The Official 2024 NY Jets Thread

Let's be honest. There is no plan left here.

  • Rodgers has to go. I was all for the attempt, the Achilles injury will always be a "we'll never know" item, but without any shred of a doubt....he's not the answer.
  • Davante is here because of him and looks like he's leaking oil himself. No reason to keep him around either.
  • I haven't even noticed a single down where Hassan Reddick has made any difference. He's gone.
  • Garrett Wilson? Breece Hall? By the time their rookie deals expire, we'll be in full blown rebuild. Maybe you keep one of them?

  • GM, Head Coach, OC and DC are all going to be new. Our owner will likely be overseas the next 4 years.
Who in their right mind would sign up to join this mess? Rex Ryan would....but that's a step backwards and more circus than solution. I'd like to think Belichick's ego is so huge, this is the perfect spot to come in, gain complete control, rebuild the unfixable mess and stick it to Kraft.....but let's be honest, even he knows this is too big a job. If I'm a coordinator at a Detroit, Houston, Kansas City, etc....why wouldn't I stay there and play for a title as a coordinator?

An utter and complete disaster.

Beliichick hates the Jets…no way that happens.

You forgot to mention they have no QB in the near future….the draft for QBs isn’t great…and you know the Jets…they will win out the rest of their games and end up drafting 15th. best FA qb out there is Darnold….sigh.

I still like the Curtis Martin idea.

Ii saw in the Athletic today that Woody suggested benching Rodgers earlier this season after the Denver loss.

I think we don’t know just how dysfuntional this organization is.

Belichick was concerned about culture in the post-Hess era when he resigned as HC of the NYJ. Rumors of the Cowboys and Jags notwithstanding, why would he go to the Jets when it appears his concerns from 2000 have been confirmed? Besides that, the Jets are a dumpster fire and are in need of a complete tear down and rebuild. Not exactly a great fit for a control hungry Septuagenarian with questionable draft/player acquisition history.

Adams and Rogers are both signed through 2025 (along with 42 other Jets players) and will account for nearly 60M in dead cap, if they are cut. They aren't necessarily in cap hell. That designation is reserved for New Orleans, Cleveland, and maybe Seattle, but they are ranked in the bottom 1/3 of the league in terms of free 2025 cap space.

Of course there are those who believe that the Salary Cap doesn't matter, but the Jets need only to look down the hall for an example of what an albatross contract or two can do to a franchise.

I'm not saying Belichick ever would entertain it. BUT...if he ever really wanted to supreme flex and show the world (and TB....and Kraft) that he was always the lynchpin of the Pats dynasty, taking the Jets (and how terrible they are right now) and have them win a Super Bowl under his tutelage is the ultimate way of doing that.

Name another way to make that point more emphatically.

BB might take the job. Won't Woody be an ocean away?

Bill won't take that job. He might get the Giants job if Dabol is fired. Then the Jets can hire Dabol.

QB Plan - sign Justin Fields, draft Quinn Ewers or whoever they like best. Dabol can get something out of Fields while the other QB develops.

Why would he take the Giants job with nothing to start with there? He could go to Dallas, Jacksonville (with Lawrence at least), Chicago or yes, even the Jets, and have a much, much better starting point. Dallas makes the most sense if Jerry can get out of the way. And that's also why I can't shake the Jets as a thought at least. Woody will be overseas for 4 years and BB can move in and take over everything.

Lawrence brings back a bad memory.

the year is 2020….the Jets are 0-13. They are in the drivers seat for Trevor Lawrence and they are on the road facing the 9-4 Rams. They WIN! They then come home and beat the 10-4 Browns….they end up 2-14. Jacksonville ends up 1-15.

Jax gets Lawrence and Jets get Zach. Not that Lawrence has been a world beater…but picture him with this team (plus two additional second round picks they traded for Rodgers) you can at least see a path forward.

It is not fun being a Jets fan.

Or Peyton Manning returning for his senior year at Tennessee instead of declaring knowing the Jets had the #1 pick?
Or taking Ken O'Brien over Dan Marino?
Or passing on Pat Mahomes because Macagnan thought Christian Hackenberg was still their answer?
Or Mo Lewis collapsing Drew Bledsoe's lung and putting Tom Brady on the field?

Well, if we’re honest, Lawrence isn't good. Despite the can’t miss hype he just isn’t. Could he make it work? Eventually. But that team has been poorly managed for years.

Bill loves the Giants. The defense is pretty good. They have Nabers. They need a QB but Bill can get them to .500 with Dalton. They will have a very good draft position as well.

Dallas? Dak is the most overrated QB in NFL history. Has never done anything. Parsons is appealing but Jerry Jones? Not so much.

But all of those are more appealing than the Jets.

Thoughts on the Rex push to coach again?

Maybe he’s not a decade long fix. But can he get pride back in the building? He’s not wrong that the roster is talented and just not playing with emotion.

I didn't realize how bad it was. Hoping for intangibles? Like the old saw goes, if Rex is the answer; what is the question? The Jets (Pats, Gints) need a competant front office. Look what happened when the Mets got one. Player morale will improve the second Rodgers is gone.

I like Rex and his energy. I like the idea of hiring somebody who is familiar with the Jets culture and still wants to be there. I think he would have ideas on how to make the most of this defense.

I worry about the offensive side of the ball. THey have hired defensive head ooach after defensive head coach and they have stunk on offense for years. I especially worry about the offense because they don’t have a qb.

It’s hard to start over on offense with a defensive minded head coach.

