Father, son are going to spin things in the way that makes them look better to anyone other than those interested in UConn. People outside the program won't examine things as closely as the casual fans in this forum do. And even in this forum it's incredible how vastly different we observe things never mind how we make those observations into different conclusions. With so much spinning that goes on in this forum it's hard to believe people can't figure this out. These comments will have some negative impact but better to have these players get it out of their systems and move on than be on the team and poison the atmosphere of the team.
My guess is Vance and Steve just did not like KO pushing them to get better on defense. One thing KO wants is defense. In that he and JC are similar. If he insisted they push themselves and they felt they were (their perspective not in alignment with KO) then they would be upset and request a transfer. And what are the players and their dads going to say? I am (my kid) a lazy individual who gets upset with the demands of a coach! No way. So they are going to come up with a creative narrative that will save face. And they'll reinforce one another to make it more believable. Over time they may even convince themselves the lie is the truth if they haven't already done that.
Both players had potential and could have helped the team if they let the coaches bring it out of them. Maybe they'll succeed under a different style. Nothing wrong with that. I hold no ill feelings toward them. It's time to move on. Next year was going to be difficult before all these changes. It just got harder. But I'm still optimistic that in a few years we'll be looking back at this time as the lowest point and the start of a better future.
