Key tweets, and it's all gone to Hell.

I don't trust the source but there has been Utah/B1G talk enough times to wonder if there is something. Utah even alluded to something when they joined the Big 12 which ticked off the Big 12.
Yeah, there is smoke there.

I don't see what makes them an attractive target.

82,

Utah does have an additional 79.5 million additional square miles (although large part of it is salt flats) so they have that going for them.

20 teams. Four pods of five teams.
Pod 1- Maryland, Rutgers, Penn St, UConn OSU
Pod 2- Indiana,Purdue, Michigan, MSU, Illinois
Pod 3- NW, Minn, Iowa, Wisconsin, Nebraska
Pod 4- Utah, USC, UCLA, Oregon, UW
We would win 1 game a year in Pod 1. In a great year maybe 2.

Utah, Colorado and Arizona are the states that keep the Big Ten contiguous. That is the critical piece of CR. Contiguity. I supposed you could leave Utah out and get the same result.

The next critical piece is the MST. Gotta have the critical 4 time zones covered.

$$$ > MST.

I find this mind boggling but the first thing I would do if I were the government is to let the school know that a holding company, presenting the athletic programs as assets can't claim tax exempt status.
Yep, although I feel like a methodology could be worked out to get around this. Perhaps having the school own the assets and having the LLC lease them? That would facilitate payments from the separate entity back into the university system, but could create a UBIT issue. I suppose you could just spin them off and accept the taxation, if the profit potential is high enough. It's an interesting thought exercise.
