Those were the days a young Deepster was proud to be a Jets fan. Can't wait. I have 2 Jets jerseys. A Mo Lewis, which I haven't worn in decades after he paved the way for Brady....and a Gastineau 99.Heads up/reminder ESPN "The New York Sack Exchange" 30 for 30 debuts tonight (12/13). Looking forward to enjoying some Jets content on TV for the first time in a long while.
6/5 or pk'm.So when you look at those options…can you see how I say it may make sense to re-up with Rodgers another year?
The Jets are unique…they have a pretty good roster…they need a good coach and a QB. I think if they hire the right coach (not an up and coming coordinator) and can get competent QB play…then can be a decent team. They are in a much better situation than the Giants. If Rodgers finishes out the season playing like he did last week, he is their best option. I really do think he has been really banged up all year until now.
The problem is…they never hire the right coach…and they always underachieve…lol,
I really don’t think he is a cancer in the locker room. If he plays well..they don’t care about anything else. He hasn’t played well until last week…which was also his healthiest start. I don’t know all the specifics of the cap impact…but I know he has no more guaranteed money. If they keep him..it will be a one year bridge.Rodgers is going into his 42 y.o. year next season, is only getting older, and nothing he's done over the last three suggests he's Steve DeBerg, let alone Tom Brady. He sustained a major leg injury at age 40, may have CTE, and his antics make him a cancer in the locker room. If they do keep him, I think they would have to guarantee 2026 and extend his contract to 2030 (47 y.o. season) in order to reduce the voided years cap hit.
I don't know. I just know that the Jets can't move on from the current morass without getting rid of Rodgers first. A big problem is how do you build a decent front office? The Pats can't do it. What about getting Darnold back? Maybe he can be your Jim Plunkett, chucking deep. Not arguing....but what would you do instead, taking into account who's actually available via draft or FA?
So you want to ditch Rodgers and really have no other suggestion who else to start next year?I don't know. I think his attitude is keeping him from playing as well as he has in the past. It seems like he thinks nothing is his fault.I really don’t think he is a cancer in the locker room. As I have said..I don’t like Rodgers and I would be ok if they moved on. Tyrod Taylor, Jarvis and a 2nd round pick may work with this team. The risk is Taylor getting injured and you don’t have an experienced backup.
I think his age, achilles injury, poor o line play and leg injuries have kept him from playing like he has in the past.I think his attitude is keeping him from playing as well as he has in the past. It seems like he thinks nothing is his fault.
He coach and GM both took a fall for him.
Yes. I'm saying Rodgers is sub-replacement level, even without the drama. Look at the Vikings. Why do they have a back-up playing well and the Jets can't even find one guy?So you want to ditch Rodgers and really have no other suggestion who else to start next year?
I still don’t think you’re answering the question.Yes. I'm saying Rodgers is sub-replacement level, even without the drama. Look at the Vikings. Why do they have a back-up playing well and the Jets can't even find one guy?
I did answer. I said I don't know. I do know you just wasted 2 seasons with this clown, why do you want three? The entire franchise needs to be taken down to the studs before a serious rebuild can happen and that won't happen until he's gone. I'm not trolling and yes, I hate Rodgers. But I think my distance from the team might allow me to pick up what you and other fans aren't.I still don’t think you’re answering the question.
Which QB potentially available, regardless of coach, gives the Jets the best chance next season?
Okay. Take it down to the studs with who at QB?I did answer. I said I don't know. I do know you just wasted 2 seasons with this clown, why do you want three? I'm not a personnel guy. I barely follow the game. But every year there's an undervalued vet that seems to step up. This year you have Darnold and Russell Wilson. Before that you had Geno Smith and Kirk Cousins among others. The Jets spend millions in data and salary on in their personnel department, they can't find the next guy? Look, if you guys want to take the easy way out and bring back a cancer, fine. But you're gonna suck again if you do. And the year after.Okay. Take it down to the studs with who at QB?
No one in the draft worth taking.
Replace Rodgers with who?
That’s the thing…the entire franchise doesn’t need to be taken down to the studs. They need a new GM and a head coach, and a competent QB. They have talent on this team. If they get strong leadership and a decent QB play, they could be a playoff team next year. The entire franchise needs to be taken down to the studs before a serious rebuild can happen and that won't happen until he's gone.
Bringing him back is not the easy way out. He's a 49m cap hit no matter what he does next year. So if you move on from him, you're starting with 49m in the hole.I'm not a personnel guy. 1) So you're not resigning some other expensive FA this year.
2) Again, there's no one in the Draft I can see being worthy of starting Week 1 next season.
3) You're living with Tyrod Taylor (who stinks worse) and still paying Rodgers or...
4) Some cut rate FA like Marcus Mariota, Jameis Winston....and still paying Rodgers.
I think you're going to see a new HC, new GM, new OC and DC....and stick Rodgers out there one more time and hope for the best.
I think you may be onto something regarding his health now and early on. I mean, he was their leading rusher with 45 yds yesterday. LOL. And I'll also say, that first TDthrow to Davante, the fade in the corner of the end zone? That was absolutely perfect, effortless....and I'm not sure we've had many QB's capable of making that throw like it's nothing.I agree with you that they have few options for QB next year. All of the Jets media seems to think Rodgers is gone, which I just don’t get. And if I’m Rodgers and I still want to play, why would I start over with another team in another city.
Watching Rodgers body language yesterday was night and day different than earlier in the season. He didn’t look like a guy who was done with playing. I really do think early in the season he was physically in much worse shape than he let on.
I think Rodgers will retire if they bring in a coach he doesn’t like. You guys don't think Job 1 for Rodgers will be to undermine the new coach if the Jets don't bring in a crony? I mean sunk cost.
I don't cut hair. I guess when you've been kicked in the nuts long enough, you all fall into the same mental state.Do either of you guys cut hair? I was at the barber yesterday, he's a big Jets fans. I was giving him my two cents, he couldn't disagree more. I swear everything he came back with I had read from Deep and Shaky here on the Yard. You guys stick together that's for sure!
The Jets may be in bigger trouble than just Aaron Rodgers or his cap hit.
i read that there was a rift in TN between Robinson and Vrabel…so..they might not be an option to be hired together.Hopefully they can get the GM and HC…i am hoping for Robinson and Vrabel (they did well together at Tennessee) and that would leave the QB position.
