You know??... you're right. 15 greek pizza places in Bristol and one of the only Neopolitan places, Chunky Tomato is the best one in town.
 
Thank you to whoever recommended Bartone’s in Derby! NH style thin crust. Well worth the hour drive from my place. Had the sausage and yellow onion pie and left happy. Parking isn’t great, but doesn’t matter.

Can anyone provide intel regarding de legna a nolo in NH and / or Good old days in newtown? On the hit list, but long drives and don’t want to waste trips.
 
I can't believe there is a 387 page thread on such a mediocre food. You people have obviously never had Indian or Mediterranean food. Much better than pizza.
 
Yesterday my wife and I went to a mom & pop Greek place nearby. Had a great meal. They also have a takeout bakery. I got myself a spicy tomato and feta phyllo tart. Best thing I've eaten this year.

Know what else is made primarily of dough, cheese and tomato?

I grew up in Newtown. Good Ole Days is quite good, although it doesn't look like much. Sneaky good.
 
I was swinging by New Haven so I called ahead and told Sally’s. I need a sausage pizza in 20 minutes. It was early, so no wait.

I figured I would try the sausage since I always get the pepperoni and my plan was to take it home. But when I put it in the trunk, there was no way I couldn’t try a slice. It was cold out and the pizza was piping hot.

I ended up having four slices on the way home with the paper plate on my lap.

Modern was my favorite, but on this day it was Sally’s.

Sally’s is the best. Unless sometimes when it’s wicked overrated.
 
I’m surprised that this thread was started a while ago and I have not seen it. I only read a couple of pages but will backtrack as I’m a pizza fan. I saw that Whole Foods was mentioned. For Connecticut people a new WF recently opened one in Cheshire. This Saturday I actually went to check out the store and noticed their pizza. To me it looked nasty and I would never buy a slice or a whole pie. Costco was brought up as well. I live in Waterbury and am at the store often. Like many others I will buy a slice if hungry or a whole pizza to take home as a quick meal because it’s affordable. However, Costco pizza has no flavor. No spice in their sauce.

Of the Top 5 pizza locations in Connecticut I have only been to two locations. Pepe’s in New Haven as well as their location in my city. Plus, Sally’s. but this was a long time ago and it was very good. This shows that I need to drive the 35 minutes to New Haven and try the others. That I will look forward today’s.

If anyone thinks that pizza in Italy is better I beg to differ. I know that everyone has their preference. I happen to like a thicker crust over a thin slice. So this debate will continue. Enjoy eating.

So thats how they do sausage there, eh? How was the flavor? I usually don’t like huge slices, let alone hockey pucks like that lol I grew up on a place that did the more shredded, Greco style sausage. But I am of a similar vein. Modern is the go-to in that it’s the most consistent… but when Sally’s is hitting (and it isn’t always), it’s probably the best

No doubt. Sally’s is the best when it’s hitting. But sometimes it doesn’t hit.

Yes, subs in Florida. I moved to Florida from Connecticut and I have to correct myself and not say grinder.
 
Swung by Bartone in Derby Sunday to grab a pie to share with a friend in Shelton who's been tied to her house wth a newly neutered pup. A bit underwhelming set up, no bar (despite the name) or even beer. Walk-in order around 430, phones for delivery ringing constantly, I was out in 20 minutes. Large cheese (bigger than the 18" box) with sausage (good, lamberti chunks) and pepperoni (avg/typical), excellent 3-day fermented crust. Not too saucey or cheesey, tiny bit greasy, guessing b/c of those toppings (her call, I prefer NH red pie with grated only). $3 for a cup of freshly grated peccorino but was 3-4 ounces. The bake had a nice leoparded undercarriage, a little flop. Strange was half the crust was Modern -style bake/rise with Pepes style bake on the other half. Believe its a gas deck oven. Better than Roseland, (30% cheaper @ $25, no wait), much better than Tipsy Tomato, Callaroso and Fire Engine. I'll try a medium NH red pie if I return. 1 minute off the CT 8 RT 34 exit in Derby
