I would say its almost a done deal that he will end up at UConn.

This would be a huge get in terms of showing that UConn isn't going anywhere. He is a "franchise" player.

All I can say is I am so glad KO is our coach. He is going to be a recruiting force over the next decade as he improves. Whether Purvis actually comes to UConn or not the fact that we are even in the mix is a great credit to our coach. We are very lucky to have him.

Completely agree. I love all the talk about RP coming to UConn. As you said, it lets everyone know that UConn basketball is still UConn basketball.

Looks like a done deal, extremely happy to have Rodney joining our team.

Part of an older RP article-

Capable of getting to the rim consistently, Purvis seems to go through stretches where he's too eager to settle for pull-up jump shots. He's a decent shooter at this point, but he needs to improve the consistency of his catch and shoot jumper, develop his decision-making, and learn to play at different speeds to become a more efficient offensive player.

Though Purvis is more of a ball-dominant scoring guard in the mold of Rodney Stuckey at the moment, he does show the ability to make plays for his teammates as well, particularly in drive and dish situations. It wouldn't be surprising to see Purvis spend significant time at the point guard position in the future, but he'll need to develop his court vision to maximize his talents as a passer.

On the defensive end, Purvis has the makings of a quality stopper. He handled the NBA guards he was asked to match up with during the late-night Boost Mobile Elite 24 scrimmage far better than many of his peers, showing how his physical maturity, lateral quickness, and aggressiveness can work to his advantage when he's dialed in.

One of the most highly regarded guards in this class, Purvis's decision to re-open his recruitment has him garnering attention from most of the top programs in the country. Though he has some things to work on, his physical attributes make him an intriguing long-term prospect.

I don't know if it's a done deal, but anytime you can add a McD's AA guard, you might as well go ahead and do it.

uh, the guy was making fun of Purvis for now having to play games in Greenville. As though Greensboro or Winston-Salem (where he'd play some games had he stayed) had any more to recommend it. It doesn't.

Can't claim to know a lot about it, but having been there a few times, I think the Winston-Salem area, for a place built on sucking oxygen out of people's lungs, isn't all that bad. Greater downtown Storrs does have unbeatable charm, though. He'll love it there.

The best point for UConn is that Coach Ollie would be the best person to fix everything that is not quite up to snuff in his game.

He sounds like the more scoring-focused point guard in our 2-ballhandler lineup (the Ben or Khalid to Samuel's Taliek or Ricky Moore). I like it.

I don't even like what you said but reading those names just made me happy. I kid. This sounds pretty good to me.

Purvis is the NINTH player to transfer from NC State since the 2009-10 season and the SIXTH since Gottfried got there in April 2011. That seems incredible.

.-.
What's the reason he has to sit? Just curious don't know the rules

somebody check their APR score

Funny you mention it, UConn would need to look into Purvis's academic standing as well. If I remember correctly, he had some issues getting eligible for NC State by the NCAA last year. I assume he's doing well enough, since he was eligible to play, but just something to think about & hopefully in the past.

The main reason why he was looked into was that he was his high schools first D1 athlete. They look into that all the time especially when his high school was relatively new.

I gather it's a "southern" inside joke - be happy it makes no sense to you. I am.

Edit - I know that is where ECU is: what I don't know, and am happy to not know, is what makes going there different from going anywhere else in NC.

I'm pretty sure the comment was meant to mean that if Purvis goes to UConn he will be playing at ECU (kind of an LOL type comment to show the bad teams he would be playing against by transferring to UConn vs staying in the ACC)

Comment had nothing to do with saying Winston Salem is a better location. Just was making fun of UConn's conference and teams they will be playing. Going from the best bball conference (ACC) to a mid major bball conference.

MWC is probably a better bball conference top to bottom than the AMC. Outside of UConn, Cinci, Temple, Memphis there is nothing appealing. AMC is probably 7th best bball conference

MWC is not a top to bottom better conference. Did you just see their colossal flameout? People need to look at the RPI of some of the former CUSA teams. Not as bad as people imagine. Just look for yourself.

Did you honestly say the best bball conference in reference to the ACC? What decade are you living in? This year they were ranked the 4th best in RPI, which may be generous. Last year they were 6th ranked. 2010-2011 5th ranked. From 2005 on they have had the top ranked RPI only once. They have been 3rd or lower a lot more often then they have been 1 or 2 (once each I believe).

RPI is the equivalent of using batting average for deciding who the best hitter is... its not a very good barometer when there are better stats out there that do a better job of analyzing.

RPI has MWC as #1 conference in basketball... Do you believe that ranking? Also the Big East has faltered in the tourney a bunch in past years... Does that discount their prowess as the best bball conference during those years?

(kenpom/BPI/RPI/Average)

MWC: New Mexico (25/9/2/12), UNLV (42/26/22/30), SDSU (36/27/29/31), CSU (30/28/23/27), Wyoming (123/82/79/95), Boise (59/44/44/49), Air Force (107/89/71/89), Fresno (111/120/129/120), Nevada (180/174/171/175)

Average of the averages: 70
Median: 49

AMC: Tulsa (183/158/139/160), Tulane (146/145/179/157), UCF (138/123/102/121), UConn (53/40/49/47), Cinci (40/35/50/42), Houston (174/171/197/181), ECU (126/136/105/122), Memphis (41/18/14/24), Temple (61/56/41/53), SMU (182/168/218/189), USF (143/135/151/143)

Average of the averages: 113
Median: 122

If you take out Memphis, UConn, Cinci, Temple the average is 153

Give me a break even trying to defend this basketball conference. Outside of the top 4 they are a joke.

So adding Pitt, Cuse, Lville, ND wont make them the #1 bball conference...

RPI is such a bad barometer. I really wish they would stop referencing that

OK

MWC falters EVERY year. Every single year. I had this discussion with ZLS before the tourney started, and I said that that conference is perennially overrated, and here we are again. The MWC sucks at basketball. CUSA is actually underrated. Teams like UCF and So. Mississippi do not get seen by many. Houston and SMU are bad--but given their recruiting the last year or so, one might expect them to rise. Houston recruited a stud last year.
