Seems Tyler Marsh has been keeping track of Angel Reese for a few years, based on this article.
(In this instance, he was drawing a correlation between her footwork and shot success.)

A solid developmental coach would strike me as essential for AR, Kamilla Cardoso and, yes, Chennedy Carter.

We shall see. I wish him well (previous post) but anything shy of 13 wins in year One, he should get the hook. The Sky GM(s) set the standard.

I don't think the GM hired Weatherspoon though. He was hired afterwards if memory serves correct. He'll likely get some grace with this hire since he made the decision.

Coach White returning back to her home state. Good move. Man she won a title at Purdue. If she messes around and wins a WNBA title at Indiana! OMG!!

Who was the coach when Indiana won their title?

Also interesting that two of Becky Hammon's assistant coaches the past few years will be head coaches in the W in 2025 -- Tyler Marsh (Chicago) and Natalie Nakase (Golden State).

Stephanie White had been released from her CT Sun contract 3-4 days before she signed with the Fever!
They said it was a mutual agreement!

Here's a story including requisite quotes:

Quick-hit impressions:
  • Pleasantly surprised that Greg Bibb hired someone to take over the entire show, basketball-wise.
  • First question: will Miller look to his old team -- the Connecticut Sun -- for a talent infusion? The Wings are burdened with contracts to both of their lumbering centers - Big T and Brown -- so doubtful Brionna Jones will come to Dallas.
However, what about Alyssa Thomas? If he cores Satou Sabally, he could pair them in the frontcourt for a year before the CBA redoes everything in 2025.
  • Or does Miller blow up everything and start from scratch now?
  • Lastly, who does he pick to coach the Wings?

Wings fans? Do you see this as a step forward or collapse backwards?
Backwards? Sure Miller's time in LA sucked but he had some success as a GM in Connecticut. Compared to what the previous GM in Dallas did, I don't see how they could do worse.

I guess I'm of what have you done for me lately. Kind of a low bar to say couldn't do worse than the previous GM

For "what have you done for me lately", Miller was the GM when Connecticut made the WNBA finals in 2019 and 2022. He must have made some good decisions in putting those squads together.

Dallas' track record speaks for itself (draft choices, coaching hires, etc.) over the past 5 years or so. The bar was going to be low regardless who they hired.

Whoa. Does this mean she's done with being an AC in Minnesota?

I've attached the release from Ohio State:
- Sure looks like Katie Smith is returning to OSU as a full-time assistant coach after multiple years as associate head coach at Minnesota.
Really interesting move given that one would've thought she'd be up/open to a few of the head coach jobs currently open in the WNBA.
Looks like the allure of coming "home" was important to her.
- On top of that, Jacy Sheldon will take on director of development for the Buckeyes and like KLS and a few others, I'm sure she'll continue with her WNBA career.

Was thinking about that as well considering how many teams are without a coach.

Well, Cheryl Reeve initially lost her top assistant, Katie Smith, to the college ranks in Ohio State.
Now, Reeve has lost the person who succeeded her as general manager, Clare Duweilus, who left to become the general manager of the 3x3 league run by, you know it, Napheesa Collier, who is Reeve's best player.

I'm still not sure what's going on with Katie Smith, but Reeve seems to have given her blessing to Duweilus moving onto help run the fledgling league. See "MSN" link below.

One statement that caught my attention with Tyler Marsh's introductory press conference. I like the fact he's open to players like Williams shooting 3s if they can do it.

Last time I remember a coach encouraging folks who'd tried two 3-pointers in 10 seasons was 2020 in New York. Walt Hopkins had everyone, including Kiah Stokes, launching threes. They went 2-20.

I'm not saying it can never work, but citing Williams really seems to be stretching it to me.

Hence why I said "if they can do it". I don't see the harm in working on expanding range, however there has to be some realistic expectations as to who should and who shouldn't take the shot.

@Bigboote

He's just following the Mike Budenholzer/Kenny Atkinson model who got Tito Horford (then, in Atlanta) and Brook Lopez (then, in Brooklyn) to start expanding their ranges, which worked for them. And for the Boston Celtics (Horford) and Milwaukee Bucks (Lopez) who benefitted from those expanded shooting ranges.

Sure, it won't work for all players, but it doesn't hurt to try. On the WNBA side, for every Kiah Stokes, there's a Megan Gustafson, who has gone from a George Mikan sweep-hook only, to a pretty good three-point shooter.

As for the Sky, if he could get Angel Reese to improve her footwork when she shoots (and maybe her release point), that would be a great start. As noted, Marsh did a great job working with Jackie Young. Why not Reese or Cardoso?

He worked wonders with Jackie Young and her shooting technique. She went from an average W player to one of the best two way guards in the world.

Agreed. Seeing that this is one of his main points of emphasis is great to see. Shooting accuracy wasn't great for Chicago as a whole.

Her Hoops Stats Add "WNBA Prospectology"
...which takes a look at various possible draftees in 2025, including Azzi Fudd, Rori Harmon, Raven Johnson, Gianna Kneepkens and Olivia Miles. The common aspect? These are "several top players where some uncertainty lies due to previous injuries that qualified them for a medical redshirt." This discusses the injury, how things are/no progressing and what could lie ahead.

WOW. He’s always done more with less at FGCU although their system style couldn’t be any more different than Atlanta’s. But I like the hire a lot.
