Actually, I wasn’t responding to any specific post or person. This thread is littered with speculation, and I’ve come across conjecture more than once in recent months about USF, Tulane, and Memphis potentially joining the ACC if and when current members depart. I simply shared an opinion about Memphis that - if I’m correct - might end up benefiting UConn.

As for my allegiances: my wife and I are both Florida State alums, and we each worked there for about a decade. We also both grew up rooting for FSU, and that connection will always run deep - frustrations and all.

Over the years, I’ve built relationships with folks at various member institutions, so I don’t carry the same irrational resentment toward the ACC that many FSU fans seem to. I hope the conference survives - and I believe it will. That said, I also hope Florida State is eventually invited to join either the SEC or the Big Ten.

With all that duly noted, we’ve lived about ten minutes from UConn’s campus for the past eight years. Our two oldest kids (and a not-insignificant portion of our money) currently go to UConn, and it’s looking like our third (and more of our money) may follow in a couple of years.

Given our ties to the area and the university, we’ve attended countless sporting events with our kids and are supportive of UConn athletics and the school as a whole. I want UConn to thrive.

Why is it funny? An ACC that's losing members would be motivated to hold on to Louisville, and the Big 12 would likely be interested. That could give the Cards some leverage.

It’s hard to say how Louisville would feel about Memphis as a candidate, but the two programs go way back - Metro Conference, Conference USA - plenty of shared history there.

The ACC isn't losing members. There is no place for them to go where they can make more money. Thanks for the laughs.

To the contrary, I’m quite confident that North Carolina has options and will make a move. And I don’t think the Heels will be going alone.

The good news? We’ll know who was right within the next five years.

For the foreseeable future everyone knows that.

Nobody is taking a pay cut to move to the Big 12.

Now if around 2030 the Big 10 or SEC want to expand again then maybe there is something.

Agreed, but I feel as if that's the last lifeboat. If it doesn't happen then for us, it's not going to happen at all. And the thing is if we do get a lifeboat, it won't be dry and well provisioned. It will be leaky and struggling to stay afloat.

Correct. That’s why the Big 12 is supposedly ready to jump into private equity. Rumor is all-state. Feels like the race is on for a power 3 unless the P2 want full control themselves.

All State possibly wants to buy the naming rights for the conference. I wasn’t aware that they were the PE as well. All State likes UConn.

A post apocalyptic ACC is no better than the AAC. The only advantage is that we will not have to travel as far.


The other hope is that the Big East pulls their heads out of their butts and secures a future south of the wall.

Then we just have to keep killing it in basketball and forge a sustainable and competitive future as an Independent in football.

Pretty much, although I'd rather attend a game versus "has been university" then against "the college of Southwest Bomfok".

That’s what I’ve been referring to. Either the Big Ten or SEC would take North Carolina. I strongly believe the Heels will make that move - and that we’ll know about it within the next five years.

Based on reporting from the likes of Ross Dellinger and Brett McMurphy, Virginia seems like the safest bet to go with UNC.

Will any other ACC schools be invited to join the Power Two? I have no idea. But there are administrators at ACC universities - not fanboys or nonsense-spewing YouTube prognosticators - who believe it’s a distinct possibility.

And, yes, of course. No rational ACC school president would advocate moving to the Big 12 unless they felt it was the more economically advantageous and secure option. That scenario requires the ACC to first lose members to the Big Ten and/or SEC. I thought I had made that clear or at least obviously implied.

I’m not sure that a sustained competitive future in football exists in a post 2030 Timeline. The P2 Conferences will be bigger with potential cross over series taking place between them. It will be harder and harder to piece together a schedule with any of those schools.

A post apocalyptic ACC is still a better option than playing Florida Intl and Georgia State. Assuming that they are not in it in that timeframe.

My advice is keep the pressure on your administration to keep the conversation going with The Big 12 however possible.Thats the option the school needs to make happen.

buddy have I got news for you a post apocalyptic ACC might include FIU and Georgia State.

A G5 future is very attainable and we would be on the the upper end of it. Acceptance is a phase.

I notated as much on those two teams. Who knows what will be left of The ACC if the P2-1/2 get really aggressive. Big 12 is still the play. Got to beat The ACC Castoffs to the punch. Hopefully their commish gets his way sooner than later.

My kid is a junior there and lost his housing (waiting list) for next year. Damn school! I'm an alum from 1990.

I’m sorry your kid is among the (far too many) students caught up in next year’s housing crunch. My eldest is wrapping up her junior year too. She’s an RA, so she’s set. But one of her best friends (also a rising senior) is in the same boat as your student.

My son is a sophomore and had been planning to live off-campus with friends next year anyway. Feels like a very fortuitous choice given how things have unfolded!
