Any concern about Hopkins or is it basically a done deal and that's why Geeter left?Recruited right over him. We will see how this works out I guess. Just to end this silliness, I was completely wrong in regards to one coach having it all figured out and the other not. The transfer portal has changed everything. Finally, Bryce Hopkins announcing today.
It appears to be a done deal and why he left although I certainly don’t know for sure. I’m disappointed because I really wanted to see what this kid could do. It’s not like we are loaded upfront. Even after Hopkins we have 2 open ships for bigs. Apparently involved with Jalen Reed. If he came too then Geeter makes more sense.Any concern about Hopkins or is it basically a done deal and that's why Geeter left?

Was hoping we'd reach out for one of the 11-13 scholarship spots, but seems like he has some legit optionsPrimo Spears just entered at Duquesne from Hartford
@FriarJ just like we have a couple that's going on the yard, what's your take on net benefit of transfers in vs players leaving (seniors or via transfer portal)? Can't even keep track of the amount of wing transfers Providence has taken this year.
The answer is 1Can't even keep track of the amount of wing transfers Providence has taken this year.
I’d be sick and tired of all the pool jump videos, too. Can't even keep track of the amount of wing transfers Providence has taken this year.
Providence has done a very nice job in the portal, but they lost Durham (13.6p), Watson (13.3p), Horchler (9.9p), Reeves (9.9) and Minaya (6.5). That's five of their top six minutes guys, three of which average 33.2 mpg+.@FriarJ just like we have a couple that's going on the yard, what's your take on net benefit of transfers in vs players leaving (seniors or via transfer portal)?
Can you list them out? With Corey transferring in and Providence winning the corner title, how good should UConn game expect your team to be next season?
Floyd, Hopkins, Carter, Locke...The answer is 1
UConn fans consider losing three starters to graduation/draft, and all guard depth to add a 9.6 ppg scorer, and the best player on a bad team from the conference you were DYING to get out of as a net gain. I don’t think that’s a stretch by any means.Providence has done a very nice job in the portal, but they lost Durham (13.6p), Watson (13.3p), Horchler (9.9p), Reeves (9.9) and Minaya (6.5). Based on that, I can't imagine any Providence fan calling this a net gain, especially for the 22-23 season. For 23-24 and beyond, it's certainly possible, especially conditional on the developments of Floyd, Carter, Castro, etc.
However, Cooley is an excellent coach and as many here have said, Providence tends to overperform when their team is under-heralded.
Hopkins is a forwardFloyd, Hopkins, Carter, Locke...
Yes...thought he was a 3. By wing I mean 2/3's...maybe he's more of a small ball 4 though. Don't really know his game.Hopkins is a forward
Kenya Hunter’s son Jaylin off to Ohio
congrats on landing a Kentucky transfer. the man ain't no fried chicken, that's for sure. heck, he might even be a colonel.Hopkins is a forward
We also have 1st team Big East, KAJ Finalist Adama Sanogo returning to pair with those transfers. What we were missing last year was a PG that could break a guy down off the dribble/score at all three levels. Newton gives us that and it will open up things for Adama, AJax and Hawk.UConn fans consider losing three starters to graduation/draft, and all guard depth to add a 9.6 ppg scorer, and the best player on a bad team from the conference you were DYING to get out of as a net gain. Cooley isn't close to an excellent coach. He's not even very good. If he was our coach this board would want the entire program burnt to the ground multiple times a day.Providence has done a very nice job in the portal, but they lost Durham (13.6p), Watson (13.3p), Horchler (9.9p), Reeves (9.9) and Minaya (6.5). That's because UConn fans have national championship asperations. PC doesn't know what it takes to win a title. They are satisfied with trips to the Sweet 16Cooley isn't close to an excellent coach. He's a unique player, positionless to some extent. PC has shown to have an outstanding strength and conditioning program and he needs to work a bit on his body to take his game to the next level. He is going to be a very good player for us.Yes...thought he was a 3. By wing I mean 2/3's...maybe he's more of a small ball 4 though. Don't really know his game.
I'm not close to an excellent poster. I'm not even very good. If I was this boards moderator the entire thing would be burnt to the ground multiple times a day.
Yet he managed to win the 2022 Big East Coach of the Year and Naismith National Coach of the Year awards.Cooley isn't close to an excellent coach. He's not even very good. If he was our coach this board would want the entire program burnt to the ground multiple times a day.
Yes, he now leads Jim Calhoun 1-0 in Naismith National Coach of the Year awards, which pretty much sums up how much winning those awards has to do with being a good coach.Yet he managed to win the 2022 Big East Coach of the Year and Naismith National Coach of the Year awards.
Cooley has been a solid coach for a long time & his trajectory continues to rise- think any program would be in a good spot with him at the helm- which as a whole- not sure how many coaches in the nation you can say that about.Cooley isn't close to an excellent coach. He's not even very good. If he was our coach this board would want the entire program burnt to the ground multiple times a day.
