Actually it was your wife whispering, "You con. You con."
Nope. It sounded closer to cockburn. Perhaps there was insufficient foreplay.

Tremont Waters wants a big-name program.

UConn wants a big-game point guard.

They're both in the same state.

I have run these facts through a scientific process with beakers and test tubes and computers and can say that it makes too much sense for him to come here. It's science.

So long as you never observe his momentum, there is always a chance he is at UConn.

The rub is whether we're still considered a big-name program.

Yes, he is or else Waters would be ours right now/we'd still have MAL. Or maybe we'd win the AAC regular season for once.

How about national championships? Does that do anything for you?

Please name for me the big name programs in the fantasy world you live in that are objectively, arguably on par or better right now than the UConn brand, since that was the original point. That he wants a big name school. I'll give you a hint, if you get past 5, you're flirting with danger. Double digits and you are out of your mind.

Waters wants to kick the tires again on Duke and Kansas? Fine, no harm there, a reasonable person would. That's all this is about. You can save your Chicken Little shtick for another thread.

Nope, the statement was whether we're STILL considered a big name program. Not whether we used to be. At this moment, it's up in the air. Trying times. But please feel free to continue your convincing yourself from jumping off the ledge.

It's been 3 years since our last national championship. It's been 6 years since the one before that. We're still big name. Relax

Fwiw, Daniels was 2nd on the 2014 team in 3PA, had significantly less FTA than Shabazz or Boat, and averaged basically the same amount of RPG as Shabazz. He was pretty much a prototypical college stretch 4.

Roscoe was pretty much the same type of player in 2011, though not as good, and with a lesser role within the offense.

There main difference between those teams, and next year's team with Waters, is that the 2011 team had Lamb to provide length at the 3 guard/SF spot, and the 2014 had Giffey in that role. Next year's team doesn't really have anyone to fill that spot.
Larrier, who is a 3 by the way not a 4.

Please list the "bigger name" programs right now. As if historical context has no bearing on that evaluation.

Based on recent events is it crazy to think we have a chance at landing Wooten and Waters? Certainly would take some of the sting out of this off season.

Try looking on the reddit college basketball sub, national perception of the UConn program might surprise you.

I don't go there but it is obvious that UConn is not viewed as it once was. The league matters. A lot. Winning would cure that.

I can appreciate that UConn may not be Waters' first choice, but as the Stones say "you can't always get what ya want, but if you try sometimes well you might find...ya get what ya need!"

And he'd get to play with the guy who coached the best 5'9" player in the NBA (by a lot). And another guy who was a PG in the NBA for over a decade. And another guy who won an NCAA title as a PG. Add to that, it's his local team, that won two recent NCAA titles lead by dual PG rosters. There is a lot to sell UConn on here.

From what those more tied in are saying he likes the big stage, and I think UConn isn't what it was in that regard. Anyone who can't see Wichita State as a positive looking at it in that way is deluded. Our stage isn't as bright as it once was. We need more big games against ranked teams.

And we need to win those games more often than not.

I would love to see Waters become a Husky. Oh, to have a hopefully reliable shooter again, as well as someone with all-around talent. Given the state of affairs, it would be nice to see him come for a visit and spend time with the team and coach and try to make sure that all our guards are on board with the vision of how they fit together.

Well said. Obviously in the state of the program I think we all would be concerned about bringing in another solid player, while assuring the other 3 are all in and realize how successful that backcourt could be. It would be the staple of 2017-18 and with some pieces would be pretty exciting to watch.
