I think Stevens just may be the tip of the iceberg. I look for several other highly ranked recruits to decide to come to Storrs. I look for several to verbal by the end of the summer, possibly another BIG (6'4" +)

If Walker really wants to commit to UCONN she may do it sooner than she had planned because with the commitment from Stevens there is only one scholarship available. She may think someone else will commit before she does so she would have to make her choice soon. Maybe.

Seems like Louisville has 25 scholarships.

Come on down to Walz Ford and get yourself a certified pre-owned Taurus...

He sure is a salesman.

Louisville seems to have several transfers a year. They seem to over recruit positions and those who lose the position battle transfer.

Than you. That is good to know.

They may be available but as many of us have discussed, UConn doesn't like to carry more then 11-12 players................ much to my consternation!!!!!

Due to the recent comings and goings there, I guess there is one scholarship open....with all due respect to our Cardinal colleagues, it's hard to keep track. However, take a check at the door: there's a mess of young posts coming in the door there. Plus, there will only be so many shots to be had in two years, with Hines-Allen, Moore, Durr, etc. still slated to be there.

BTW, Ms. White was scheduled to be at Louisville for a visit last weekend...no news on how that went.

Here you go:

Louisville now out of 2016-17 scholarships, so cross them off for ex-Illini Chatrice White. Notre Dame is the other known suitor for White

We are also in different times which may require a relook of that number. Transfers are picking up for everyone including UCONN. UCONN =-3 transfers in the last 4 years ( Eglen, Johnson, Banks, Edwards, & Boykin) Out and (Butler & Stevens) in

I agree, better players are transferring so why shouldn't UConn be open if the right circumstance arises..............guess that works the other way too.......................look at Coach K at Duke.............if you told anybody that he would take one and done players ten years ago, they would say you are crazy..............times change for better or for worse................coaches sometimes need to change too

Charlie Ball - agree, but it is a fungible number - the absolute limit is 15, the preferred number is 12, but every year presents different possibilities, surprises, and disappointments and depends on the decisions being made by 17 year olds in recruiting and 18-22 year olds on teams across the country. So if the right players wanted to commit to Uconn even after they reach twelve players returning/committed, I suspect the coaching staff would make a 15 player team work. (You just aren't going to turn the next Stewart down if she wants to come even if you have 14 on scholarship already!)

Coco - yeah - it is a changing landscape in WCBB and that may well cause some adjustments. The number of star players transferring in the last few years is astonishing and unprecedented. And many of them are making that decision in the first semester of their freshman year, instead of after two years. The prospect of having a DD or Boykin or Edwards for 3 years is more appealing than having a Banks or Brown for a single year. With both greater attrition from teams and more and better and younger talent on the 'waver wire' I wouldn't be surprised if Uconn makes some adjustments to what we general consider their standard practice.
In thinking about that last sentence - as far as I can remember Stevens may be the first transfer accepted with less than three years of eligibility left. I can't remember if Sadiq (sp) was a junior college graduate in which case she might be the only other - Rita who came from JUCO still had three years.

If UConn does go with the current flow and become significantly more aggressive with transfers, it will be interesting how it will affect team cohesion--both the emotional connection the players have for one another and their actual team play. But my sense (hope?) is that Geno will remain highly selective in the use transfers, and will continue to build virtually all his team (at least 9 or 10 of any current roster) from freshman recruits. He is too old school and far, far too successful to do otherwise at this point....I hope....

Agree Bags - That big question 'why exactly do you want to leave _____ school' is one that is loaded with bad answers, and I don't see the coaches changing their standards. I think the change may be to have a slightly bigger roster 'ideal' size becoming 13 instead of 12 because of more frequent attrition which is already happening over the last 6 or so years to uconn's roster.

Just dreaming, ok, no facts presently, but what if B. Camara comes in from KY and Megan Walker signs on to go with Azura Stevens' transfer! Do you think Brenda Frese would have a fit! With her past comment that Geno gets all the best players! And her comments after "he who should not be named" said UCONN was ruining WCBB!
About the scholarships, UCONN can have 15 total, just had 11, 4 graduated giving them 7, signing 3 rookies, and Azura Stevens giving them 11 again. So if Camara can transfer in that's 12 for next year.

With the changing landscape, Geno will most likely adapt to it.

For many, Geno has been the leader in change with the way he approaches the X's and O's of the game. Stifling man-to-man defense, pressure defense, motion offense (or whatever you want to call it), and versatile players who can play multiple positions.

I think Geno will selectively look at potential transfers in the future.

When you really think about it - Stevens just replaces Boykin in terms of team size for the same years - Whatever the over all plan for recruiting from last summer was, when Boykin left, they had to make adjustments, and with Azura now on board they are right back to the plan they were working with before. She is a different player, but fills that '4' position that Boykin likely would have occupied.

I don't think it's just Brenda I think it all of WCBB and especially Brenda and Tara- who remarked if that if things don't change next year (=UCONN not win NC) she might be inclined to agree with Shaunessey. Guess what?
IMO with or without Walker UCONN wins NC in 2018, because the team will be too big, too fast, and too deep.

And, no offense to Boykin, but I think UCONN is in much better shape with Stevens if you consider trading one for the other. I'm intrigued about Camara. I hope Geno gives her a hard look and vice versa. And I continue to be encouraged by news we keep hearing about Walker.