I don’t disagree. But you can’t just fire a billionaire owner and he seems incapable of hiring anyone successful at building a team.

And I understand what hiring Rex looks like to other fan bases. My question would be, find someone who wants to be there, can take on the task of cleaning up this mess and don’t give me a semi-unknown NFL coordinator.

Thats why I like the idea of Curtis Martin as head of football operations. He wants to be there and has respect in the league. Let him hire the GM and HC.

Well. I'm off to FL on Thursday for golf and the Jets/Dolphins game with my old college roommate. He lives down there and someone in his neighborhood is an ESPN Exec with tickets to the game and he invited me down.

When I accepted the invite this August, I did not think the Jets would be 3-9 and one of the worst teams in football. Good thing he lives on a nice course and has a huge scotch collection.

Before yesterday’s game….I actually believed the Jets could win. They had a bye week to setttle in. They said Rodgers was the healthiest he had been all season. All skill players were healthy..D relatively healthy. Seahawks traveing across the country to play at 10 am.

nope. Bad luck…stupid penalties and an ineffective Rodgers does them in again.

Leonard Williams said something I read somewhere else before.….Rodgers plays like an old quarterback who doesn’t want to get hit. Chuck and duck.

I saw Rodgers on MacAfee about a month ago and he was using wired ear buds rather than air pods. MacAfee asked him why….and Rodgers said he had to protect his brain. I guess there is some belief that air pods are bad for your brain.

Anyway…i think Rodgers is at the point in his life where he is so fixated on crazy health stuff, he has finally realized that having a 300 DL land on him is unhealthy.

Rodgers is done…for the heck ot if, I would like to see what Tyrod Taylor can do these last few weeks.

Sadly…Rodgers contract…whether he retires or gets cut…or plays…will still kill the Jets the next couple years. But who cares..move on and try again with another qb.

They had a week off on bye to sharpen up the loose spots and they're 3 months into the season and they had a delay of game at home on 2nd down....then 12 men on the field. That's just 2 of the 10 penalties they had in the half. Inexcusable.

How about McDonald lining up in the neutral zone?

What are your thoughts on Ulbrich? I think he has too much Jets stink on him to be successful in NY. I am looking forward to him going to the Patriots and winning 12 games a year.

I think he's a dope. Seems like a good guy, I'm sure he's a tough SOB. But he's so far in over his head, I feel sorry for him.

If you look at the Raiders, they turned to Antonio Pierce in a similar fashion and that team responded to him very well early on.....however, now you look at that move and he's nothing special and soon to be back somewhere as a DC.

I want to throw this out there because it just came to me, not a troll. I'm not a big Woody Johnson fan but the guy is human. Put yourself in his shoes over the last few weeks. The guy was basically raked over the coals by anyone with a take when it was leaked that he had the temerity to ask why they couldn't bench Aaron Rodgers. You see what the Rodgers' done since. That was a bad question requiring condecension and mansplaining why? Woody must be this close to sacking the entire crew.

They couldn't bench Rodgers for nearly the same reason the Giants waited so long to bench, and later release, Daniel Jones: Money.

What complicated the Rodgers situation was that the offense was presumably set up to suit his every whim and when that wasn't working, they got desperate to seek even a glimpse of positive ROI, even if that meant selling another jersey or two. No one buys the jersey of the backup QB.

I don't know how much I believe that when Johnson talked to Rodgers the night before they fired Saleh, that they talk about Saleh. I do however believe that the Jets' season was over, for all practical purposes, once they fired Saleh.

A hall of fame quarterback (who you built your entire team around and sent two second round draft picks for) is returning from achilles surgery and you are going to give up on him after 5 games? I despise Rodgers…but at the time he was still well respected in the locker room. He would have lost the team if he did that. On hindsight…it wouldn’t have mattered, but at the time you still had a shot at saving the season.

This is why Johnson is the problem. They traded for Favre because of him. They traded for Tebow because of him. They traded for Rodgers because of him. They fired Saleh because of him.

All the wrong moves.

Take it from a Commanders fan...the hardest person to get rid of is the owner.

OK…I think I have a change of heart. I think they should keep Rodgers.

Here is the deal…he wants to play another season or two and the Jets are going to get killed by him on their salary cap next year anyway.I think they should keep him (if he really still wants to play) because they have no plan b for quarterback right now.

The Jets have too many good players to go in tear down mode.

I think they should do everything they can to get Vrabel. Experienced head coach with success. He would do wonders with that defense. Let Vrabel hire an experienced OC…someone who can deal with Rodgers and hopefully develop the next QB. The OC doesn’t need to be the next big thing…he just needs to be competent.

I wouldn’t draft a QB in the first round…I would go OL, DL or CB (since Reed is probably gone). I would draft a QB in the second round and hope you get lucky. Plus they still have Travis. Find a way to keep Adams so he gets a full year playing with Wilson.

I think competent respected leadership with a head coach who can teach discipline (and stop the stupid penalties) and a healthier (albeit older) Rodgers with a full season of Adams and WIlson is probably the best approach for next year. Meanwhile, they can develop Travis and the QB draft pick for 2026.

I don’t see how any other experienced QB can come in and do better than Rodgers (except for Darnold and that ain’t happening) and a rookie qb would be a waste on this team.

Yes..I hate Rodgers…and I think he is a fraud…but if he willing to give it another year AND they hire competent leadership like Vrabel, that is the best way for the this team to be respectable next year.

But…it’s the Jets.
