Significant returning players include M Vaughn (3.3 ppg), A Prohaska (1.5 ppg) and K Gilbert (3.6 ppg in injury-shortened season), That's 8.4 ppg from returning players who played some significant minutes. Two grad transfers will be counted on to play a lot -- M Sniezek and D Walker. Sniezek has always struggled to score, averaging ~ 4 ppg in 3 years at Stanford. D Walker was a legit double digit scorer for UNC (12-14 ppg) but played just a couple of games in '18-19 and missed all of the '17-18 season. Where will the points come from?
Notre Dame may have to replace almost all of its minutes and scoring, but if they finish behind Duke in the ACC standings, I'll paint my face blue on a workday.

Ha! The Irish may finish ahead of Duke but as far as preseason rankings go Debbie's makes sense.

I'm not sure casual Friday will cover you at work.

According to SB Tribune's Anthony Anderson, the WBB Beat Writer for the Irish, Notre Dame will open the 2019-20 season on the road, at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, November 5th at Fordham's Rose Hill Gymnasium.

Fairly easy ride across the Hudson, up the West Side to the Mosholu Parkway. Looking forward to attending the gym. Wonder if Digger Phelps will hop on the jet to return to his old stomping grounds, which featured Charles Yelverton and Kenny Charles?

Good chance for verbal commit Nat Marshall (lives in Brooklyn, goes to high school in Queens) to see the team and, depending on how things go with the 2020 recruiting, if 2021's Sonia Citron may come south from Westchester and Olivia Miles comes east from western NJ.

Open invitation to come dressed in UConn gear. :)

Hah! If memory serves correctly, Fordham still dresses in some combination of maroon and white, while ND and UConn both have blue and white among the color schemes. So, any show of support is appreciated! ;) :D

We Mid-Atlantic-based Irish fans don't get that many chances to see the Irish in person these days, so this will be fun.

According the SB Tribune's Anthony Anderson, she's not even cleared to practice yet. Yikes....

She's not cleared and Gilbert has a mystery secondary shoulder complaint.

Uggh. "Second verse, same as the first"*

That's not the kind of news one wants to read pre-season. Let's hope both round into feeling better/stroinger, etc. Otherwise, expect to see the red-haired one (Abby P.) back on the floor a lot.

* To quote those eminent Basketball Observers, Herman's Hermits, from "I'm Henry VIII."

True story - I once saw Herman's Hermit's play live. We saw them at a casino as a bachelor party activity for my brother. This was 10 years ago. He was 22. We were decades the youngest people at the casino for this concert.

The wedding was taking place near Lancaster, PA on Memorial Day. In turns out that there is not a lot to do in Lancaster -- a town essentially in Amish country -- on a Sunday night. Peter Noone & Co. were easily the best we could do.

Another Six Degrees of Separation Moment: Shindig (Herman's Hermits) to Lancaster to South Bend.
Wow! I'm sure Rose Hill will fit into this equation, too! ;)

BTW, how were they?

Herman's Hermits is going WAY back. I'm 55 and I have some HH 45's that were passed down to me from my older brothers.

Grissett is gonna play guard? I didn't see that one coming:

Junior Lele Grissett, who has averaged 3.8 points in 67 career games with Carolina, will switch positions from forward to guard, Staley said Thursday. At 6-foot-2, she’ll be the largest guard on the Gamecocks’ roster.

Here's her quote on Littleton:

Staley once again confirmed that USC will seek a waiver from the NCAA to grant transfer Destiny Littleton immediate eligibility, adding that “she’s got some history, she’s got a story behind that, so hopefully we can put a nice waiver package together to see if we can get her eligible to play this year.” Staley also called Littleton an “X-factor” and stressed that South Carolina “needs” her on the floor this season.

What does that even mean? She went to UT, considered transferring after playing sparingly her freshman year, was talked off the ledge by Aston, and then left after her sophomore year despite getting significant playing time. What's the waiver "story" there?

A question that can be asked with a great many of the cases where CFB, MBB, and WBB SA's have gotten their waivers approved by the NCAA. Given the confusing and seemingly arbitrary nature of the NCAA's rulings, Destiny would be a fool not to make a case for herself to play this season. Only Destiny and those helping her with the waiver know the totality of her story that she's presenting to the NCAA.

She’s never had stability from a parental standpoint. Her high school coach Marlon Wells practically raised her and her biological Her father passed away in January from cancer while she was at Texas. Not exactly sure if that’s going to play apart of her waiver but I’m pretty sure that’s an important thing for her. Unfortunately we have no idea what these student athletes go through in life at such young ages. Deja Church for example got a waiver because she had a “story”. Life is hard and a lot of these young adults aren’t usually ready for it.

Illinois sophomore Arieal Scott steps away from the program to "focus on health and wellness":

Scott had stayed home "for personal reasons" during the team's trip to Australia earlier this month:

I hope she comes through whatever she's dealing with. For the Illini it's another setback as they continue trying to claw their way up from the cellar of the Big Ten. As a freshman Scott was their 3rd-leading scorer at 8.8 ppg and was coach Fahey's first top 100 recruit.

Drama queen Dwight Howard signed with the Lakers (again) today. Says his life away from the court hit rock bottom this summer. Any of you Baylor fans know if he's still been hanging around Waco, still engaged to Te'a Cooper?

"It didn't have anything to do with basketball," Howard said Wednesday during an introductory conference call with reporters. "It was just stuff going [on] in my personal life. Mentally, physically and spiritually. It had nothing to do with me as a basketball player or anything like that. It was just personal things that I had to deal with which made me stronger."

Says he "tackled his personal strife this summer through reading and meditation exercises to center himself."
