Arike tech?

I think all the accolades went to her head. That is the difference at Uconn. Can you imagine a Uconn player acted like that..Pardon my English - Geno would kid her ASS....

True, Uconn has always had classy players. Geno definitely would not allow that trash to happen. ND played a little dirty today, But it is Notre Dame and that's what we have learned to expected from them . Especially after a loss. They had allot to say after beating us last season. Great win especially for the young players

She was not baited, she succumbed. What does it say that an opposing player pays attention to what the opposing coach is saying. Arike should only listen to her coach and focus on the game. She knows that now.

Well said.

Geno and the staff are just better coaches...much better.
They concentrate on all aspects of a player's skills, personality and responsibility.

It is unthinkable that a Geno coached team would have resorted to the myriad of antics displayed by the ND five.

MM is a great coach and has turned out superb, winning teams.
But for the total package, there is no comparison.

So I just watched the highlight package. Frankly, I don't really care about Arike's technical or flagrant fouls. They just helped UConn pad the lead. What does bother me is the foul she committed in the 4th qtr when Christyn blew by her for about the 3rd or 4th time in the game, and Arike threw her hip into Christyn when she was up in the air in a manner clearly intended to undercut her, with the potential to seriously injure her. To Christyn's credit, she made the layup and the foul shot, and added an "in your face" response to the dangerous foul by Arike as she yelled, "AND ONE" as she crashed to the floor.

Bizarre.... I mean I don't expect a home team advantage from them, but honestly..... how close is ESPN to UConn? Why would they want the #1 to win. If being about ratings and compelling, I'd think they'd always want the underdog to win to boost thought, conversation, etc....

How about : these are PROFESSIONALS, and for them to root for either team would be gross negligence. So by alleging they are for or against a team, the OP is impugning their professional integrity.

Bull, who does she think she is, she has no right either responding to a coach talking to the refs or acting that way to the refs. She got what she deserved and to be honest she is not the type of player I would want to play with if all she is concerned about is herself and not the team. BTW a lot of the GMs were not impressed with either her or Mabrey. Why, because it is not about them it is about the TEAM.

Wanna give a shout out to Shepard, she seemed embarrassed by that behavior in the line and almost seemed to be apologizing to Geno, I think she went to the wrong school ;)

Did Arike behave poorly in the last five minutes of the game? Definitely, but maybe it was the heat of the moment and she reacted poorly in a way she shouldn’t have. Let’s hope she grows from it and improves herself. She is still is a college kid, let’s not trash her too bad.
She is a senior , with years of experience. International experience and should be able to control her emotions.

Jackie Young and Arike couldn't be more polar opposite. Jackie Young keeps her emotions in check, and plays hard on defense and offense. Arike is a powder keg, with a 1 mm fuse, and, doesn't play a lick of defense. I am a huge Jackie Young fan, and it is too bad she has to play with a volcano that can blow at any moment.

The PA announcer should have been given a tech too. During pre-game intros he referred to UConn as the "University of Kentucky." That didn't go unnoticed.

Why would they do that? Why Kentucky?

"Not necessarily," Auriemma said when asked if he and the Irish player were exchanging words. "I was just making comments about stuff going on out on the floor. I was talking to the officials. And she gave me one of those and I asked, `What is that?' And the next thing I know it's a technical foul."
UConn vs. Notre Dame - Game Recap - December 2, 2018 - ESPN

Nice stat from the ND article

Since a 73-61 loss at home to defending national champ Baylor on Dec. 5, 2012, Notre Dame is 97-3 at Purcell Pavilion, with all three defeats coming to UConn, 76-58 on Dec. 6, 2014 and 72-61 on Dec. 7, 2016, in addition to today. *Dec 2, 2018')

Pretty much like clockwork.

What did Arike say to Geno that drew a technical foul? Any body know?

It’s being reported that she told Geno to “Shut the **ck up”. One of the refs heard what she said. I imagine it was the one he was talking to.

Every 2 years....I love it.

Looks like imma have to watch the replay of this game.... sounds like it was a spirited affair
Skip to the 4:25 point in 4th Quarter when Marina “I never foul anyone” Mabry reaches in on Meg, cameras cut to Muffet and Geno is seen talking to someone off camera (my guess is Arike). Meg goes to the line and then you can see the Ref in upper right give Arike the Tech. The. At the 3:27 mark of the 4thquarter. She trips Crystal at mid court and no call is made. Thenat the 1:43 mark Arike hooks and tries to slap CD and it’s called and she’s given a second technical. Then in the handshake like she says something to Geno and Jessica Shepard says something like ignore her to Geno.

.-.
During Lou's free throws they showed an overhead view with Geno talking to an official maybe 8 feet away. Arike proceeded to take 5-6 steps toward them and say something. She's just covering her A. Kara during this time said Geno was talking to the official "and Arike took some exception to it."

Apparently she wasn't in the greatest of moods that second half.

Props to the ND player in line after her doing the handshake, she seemed to be apologizing for Okie's behavior. That's a good teammate and sportsmanship (plus a smart thing to do as who wants to give Geno extra ammo should these two teams see each other again in March or April).
