t we just turn our noses at a FB only invite because it was “not a good fit?” Join now, worry later.
The PAC as newly reconfigured isn't part of the 70, but it appears that Project Rudy does include Washington State and Oregon State, at least when they started working on the proposal. The schools in the P4 Conferences total 67, plus ND makes 68. The other two must be Washington State and Oregon State.

The 70 schools, for the most part, represent the largest schools in a state. I doubt that senators or congressmen from those states will support anti-trust action Initiated by the DOJ. Yes, there may be other schools of consequence in these states but it won’t move the needle from a political perspective.

if we have a PAC offer we should take it Now.

Fight fire with fire - round up the royalty in college BB and take over MM. There is big money to be made once we get the NCAA and its plantation control of MM out of the picture.

In the meantime, I hope Benedict is doing more than "monitoring" the situation...
