So thats how they do sausage there, eh? How was the flavor? I usually don’t like huge slices, let alone hockey pucks like that lol I grew up on a place that did the more shredded, Greco style sausage. But I am of a similar vein. Modern is the go-to in that it’s the most consistent… but when Sally’s is hitting (and it isn’t always), it’s probably the best
That look’s perfect for s sausage and peppers sandwich.Lorenzo's II, Rt 80 in Guilford. Check out their bread!!View attachment 117195
So soft inside. For sangwiches, they have crusty hard rolls. Will try one next week. That look’s perfect for s sausage and peppers sandwich.
Thanks for the warning. I almost talked about pizza that was not the best and not in CT.It's almost time to start talking about Pizza again 😩
Maybe we need a best crusty Italian bread thread. It ain’t easy to find them, but that looks great.Lorenzo's II, Rt 80 in Guilford. Check out their bread!!View attachment 117195
My neighborhood is 20%+ Italian ... solid pizza and Italian restaurants everywhere
I know it’s a pizza thread but what’s the best meatball hero in Ct.? The bread is often the weak link.
Grinder.I know it’s a pizza thread but what’s the best meatball hero in Ct.? The bread is often the weak link.
Wedge.Grinder.
It’s a Ct. Term and I’m now in Florida where I have no idea what they are called. Subs I think.Grinder.
Yes, subs in Florida. I moved to Florida from Connecticut and I have to correct myself and not say grinder. It’s a Ct. Term and I’m now in Florida where I have no idea what they are called. Subs I think.
Going to have to give it a try and decide for myself. My go-to guy for info, who has tried more pizzas across the state than anyone I know, (well known IG food/beer personality in CT) texted me last week after he visited Bartone that the pies look great but lack flavor. Suggested that I am better off still going to Roseland.Swung by Bartone in Derby Sunday to grab a pie to share with a friend in Shelton who's been tied to her house wth a newly neutered pup. A bit underwhelming set up, no bar (despite the name) or even beer. Walk-in order around 430, phones for delivery ringing constantly, I was out in 20 minutes. Large cheese (bigger than the 18" box) with sausage (good, lamberti chunks) and pepperoni (avg/typical), excellent 3-day fermented crust. Not too saucey or cheesey, tiny bit greasy, guessing b/c of those toppings (her call, I prefer NH red pie with grated only). $3 for a cup of freshly grated peccorino but was 3-4 ounces. The bake had a nice leoparded undercarriage, a little flop. Strange was half the crust was Modern -style bake/rise with Pepes style bake on the other half. Believe its a gas deck oven. Better than Roseland, (30% cheaper @ $25, no wait), much better than Tipsy Tomato, Callaroso and Fire Engine. I'll try a medium NH red pie if I return. 1 minute off the CT 8 RT 34 exit in Derby
Thats a good looking pie. Agreed, don't need that pepperoni.View attachment 117967
Bartone Derby 3/8/26 I would have gone for bacon (assumming its pre-cooked) and onion, light cheese, but it wasn't my call. The pepperoni wasn't worth it, good sausage
took me years to stop. Now I'm moving back to CTYes, subs in Florida. I moved to Florida from Connecticut and I have to correct myself and not say grinder.
If they haven't spent time in Italy they will have no clue.Pepperoni is an abomination and should be outlawed...now salsiccia piccante (what pepperoni wishes it could be) is another matter and really makes the flavor pop.
Spot on mate! Anybody asking for pepperoni on a pizza in Italy would be met with an incredulous look and a schiaffo to the back of the head.If they haven't spent time in Italy they will have no clue.
There's no reason to eat pizza in Italy.Spot on mate! Anybody asking for pepperoni on a pizza in Italy would be met with an incredulous look and a schiaffo to the back of the head.
OMG, you trolling, right? I've had some great pizza in the south of Italy where my parents are from, and some great pizza up north where many of uncles, aunts, and cousins have relocated. And I'm not talking about tourist areas but where the locals go to eat. The worst I had was in Venezia. There's no reason to eat pizza in Italy.
