Jackie Young and Arike couldn't be more polar opposite. Jackie Young keeps her emotions in check, and plays hard on defense and offense. Arike is a powder keg, with a 1 mm fuse, and, doesn't play a lick of defense. I am a huge Jackie Young fan, and it is too bad she has to play with a volcano that can blow at any moment.

The PA announcer should have been given a tech too. During pre-game intros he referred to UConn as the "University of Kentucky." That didn't go unnoticed.

Why would they do that? Why Kentucky?

"Not necessarily," Auriemma said when asked if he and the Irish player were exchanging words. "I was just making comments about stuff going on out on the floor. I was talking to the officials. And she gave me one of those and I asked, `What is that?' And the next thing I know it's a technical foul."

Nice stat from the ND article

Since a 73-61 loss at home to defending national champ Baylor on Dec. 5, 2012, Notre Dame is 97-3 at Purcell Pavilion, with all three defeats coming to UConn, 76-58 on Dec. 6, 2014 and 72-61 on Dec. 7, 2016, in addition to today. *Dec 2, 2018')

Pretty much like clockwork.

What did Arike say to Geno that drew a technical foul? Any body know?

It’s being reported that she told Geno to “Shut the **ck up”. One of the refs heard what she said. I imagine it was the one he was talking to.

Looks like imma have to watch the replay of this game.... sounds like it was a spirited affair
Skip to the 4:25 point in 4th Quarter when Marina “I never foul anyone” Mabry reaches in on Meg, cameras cut to Muffet and Geno is seen talking to someone off camera (my guess is Arike). Meg goes to the line and then you can see the Ref in upper right give Arike the Tech. The. At the 3:27 mark of the 4thquarter. She trips Crystal at mid court and no call is made. Thenat the 1:43 mark Arike hooks and tries to slap CD and it’s called and she’s given a second technical. Then in the handshake like she says something to Geno and Jessica Shepard says something like ignore her to Geno.

During Lou's free throws they showed an overhead view with Geno talking to an official maybe 8 feet away. Arike proceeded to take 5-6 steps toward them and say something. She's just covering her A. Kara during this time said Geno was talking to the official "and Arike took some exception to it."

Apparently she wasn't in the greatest of moods that second half.

Props to the ND player in line after her doing the handshake, she seemed to be apologizing for Okie's behavior. That's a good teammate and sportsmanship (plus a smart thing to do as who wants to give Geno extra ammo should these two teams see each other again in March or April).

Baiting, shmaiting, what we DID see, was what I could only have hoped would happen, Arike, Maybry, taking the game on singlehandedly, hoisting shots when they should have been passing to open teammates. Panic set in at South Bend; the walkover the Irish thought would happen did not come to pass. The Huskies came to play, and delivered on a hostile court. The elbows were flying, just like Muffet's teams always do, trying to throw the Huskies to the floor. Glad we didn't get hurt more than Lou's shot to the mouth.

Classic Notre Lame...sore losers.

Dude, I ain't perpetuating nothing. There's a quote from the parties in question. Do with it what you like.

I don't understand. Geno said he was talking to the ref? How is that an exchange with Arike? Kara Lawson said Geno was talking to the ref and Arike took exception. The overhead video shows Geno talking to a ref and Arike took 5 or 6 steps in their direction and said something that prompted an immediate T. At least she didn't try to trip him in the handshake line.

...agree, Playing like warriors is different than cheap-shotting other players. My respect for Muffet and A.O. Is very low. I’m sure it doesn’t matter to ND fans. I wish they would just have a respect for the game. This has been going on for quite some time. Reflection of leadership is what we just saw today... the cheap shot by Arike that the refs missed was very bad.

Due to work, I travel a bit and have caught UConn games all over the place with a combination of intelligent scheduling and luck. Even going to games in the Dome sitting with high school classmates of mine who went to Syracuse, ND fans are the worst.

While enjoying some good, old lake effect on a drive between Chicago and Grand Rapids for work I lucked-out stopping in South Bend to catch UConn men in the early '00's take on ND. I was surrounded by Green; but, kept my mouth shut and didn't even consider having a beer (not sure if ND sells beer on campus) because I knew the rest fo my drive after the game was going to be a nightmare. Nevertheless, I had some 70+ year old grandmother dropping f-bombs at me as I had a UConn hat on and after the game, her son (40's?) and grandsons (20's?) start to push me around and look for a fight. I just walked away.
