OT: Best Pizza in CT

Yeah. Stretches has been closed for at least three years. Time to close this thread.
Rumor I heard was that they really had a good time outside of their work and let's just say it kept them from working as much as they should have.
Sucks because their pizza was great.

The owner worked for a long time at First and Last in Hartford. The pizza was great but the business was a disaster. You’d order a pizza, they say it would be ready at 6:00 and it would easily be an hour late.

Yep, he's shaking everyone's hand all night and talking to everyone instead of cooking but the food was great. I've yet to have a bad meal there. The specials are incredibly expensive, they don't list the specials prices but the waitress tells you them if you ask. I was looking at a wild boar ragu special and she told me it's $80. Never order the specials unless you are okay with the price and never order appetizers because they always bring you complimentary appetizers and the entrees are enormous.

My chicken parm was $32, I have a big appetite and it was three meals worth of food for me. I could see the enormous portions served in oversized pans and wooden boats being a turn off to some but I'll take it any day over a place like Materia in Litchfield which is incredibly expensive and you leave the restaurant starving.
Had a great evening there with friends 4 weeks ago. First time. Starts with a sip of Limoncello. Antonio working the room is part of the ambience. BTW-He's happy to give input on a wine choice. Plan on taking some food home. Will be going back.

Curious about Geppetto Osteria in Torrington.

America is Falling Out of Love with Pizza

They lost me with the comparison of pizza places with coffee shops. And there is no pizza price war anywhere near me. Pizza cost me double what it did before Covid. And if I have it delivered, I used to tip the driver five bucks for driving 2 miles. Now it's seven bucks to the pizza place plus whatever I tip the driver.

My theory is single boomers can no longer eat an entire pizza.

Auriemma was not impressed with whatever pizza they served the women's team post game last night. Wonder where it was from? Domino's? Marketing opportunity for Pepe's to get them some pizza next game. Lol

“The Pizza Capital of the world, my ass,” Auriemma said while taking a seat, 20 minutes or so after the Huskies’ 99-50 victory over Villanova. The pizza delivered to the UConn locker room, in Auriemma’s opinion, was not good. He equated it to sauce smeared over cardboard and then pointed out longtime Philadelphia sportswriter Mel Greenberg.

“Don’t believe those signs, Mel, when you come into Connecticut, ‘Pizza Capital of the World,’” Auriemma said. “We’re going to get better pizza, I promise you. I’ll bring some for you guys to taste it. The good stuff, when we get the good stuff. Not the crap we’re passing off as pizza now. Being Italian and being from Philly, no, sorry. It doesn’t live up to the standards of UConn or the State of Connecticut.”

The article is too focused on pizza chains. America still wants good pizza not Pizza Hut.

My wife had a meeting at Sally’s in Wethersfield last week and brought me home a tomato pie. It’s was very good, flavor was fantastic, crust perfect. I’d say maybe the only slight difference is it may have been just a little thicker than New Haven. But not enough to ruin a great pie!

Hmmm,
Unfortunately, my experience when Sally’s first opened (3 months after opening) in Wethersfield was not a good one. While the pie has the potential to be excellent, the overall opening experience was disappointing, particularly in terms of service and execution. It left a much different impression than what I’ve come to expect from the Sally’s name or New Haven location.
I’m hopeful these were opening issues that have since been addressed. Unfortunately a medium pie for 40 bucks without any toppings other than cheese is a bit too much to absorb. However, if it was a meeting and being written off as an expense than yes, good pie, lol.

Sometimes Sally’s is the absolute best then sometimes it’s overrated.

He's right, you know.

I called this one. Lol.

Following the Huskies' dominant 85-47 victory over Notre Dame Monday evening, Auriemma offered media members pies from the iconic Wooster Street staple Frank Pepe's Pizzeria. This gesture came after he began his previous post-game press conference with disparaging, ultimately viral remarks about the quality of Connecticut pizza.

"We have high standards here," Auriemma said Monday. "Now, Storrs is the pizza capital of the world."

To be fair, they probably had Willington or Husky Pizza which on their good day is mediocre pizza at best in my opinion. If you want good pizza I think the closest decent pizzeria to campus is Mulberry Street Pizza in Manchester and that is probably 30 minutes away.

Geno gonna get run out of CT for calling it “pizza” AND putting the emphasis on “NEW” in New Haven. Next thing you know, he’ll start recruiting in Heb-RON and Dairy-in.

He did sarcastically mention that they were trying to teach him how to say pizza.

For the record, where he is from (Montella) is only about 40 miles from Naples, and about 20 miles from where my grandmother (Nonna) was from (Cerreto Sannita), also about 40 miles from Naples. My grandmother never dropped the L when saying la pizza (she did pronounce it labeets), so I imagine that part may be from the city of Naples.

It turns out the “bad stuff” came from UConn Dining Services 🤦‍♂️

Went to Zanelli's in New Haven yesterday. Really good, super fresh ingredients, fantastic service. Different style than other Wooster Street pies
