OT: Best Pizza in CT

It's insanity. In my experience the pizza isn't what it used to be either. It's crazy they charge nearly $14 more than Modern and get away with it.
 
My wife had to do some work in New Haven Friday and took her team out for lunch they selected Bar Pizza. So she bought me a tomato pie. Can’t really rank it fairly when it lands 4-5 hours later even after heating in the oven. But it was only ok nothing to go crazy over. Not enough sauce and while I like thin a lot not sure on paper thin. But again guessing much better in person.

Do you like Red Rose in Springfield? (I’m assuming you’ve been). I think it’s very good. Again, not New Haven style, but delicious. Hoping to get there the weekend of the Wake football game. Missed it on the way up.

Piecasso in Stowe is excellent NY Style pizza. It is widely considered the best in the state and it is in fact, every bit as good as most very good pizza joints in CT. It isn’t Modern or Sally’s, but it isn’t trying to be. I definitely think it’s better than Pepe’s in Danbury.

My brother's lived in Fayston VT for fifteen years and has me bring Pepe's up for Xmas every year because the pizza up there is a joke (his words) as is all of the food (Italian, Chinese, etc) compared to CT. Flatbread pizza is what goes for pizza up there. All that being said, I guess you found a decent place in Stowe.

Nothing good in Burlington? Honestly, if you decide to live in the boonies of VT you can't really complain that there's no good pizza or any ethnic food. I'm sure there are some good root vegetables up that way. :)

Red Rose good call @Hoophound and add their family salad to your order as well, house dressing is excellent. Yeah the Rose is one of very few decent pizza places in Western Mass for sure. Certainly not New Haven but having lived up here for 34 years easy to like. Since they built the bar area about the time MGM tried to buy them it’s one of my favorite places to go with my wife and buddies. Hope you get to swing in that weekend!

Recently had Rossini's in East Hampton, CT again. I gotta think it's the best pizza east of the river. Very affordable too - a large pepperoni pie was gigantic and $22.50ish all in

Fayston is nice, but there isn’t much there. Piecasso in Stowe is great, Positive Pie has 3 northern VT locations. It’s also excellent. Juniors in Williston is very good, as is their Italian food. Salute in Stowe is an excellent Italian joint. Burlington and the surrounding area is foodie heaven. So many great places, but again, you’ve gotta try to find them. The Internet is a must when you are in a new place.

People need to know what’s around. In Florida I’ve got 3 pizza places with 2.5 miles of my house that are incredible. That doesn’t even include a place about 4 miles away that Portnoy gave a 7.8 or an amazing wood fired place that does Pizza Napoletana with an old Italian recipe that I consider absolutely fantastic. All are owned by former NY/NJ restaurant owners, yet people say Florida is a pizza wasteland. It isn’t, but it’s hard to get off a plane someplace you aren’t familiar with and know where to get a great pizza, especially by your own definition of what’s good. There’s a pizza place every quarter mile, most aren’t very good just like in CT.

Best pizza east of the CT River? Harry's in Glastonbury WAS great, but they went out of business a few years ago. Square Peg is pretty good, but they struggle with cooking an otherwise really good pizza evenly. I can think of a bunch of good pizza places east of the river, but I'm not sure I'd tag any of them as great.

Brick & Basil in Norwich was making really quite good pizza out of their truck but they recently moved into a restaurant space? Haven't been lately and idk if it's the same. Old Mystic General Store actually made really solid pizza but closed. Sassano in Glastonbury was very good but changed owners and I haven't been back to try it since; I've heard it's not as good. Camille's in Tolland is good and I like Willington Pizza, but Rossini's clears both imo.

Pepe's in Manchester is better than Rossini's. I've had Rossini's a few times because we have some family in East Hampton. It's pretty good but nothing too great.

Willy pizza has fallen off a cliff from what I remember as a student at UConn. I went back last fall after a Gampel game and was disgusted (and partially offended) by the pizzas I got; and my standards for acceptable/edible pizza are hilariously low at least compared to the snobs in this thread

On a slightly different tack:

What toppings are favored around CT? I've seen some strange toppings listed that I wouldn't want on ANY pizza, any style.

I go for the generally Italian meats, like pepperoni, sausage, linguica, salami. Most of the time, just one or two toppings. If I have pesto, just pesto and cheese, nothing else. A little parmesan sprinkle, maybe.

No clam, bbq, potato, chicken, veggies, bell peppers... EVAH.

Not even bacon, though I love the stuff by itself...

I get it if you don’t eat clams but if you do and don’t try the Zuppardi’s white clam you’ll be missing out on an amazing pie.

I certainly considered that lamooo but I was definitely not sober for my most recent trip either. Just absolutely disgraceful. Would’ve rather turned back to campus, gone to the dining hall, and get a slice from under the heat lamps.
