Here's a hot take, TW re-commits to Georgetown following the Ewing hire.
They already let Ewing make his pitch, and maintained their ask of Tremont's release. He's not going to Georgetown. One less school to worry about.

every kid wants to play he could sit on the bench on better teams are u serious?

Three guards are not enough on a college basketball team. Vital is the only SG of the three of them. He will get minutes. Expecting to get the minutes he got last year due to desperation is unreasonable. As it stands, Adams is likely gone to the NBA after this season, and the 2018 team would have two PGs, and Vital spelling both of them and playing SF at times. Some freshman would presumably come in, and earn minutes or not.

I liked his character and the way he played as a freshman. I will lose a lot of respect for him if be bails. Better players than him have sat on the bench and developed. He's set to play plenty for any sophomore. As much as Shabazz did probably.

Normally I'd agree with you, but you'd think after Ewing met with him and tried to convince him to stay there'd be at least one whisper of Georgetown. Everything seems to be UConn or Duke for him

Maybe it's just me, but I can't see Vital asking for his release. He committed here ~1 year ago and since that point (even if Waters committed) more playing time as opened up for him. Just wouldn't make sense to me

IU's Blackmon, Roberts, and Bryant all declared for the draft without agents. Should be an interesting wait

Only thing that could make sense to me is that since Vital's UNLV commitment was shaken up at the last minute, maybe he originally planned on only joining UConn as stopgap of some sort, since it's his home state and KO convinced him we needed a guard for that year. Is that possible? I have no idea.

Louisville was also an option for him. He's not going to transfer higher than that. I suppose if he wanted to drop down. I don't think he leaves if we bring in a guard. He's a good player, tough kid, and we have a ton of minutes. If we win a lot of these 'minutes' problems are much less of a big deal

I am pretty sure Vital won't go anywhere. He has earned the respect of the coaches. We need Waters because we need him, not because we need to replace Vital. Adams will leave and we'll be short on guards.

I'd view Vital as the guard most secure in status after Adams. Kid is going to be a player. Some people seem to underestimate just how good he was for a frosh.

That's true, I didn't think of that. That sounds pretty reasonable actually. Regardless he exceeded any of my expectations, and I assume any of the staff's expectations so I hope he stays here for all 4 years.

I have no idea where all of these Vital wanting his release rumors came from. The only thing I saw was a tweet from like Borges saying he was weighing his options.

And at the end of the day it seems like he has bad info because Vital literally said himself "why does everybody think I'm transferring"

One possible positive and look how the Boneyard changes. Figuring out how to keep players happy is right before your keyboard.

Just have a good season and when that happens most players don't focus on minutes but how they helped. And most likely the coaches are more upbeat making the all around experience better.

Winning cures most things.

a big dude who would be bent over hyperventilating if he tried to go up and down the way UConn likes to play. I seriously hope he is working on his conditioning like his life depends on it (or at least his basketball career). Like fleud, he is the signing that I do not get at all.

How do you not get it? Clearly KO wasn't blindsided by the Enoch/Durham thing. Needed to get bodies. Still need more.

I want Waters for a number of reasons but maybe most of all because he can step in on day one and shoot. I love every guard that's come through here to varying degrees, but MAL in my mind would have been a poor man's Adams/AG - athletic but may take a year or two to really get comfortable shooting from deep. Having Adams and AG be the uber athletic guard paired with Waters and Vital as the savvy shooting guard would make me as optimistic for next year as anyone on this board can be.

I like shooters too. We can talk all we want about defense but our big problem last year was we couldn't score - had very long droughts of no FGs.

Agreed. It got really bad at times.

and with both Purvis and Jackson gone, they need Vital's shooting more than ever. If he leaves now I can't fathom it being over potential PT issues.

Way over thinking it.

No I don't think he would be leaving anymore. 0% chance. He's a true blue UConn player. Merely thinking up a possibility that could explain that rumor, being an old plan of his, because if he were considering leaving it doesn't seem like it would be for the same reason the other 3 guys left.
