I might as well be in Nebraska when it comes to pizza. If I were still in CT/NY, I wouldn't be compelled to try a pizza from a grocery store. After reading this post I cannot believe that you grew up in Stamford.
There are good places I could drive to if I wanted to take 90 minutes or more round trip to get a pizza, but I don't.
That said, Whole Foods pizza is much, much better than Costco. Crust is firm but chewy, tasty on its own, just enough salt. Most Pittsburgh crusts resemble an Olive Garden breadstick. If one finds themselves in a pizza desert, it's worth a try (if they're using same recipe as here).
It's not my fault that standard Pittsburgh pizza sucks. Gotta make due with what's available. I'm waiting for the Brooklyn-based joint (Franks?) to open up in May/June and see if that'll solve my problem.
