Father, son are going to spin things in the way that makes them look better to anyone other than those interested in UConn. People outside the program won't examine things as closely as the casual fans in this forum do. And even in this forum it's incredible how vastly different we observe things never mind how we make those observations into different conclusions. With so much spinning that goes on in this forum it's hard to believe people can't figure this out. These comments will have some negative impact but better to have these players get it out of their systems and move on than be on the team and poison the atmosphere of the team.

My guess is Vance and Steve just did not like KO pushing them to get better on defense. One thing KO wants is defense. In that he and JC are similar. If he insisted they push themselves and they felt they were (their perspective not in alignment with KO) then they would be upset and request a transfer. And what are the players and their dads going to say? I am (my kid) a lazy individual who gets upset with the demands of a coach! No way. So they are going to come up with a creative narrative that will save face. And they'll reinforce one another to make it more believable. Over time they may even convince themselves the lie is the truth if they haven't already done that.

Both players had potential and could have helped the team if they let the coaches bring it out of them. Maybe they'll succeed under a different style. Nothing wrong with that. I hold no ill feelings toward them. It's time to move on. Next year was going to be difficult before all these changes. It just got harder. But I'm still optimistic that in a few years we'll be looking back at this time as the lowest point and the start of a better future.

No surprise that arguably the two worst defenders on the team are the ones transferring.

I know they're supposedly going to do it, but if they don't fix the ceiling tiles in Gampel pretty goshdarn soon I'm done. It's embarrassing having to tell people you went to school there when every time they turn on a game from Gampel the players are getting bombarded by pieces of ceiling tiles from the roof.

Enzo Patoni is rolling over in his grave

Maybe a light will go on with them but I don't think defense was in either players DNA. I felt Vance was decent on defense, but who knows how much "convincing" the staff had to do to get him to accomplish this. And it may have been the start of those early tweets by his dad. I'm speculating of course and just proposing something that happens in life a lot. Maybe it's applicable in this situation. Maybe it's not. But to believe in any of the proposals people are presenting as absolute fact is just as silly and a lot of people really have a problem disassociating their opinions from facts. They come to a conclusion and it's set in stone. The truth is we'll never ever know the entire truth. And as far as impacts. Well won't we all know what happens in twenty.....whatever.

Honestly, this could all boil down to homesickness..and him not wanting to own up to it.

Doesn't matter though. Vance played well for us. I wish him the best. For chemistry purposes, addition by subtraction.

people are hitting him unreasonably hard on twitter, too. he's still a kid.
That's predictable but immature. Although I must say I did enjoy calling @BUConn10 an idiot earlier this evening and saying to @UCweCONN that he might want to get a surrogate dad when coaches interview his daughter. I have to admit there is pleasure in ragging people. But I also admit that I was being stupid. Happy!!!! But stupid!!

Can we just realize that the last thing this program needs is a player with selfish interests and a head case for a father and move on... This is Oriakhi 2.0 except Oriakhi was far better. And we ended up just fine without him. It doesn't matter how much talent you have on a team if not everyone on that team commits to the vision of the group rather than looking out for themselves. I think this is what the seniors struggled with all year with many of the underclassmen. The only players this team needs are those that buy into the vision of UConn first and the team first period. Only after that will you be successful.

For what it's worth Vance Jackson's dads most recent follow on twitter is some Kansas recruiting expert and he also recently followed Josh Jackson... maybe he thinks Vance should be playing more of a Josh Jackson role.

The dad also recently followed a USC assistant

Also it looks like he unfollowed every current UConn player besides Enoch and Juwan, unless those were the only two he followed all season but I'd find that hard to believe

Jesus, this kid is a train wreck. People are probably right in that it is addition by subtraction but Ollie recruited him and needs to be more careful. There are Top 70 kids with great attitudes. Find them.

“I had conversations with the coach, I was just wondering if there was a way we could utilize him more to help the team. His skill level, there’s a lot of stuff he can do, and we weren’t on the same page with it. I’m must replying what Vance wants to do. A lot of people think it’s me, me, Vance is telling me what he wants to do and I was just trying to [explain] it to the coach. We know what he’s capable of. You got a smaller person on him, you can post him up. You got a bigger person on him, you can take him off the dribble. We want to be able to utilize the skill level to help us win. That’s it.”

Lot's of I's and We's in there.

The bold was funny/odd. Vance isn't capable of talking to his coach? He had to go get his dad to do it for him? I get pop's trying to pretend show that he wasn't involved in the decision, but at least do a passable job of it. He's making Vance look even worse.

Great. That don't like the smell of that. Coincidence?

I hate trying reading the twitter tea leaves. Nothing to be gained from it.

This is the most accurate post I've seen. Ollie needs to start recruiting the "right" kind of kids. JC was a master at getting recruits who could be solid contributors for 3-4 years and more importantly had the right attitude.

I tried saying that in another thread - and got hammered - Oh this board! SMH

That's not true. He's following all of the guys. Nothing to see here.

That "kid" is almost 20. He doesn't need to be coddled.

We know he likes to quit when things don't go his way. Perhaps social media will be next...

Thank god. I'm going back to not reading the twitter tea leaves again. Dipped my toe in the water and got it bit clean off. Fool.

Players jumping ship does not sit well with me, especially a player of VJ's caliber. That being said, I still question KO's ability to develop talent. If he stayed, there's no guarantee he would get any better.

Those that have stayed , never improved a great deal (Brimah, Purvis). Add that to the long list of players who transfer out/NBA draft right away (T.Sam, Hamilton, Lubin, Cassell JR, VJ, Enoch). That's what I'm worried about. We can't get a team to stay together. JC used to develop talent and get guys to stay a few years. We have a new team every stinkin year now under KO

It's true, Boatright, Shabazz, Deandre Daniels never improved.

Hmmm... I'm sorry to see him go. He had a lot of potential to be a real nice player down the road. Seems pretty clear that there was some dissension in the locker room and some of it dealt with the collective selfishness of the players. In Vance's case, he thought he should be more than just a standstill 3 point shooter. And maybe he is right. He does have more skills than that but those skills are not tight enough to be a DHam type which is what I think they wanted.

As far as his Dad's comments, he's not wrong and we have been complaining about it all year. Our offense was essentially either Jalen (mostly) or Purvis taking high screens and trying to go one on one for either a jumper or penetration. This has been our offense for years and we constantly b&&&h about it; however, a parent/player says it and then we get pissed? I'm not a fan of the helicopter parent either, but we do have to be aware that the product we are putting out there is not overly attractive to a prospective recruit.
