I believe UConn could not get the CFP pay outs that the conference received unless they made the CFP. I would guess they would get the basketball NCAA credits.
It’s more likely UConn scraps football than gets offered a full revenue share in year 1 from the BIG12 or ACC, if that’s what you mean by “the deal”
The goal is obviously a P4 invite. But unless that happens, I think parking football ONLY in the PAC or AAC is much better than remaining independent. It’s going to get harder to schedule as an independent going forward. But I think more importantly, the achievable season goal for top teams in these conferences is getting a spot in the CFB playoff. To me, that’s a far bigger motivator for players, coaches, recruits & fans than the goal of becoming bowl eligible (basically a winning record). I don’t think Uconn has any path to the playoff with their independent schedule. Which is why I think FB programs like USF, Memphis, Tulane, JMU, Boise have the FB edge over us & get more national exposure.
I agree that a football only invite to a solid G5 would be a good option, but it also depends on the strings attached. If it requires substantial challenges to leave, such as a long notice period and/or a big termination fee, it may not be worth it if we still think a P4 invite is possible. We flexibility. No grant of rights, not big termination fees.
If UConn can’t even COMPETE in the ACC in the long term at the current level of investment how in the world are we supposed to make the CFP as a member of the AAC when we wouldn’t be getting the benefit of additional revenue?
I guess because G5 conference programs aren’t at the level of a P4 conference, and generally don’t have programs that invest at the P4 level. We may be around a top 10 G5 FB team now. So I don’t have any concerns about Uconn be able to compete with the top G5 conference schools.
Ah ok I think I finally understand. The ultimate goal for some is to sneak into the cfp one year by getting the G5 auto bid and then lose by 60 in the first round. What dreams are made of!
I did not realize making the CFP was not something to be proud of. By the way do you think it will be much better as the ACC champion? This years ACC champion will get smoked in the first round of the CFP.

There is not much difference between ACC winner and winner of G5 conferences. Either one will get smoked in the playoffs this year.
Maybe this year. I was arguing the same thing but was informed it was a fluke and we would not be competitive in the ACC year in/year out. Reread the last couple pages of this thread and see for yourself.
And NASCAR is thinking of racing in Saudi Arabia. Not sure if it the Cup Series or NASCAR European Series. I'd love to see what would happen if it was a Truck race and Toni Beringer (She's a truck driver for Tricon Garage) raced there.
A Hard Pass? We can still Schedule 3 or 4 ACC teams. However, I'd rather be in the PAC than an AAC football only.My first choice would be Big 12, then ACC then PAC then AAC. Independent in football will not be sustainable. If we got into the ACC, any game with Duke would be classics and I'd love to see Cal or Stanford at the Rent... Kansas vs UConn basketball or ASU/UConn basketball would be fun if we hit the Big12...
I guess Goodwin can start an Athletic Department and use the Rent as a Lax, Soccer, field hockey and Quidditch field. Maybe a Goodwin- Johns Hopkins LAX game will fill the stadium.
I'm not suggesting we should, just that a 600 million price tag to join a P4 is so ridiculous, it could pay for something as inconceivable as an on campus stadium. The Rent is great.
In 2024 we went 1-3 against the ACC, losing by 7 or less in the 3 losses, 2 on the road. This year to date we are 2-1, with the only loss in OT on the road. I know it’s not the top of the ACC but I would say we are competitive now and will only improve with a move to P4.
Did you read the story? You are oversimplifying. This is about moving BC from last place in spending to something on par with VT, UVA, Duke, Wake, etc.

I would add that somehow we need to put more money into the football program. Where that money is going to come from, I do not know.

I just disagree with you and I believe this kind of thinking has driven football spending at UConn for too long and it is why football has performed as it has over the years. I used to hear that if UConn was invited to the P5, then UConn would get more money and be able invest more in football. No, you invest to prove you belong and then you get invited. That is the TCU/UCF/Cincy/Houston/SMU/BYU model.
I actually think Mora and Fagnano have made our program so much more attractive which will help us get another good coach and QB.
