Interestingly Synergy has him evaluated as a "Below Average" Offensive Player and an "Excellent" Defensive Player. Obviously he's just a freshman but interesting to see the specifics of his game.

It's because he is an animal defending on-ball. Averaged 2 steals a game as someone mentioned. But his shooting is abysmal.

IDK how I'd feel about recruiting him. I'm really, really, REALLY against bringing in non-shooters at this point if they expect to play substantial minutes.

Castle committed here while Diggins was on the roster so I can't imagine it would matter to him. No idea about Newton but hopefully they'd both start and play big minutes so doubt he'd care
would have to mean a small ball starting lineup but it would be unstoppable: Hunter / Newton / Hawk / Jax / Sanogo.

Would they prefer we added bad players?

Well we know that Hurley and Luke went to go see Castle when Newton started his visit here, and that Newton expects to be our starting point guard next season. Hunter would obviously expect a starting role, too; if both he and Newtown start and play big minutes, that would appear to limit the minutes available for Hawkins and Clingan. I am expecting that AJax will play 35+ minutes next season come hell or high water because Hurley is definitely making him the focal point of the team.

I don't care what they expect. The best players play. Imagine not playing Giffey in 2014 because we "promised" playing time to Omar Calhoun.

Hawkins would start and play 25+ minutes between the 2 and 3 position next year, pretty much the same as will happen with any other guard we bring in. Don't expect us to get Hunter so it's all a moot point, but we need to bring in more good talent not turn it away

Some really, really good players hitting the portal.

The huge lead up to "WITH THAT BEING SAID..." is always the chef's kiss.

Why Tennessee and not Syracuse?
I could be wrong, was just my first thought since I remember seeing something a week or so ago about him going to Tennessee before he even entered the portal

Ahhh okay. I have zero context and my brain naturally goes to Cuse when someone says Orange.

Isn't he going to have to get a waiver for immediate eligibility? Played his freshman year at Miami before transferring to Memphis.
Forgot about that, my guess is they'll find some way to get him eligible. Probably claim the Memphis penalties are coming or something

needs to go to Missouri State for consistency
Or Montana State.

In other news, impressive work from Kevin Kruger (Lou's won) at UNLV working the portal.

After a solid 18-14 rookie season (and a KP rating of 90), Kruger has added:
  • Today, Elijah Harkless from Oklahoma, 10 ppg
  • Today, Eli Parquet from Colorado, 6.9 ppg,
  • Last week, Jackie Johnson from Duquesne, 9.5 ppg
UNLV also adds a top-100 incoming freshman with KyeRon Lindsay.

The Mountain West has been one of my favorite conferences over the last two or three seasons and it looks poised to be a very good basketball conference again in 22-23.

Yeah it is a fun league, I wasn't a big Matt Bradley fan though, he's super limited athletically but put up numbers. Man D-Ham's bro at UNLV had some big games these past few years. Not the most efficient guy but pretty nice.
