Transfer Thread Pt 2.....

I am still waiting to read where Griner is transferring to (I am guessing it's the Golden Domers because, well, they are Notre Dame) and whether or not she have to sit out a year. Or maybe she's a graduate transfer.

yes................I read that she wants to study Irish dancing just so she can play for ND one season.............

Huh? & Wow?

Doesnt Mississippi State have to ranked 6-5 post players coming in as freshman next year? Logjams??

They have 6'3 and 6'4 players coming in. 6'3 is small to be a post. If she has any pro aspirations, she'd want to be learning how to be a forward anyway.

Both Carter and White are considered post in the way that they play. Carter has been listed at various heights but consensus say she’s 6’4”. Vic says she has a great face up game but I don’t see it. Both she and White are back to the basket lane clogging posts. Taylor doesn’t have a face up either. I’m thinking in the 2019-20 season Miss St will be lob city to the posts.

Great get for Vic. Should help big time whent they losing McCowan after this year. As other posters have mentioned, they have a lot of big bodies on the roster but I think Taylor has a higher ceiling so she’ll take over when’s Teaira leaves.

Taylor Rooks is doing a graduate year at Michigan. According to the Michigan release, Rooks, a 6-foot guard, spent the last three seasons at Harvard after her freshman season at Stanford. As a senior this past winter, Rooks earned second-team All-Ivy honors after averaging 12.5 points and 7.3 rebounds in 29.5 minutes per game." She seems to have found her footing this year, with a number of double-doubles and 20-pt. outings. She had been a highly rated recruit out of NJ's Gill St. Bernard's a few years back and things didn't work out for her at Stanford.

Coach Kim Barnes Arrico -- who had recruited her initially -- could be looking at Rooks as part of a stop-gap solution between the graduation of Katelyn Flaherty and incoming Michelle Sidor in 2019. Interesting that all three are Jersey girls, but Arico spent a lot of time in NJ, even living there when she was coaching St. John's. Probably was familiar with all three before she left to take the coaching job in Ann Arbor.

Interestingly, Sidor's final two choices came down to Harvard and Michigan, ultimately choosing the latter.

A couple of articles on this transfer:

Does a good job of summarizing various options:

Mississippi State women's basketball adds Ole Miss transfer Promise Taylor

Inside "Why MSU?"

Promise Taylor, a member of the 2018 All-SEC Women's Basketball Freshman Team, is transferring from Ole Miss to Mississippi State

P.S. Interestingly, she cites the coaching change at Ole Miss as the major reason for her leaving the Rebels. The board has discussed one possible change to current transfer rules as being if a coach -- who was the primary reason for attending that school -- leaves the institution. This might've fit the bill if it had been passed.....
as it is, makes sense for MSU to have her wait until McCowan leaves.

Ha, I guess I walked into that one! (Will have to edit a bit.) The 247 article goes on about she bonded with the Ole Miss coach and was crushed when he moved on. And how she's bonded with seemingly everyone at MSU (and the state of Mississippi).

I am shocked that no one from the Tennessee Lady Vols has transferred. I am also shocked that DePaul had 4 transfers. My one question is-So is Vic becoming South Carolina "lite" with all the transfers?

My non-transfer comment to those Britany Griner naysayers is-given all the success that Stewie had in the college game, when does it transfer to the pro's? I mean she was supposed to be a transcendental player and we are now entering year 3 of her pro-WNBA career. My point is to use the same discerning eye on one of our own that we use on other non-UConn players.

To me, I like Stewie but I thought she would have had better numbers and results in the W so far but maybe that speaks to the true talent in the W and we all should be cutting Ms. Griner some slack as she has been elite in the W.

I dont know why you think someone would transfer from TN.

They return just 7 players. 2 of them are seniors. 1 (Harris) is walk-on quality and yet gets a scholarship at a p5 school. The other 4 are rising sophs who will get mega playing time, including 3 who will start and run the team effectively on and off court.

Why exactly would any of them be unhappy?

How about because they have a very nice but crappy coach who can't help them improve their game?

If that were important to them, they probably would not have gone there in the 1st place.
And even if they believed it now, it would still have to outweigh the upside of being the star on a team for the next 3 years.

Uhm... I don't know how to break this to you but Stewie's numbers PPG, RPG are significantly better than Griners' first two season in the WNBA. I'll be glad to give Griner some slack and you some time to check your facts!

So where is Stewie transferring to? I thought she played her 4 years and won her 4 NCs and her eligibility was up. Unless she's transferring to South Bend where we know anything that benefits the Irish can happen...

Not sure how good the source but Alyssa Alston from Ole Miss is transferring to St John’s

There was some minor drama/turmoil going on with Anastasia Hayes' father and his denigrating some of the other players. His Facebook comments and Twitter texts were not the best face to have put out there. Also, two of the freshman were not happy with their playing time/evolution of their games and they had open discussions on leaving. Maybe Holly went in and did some triage to soothe their feelings and reassure them for next year. Again, just surprised that given some of the talent they have, once they have seen how dysfunctional and the lack of player development that no one has left and continues to "drink the Kool-Aid".

Coco-my comment is not to denigrate Stewie at all, more of the fact that she was/is also supposed to be the "next icon" of basketball similar to what Britany Griner was to be. I did not say anything about numbers per se' more about elevating the team to conference finals/championship so you are getting a bit defensive (I also suspected some would not be thrilled with my observation). Both women have played very well is my point and criticism of Griner has been excessive considering her numbers. I am hopeful Stewie will lead her team to the finals and/or championship soon but I am still a bit underwhelmed by Stewie's first two years given all her talent/hype. I think this also points to how much even talent there is among the 12 teams for them to neutralize great players. Putting Stewie/Griner in the same sentence as EDD, Maya, DT, Bird, Parker, Fowles, Charles is still pretty good company.

Honestly, do you ever read what you write! Ever? If you want me to be less defensive trying be less offensive.

Cleveland State’s Ashanti Abshaw. Took a visit to South Carolina.

Have to wonder what is going on with this kid. One day she's transferring to WVA and the next she's remaining at SC...smh.

Seems pretty simple : she announced the transfer, and then Staley wooed her back.

I guess she figured out that she can beat out the other 20 guards on the team and start.

Kind of a late announcement but not that surprising, Taylor Kalmer is transferring from Oregon St. to San Diego St. Has one year of eligibility left. Not sure if she is scheduled to graduate after 3 years or if she will have to sit out a RS year at SDSU. She's a player that showed some flashes of potential but was never able to get regular extended minutes and the situation would not likely have changed in '18-'19 in Corvallis.
