Cimini also mentioned the idea of bringing in Justin Fields to compete with Taylor. I like that idea…as long as they get the right HC/OC to work with Fields. He might be the late bloomer they can make work.

Lose Rodgers, hire Vrabel. It's not rocket science.

Ownership communication and QB could be an issue. If you hire Vrabel, you gotta get a GM that he is completely aligned with who could be a buffer between him and Woody. Then a QB like Fields and an OC who has an idea how to get the most out of Fields?

.-.
So to cap this season off, I am facing my best friend in the FFL finals against my best friend of 45 years.

I need Davante Adams and Devon Achane. Of course, neither will do anything. The Jets will snuff Achane with Tua out and Adams will be a ghost.

I don’t know….I think Rodgers is going to spend the whole game checking out of the run and tossing it to Adams. He wants his 500th to go to Adams. I think Rodgers wants to go out with a big game…either to draw interest for next year….or to go out on top.

But…everything I predict about the Jets this year has been wrong.

Oh well. Patriots steal Jets headcoach again. You have to assume Vrabel is Patriot’s bound.

Thank you Jets. Had the Jets lost yesterday, the Patriots would have faced the 3rd place schedule next year (Denver instead of Vegas, Cincinnati instead of Cleveland and Jax instead of Carolina). The last is a wash at best, but the first two are pretty big gaps.

Eh…I have learned by the time you play teams they aren’t necessarily the teams you thought they would be.

Sure, but in this case, Cincinnati is probably a lot better than they were this year and Denver is one of the hottest teams in the league.

State of the Jets - The day after the season ends.

GM - Personally? I don't care who they take. I don't know a good one from a bad one and, as long as Woody's fingers are in the batter, the GM influence will always be tempered (a la Jerry or Kraft).

Head Coach - I don't think Vrabel is in play anymore. I would take him if he is. I do not want Ron Rivera. He's a .500 coach that literally submarines every franchise he touches. Call me crazy. I want Rex back. I think we need someone crazy to change things and I think he's crazy. He has the legacy of his Dad there and his past 2 AFC championship games. Other than that, I can live with Aaron Glenn or Kliff Kingsbury (who I heard mentioned).

Off Coordinator - I just want someone CREATIVE. I watch other teams run plays, well timed offenses, fooling defenses...then I see us run checkdowns with false starts and delay of games in Week 16.

QB - Move on from Rodgers. He had a chance to be the Messiah and that chance is gone and never ever coming back. I don't see anyone worth drafting. I don't want to trade for injured and unknown JJ McCarthy. I could live with something like Justin Fields or even one year of Tyrod Taylor if we had a plan. Crazy idea? Trade for Dak Prescott. I heard this on a podcast last week. They may need a reset in Dallas and have seen Cooper Rush is serviceable.....can they move up for Shadeur Sanders and trade with NYJ?

G Wilson - Do whatever it takes to appease him, sell him on the future and get him happy. We likely lose Adams and Lazard and are really left with a bare cupboard....and scary bare if Wilson wants out too.

My point is that teams can look very different by the time you play them. For example, burrow could be injured for the game. It feels like every year the schedule toughness is much different than you anticipate.

Well the Rooney Rule is covered.

Anything is possible, but Kingsbury has the ability to be picky. He signed a fully guaranteed extension with Arizona, good through 2027, then got fired. He is already making HC money, with half the responsibility.

He also doesn't have to deal with the possibility of a meddling owner, and has one of the most exciting weapons in the league. WSH is $100M under the cap and will no doubt surround Daniels with more material.

Chicago is also interested in him possibly reuniting with Caleb Williams.

GM - I agree. hopefully Tannenbaum finds somebody who is good and can deal with Woody.

Head Coach - I agree on Vrabel…I think the Patriots fired Mayo just so they could get Vrabel. And…he will have a young QB to build around in NE. I don’t like RIvera either. I can live with Rex..ONLY if he has a solid plan on how to run the offense. On his last go round with the Jets, he didn’t pay enough attention to that side of the ball. But…I do think the defense would be elite under him. His comments today about wanting the job didnt make me feel better, He didn’t mention the offense at all. But I do agree with him that the team desperately needs leadership.

I would consider Art Smith as head coach. He is OC for the Steelers right now. If he thinks he can do something with Fields that would fix a big need.

QB - I like the idea of Fields. After last night…the Vikings aren’t trading McCarthy. Darnold looked like old Sam. I am not a Prescott fan. I dont like any of the draft QBs. Fields, Taylor, Travis and maybe a draft pick QB would be ok.

G WIlson - I agree…build around him..do everything to keep him. On the flip side, I say trade Breece. They have 2 other good RBs and Breece won’t be worth his next contract. Plus…I was not a fan of his drops this year.

Lastly on Rodgers…I go back an forth on this. Rodgers has the prima donna rep..but his teammates absolutely love him…unless they are full of crap. If he was truly all about Aaron, they wouldn’t be so effusive in their praise of him. Rex has made it clear if he was hired and ROdgers wanted to stay, things would change. If that actually happened and Rodgers agreed to play for Rex..it might work with Adams back and Rex running the team and the defense.

On the other hand….they should just move on.

Greenberg and Coen duo is growing on me. Especially if Coen has an idea on a QB out there that he make into the next Baker Mayfield.

@Deepster I am starting to get offended that you and I haven’t been interviewed yet! They seem to be interviewing EVERYBODY. Mike Locksley?

But…I do like the fact that the Patriots are looking seriously at Ben Johnson. Hopefully that means Vrabel is still in play.

LOL. I’ve been waiting by my phone all week! Honestly, could we do worse than Ulbrich?

It’s very surprising Vrabel is still in play. If he was destined for the pats, I feel like they’d have locked him in right after firing Mayo and it’s a week later with nothing. I also feel like the time passing since interviewing Rex makes that seem like the interview was a nicety to him.

.-.
The Patriots evidently have to play by different Rooney Rule provisions, or at least have to tread lighter, because some talkingheads took issue with how they fully complied with the rule everyone else plays by.

My guess is Vrabel still ends up in Foxborough. OTOH, I thought Washington wanted an offensive minded head coach and Johnson was going there last season, so what do I know?

Vrabel to New England, says Sheffter.

Rex Ryan just said he hopes he can kick his ass twice a year. Did he let something leak?

Vrabel makes total sense for the Pats. I'd be happy if I were a fan.

Glass half full - He's a legacy. He can help continue a bridge between past success and future development. Smart guy, X and O wise, good leader.

Glass half empty - Failed at Tennessee. 7-10, 6-11 his last 2 years. Went without a HC job for over a year maybe for a reason? Pats seem stuck on hiring old players instead of injecting new blood.

I think it’s a good hire by them..dangit. I am curious who he will hire as his OC.

So…the Jets move down their list. I keep hearing Aaron Glenn…who I love and he wants to be here. But…it would be nice to have an offensive minded coach who has a plan on what to do with the QB position.

OK…they interviewed Jeff Ulbrich…why? I get courtesy interviews…but this is beyond courtesy. I wouldn’t want him back as DC let alone HC. After Saleh left, that defense was not the same. Ulbrich also showed he is a players coach to a fault. He said Reddick was one of the more “selfless players”? Really? They guy who held out…showed up out of shape.

Anyway…Graziano of ESPN predicts Arthur Smith. I don’t mind that idea..if they feel Smith can work with Fields and hire a competent DC. Maybe Smith learned from his time in Atlanta how to lead.

I still like Liam Coen.
