The Official 2025 New York Mets thread

Looked like Soto got hosed on a couple of pitches.

I know human error is part of the game but I’m ready for the Automated Ball Strike system or at the very least being able to challenge.

Did Soto argue balls and strikes this much in the past? I didn't watch him enough to know and he really gets fired up at bad calls.

And it's important to note...every time I've seen him mad, he's been right.

Let’s give the Polar Bear a day off today. He is hitting <.100 since the All Star Game. 4 hits. Yowza.

Re: Roger’s. Quite a lot to give up for a rent a pitcher. Still, gotta do it. Love Kent Tekulve type pitchers.

Limping home after a good start to the west coast road trip. They sent their bats home after the Giants series. Guess doofus Mendoza decided to not heed my advice on Petey-Bear.

Is Rogers/Helsey/Diaz a W if we’re ahead after 6?
Definitely the best 7/8/9 combo in the league now. I'd even extend it to Soto/Garrett for the 6th inning too. Both are a bit shaky but it's hard to do much better than them for lower leverage spots.

I wouldn't mind adding another SP but don't expect it, CF needs to happen today though

Well to be fair, they scored enough in game 1 against the Pads to win. Montas and Brazoban melted down in the 5th, went from 5-1 Mets to 6-5 Pads in one inning - partly because Brazoban didn't cover 1st base.

The last 2 games were dreadful though. The big names gotta start pulling weight again. It's just the way it goes, but this season we were being carried by Lindor and Polar Bear in the first month or 2, then Soto got scorching hot but Polar Bear and Lindor faded some, Nimmo got hot - now Alonso is ice cold, Nimmo, Lindor and Soto are cool as well and the back half has finally come alive and started hitting some. Just can't get multiple going at once for any length of time. Not to mention the dreadful numbers with runners in score position.

I have come around to really wanting Robert, I dont know that I want him at the asking price being batted about. But he'd be a nice addition for sure. Mullins is a decent pivot if the asking price is too high on Robert Jr.

Feels like we need another starter. Holmes is fading fast and I doubt they are going to keep him as a traditional starter much longer. Montas is fine as #5, not so enticing to think about him starting a playoff game. Senga should be fine but he's had a long history of injury issues and also won't pitch on short rest which complicates a playoff series. Manaea looks good but needs to get stretched out some and Peterson is oddly kind of the most reliable guy right now.

A 1,2,3 of Senga, Manaea and Peterson is fine - but with Senga's need for extended time between starts and Manaea coming off injury - that's less that ideal as is IMO. And if Senga tweaks something man we will be in a bind.

Got your wish with Mullins. Don't love him as a player but he's a big upgrade over Taylor and hopefully he can get hot in the 2nd half like last year

Stearns with a master class at assembling the best bullpen in the league and upgrading CF without giving up Baty, Vientos or Mauricio.

Hearing Chicago wanted Tong AND Vientos for Roberts. LOL. That GM is high.

The bats finally woke up!

Today was a great example for what the vision is of this pen. Senga didn’t have it clearly and the pen locked it down. Going to Garrett in the 5th when he was our set up man not too long ago! The new additions have been impressive so far.

My 84 y/o aunt told me she wants to go to a Mets game. What's the best way to Citifield w/o driving?

This is going to be a weird homestretch. It's clear Stearns didn't want to give up a good prospect for a starting pitcher rental. So he beefed up the pen to supposedly be a superpen which, in my mind means....

1) They're bringing up one of their top prospects hoping to catch lightning in a bottle; or
2) They're going to live with Manaea, Senga, Peterson and whoever else in the rotation and use former 7th/8th inning guys like Stanek and Garrett in the 5th and 6th now hoping that's enough.

Based on Mendoza's comments post game I think Montas is done. The next time the Mets theoretically need a 5th starter is 8/23 against Atlanta. Coincidentally, the date the Mets can call up Nolan McLean or Brandon Sproat and not lose a year of control is 8/16.

I'd imagine we see one or both of them up by the end of August, and Paul Blackburn fills in the gaps until then whenever Montas would have normally thrown

McLean and Sproat on pitch counts and at or near end of season shut down? Have not seen that mentioned so hope not.
Outside Peterson, nobody pitches past inning 5. We are a Bullpen by Committee and maybe Stearns is a genius for his trade deadline acquisitions. Or a fool for believing the starters we had to start the season were adequate.
- But the fault really lies with the Punch and Judy bats. It’s 0-2 every at bat.

Brutal loss last night. Wasted a great comeback and lost one we should have won through mental and fundamental errors.

A team that is built for a deep playoff run does not do what they did last night.

Just a horrific 24 hours. Jesus H Christ this team better figure it out quick.

It's hard to believe how bad the offense is, I have no idea how Eric Chavez still has a job

Today was bad. Soto et al hootin’ and hollerin’ after a meaningless homer…..team is listless. Is Ray Knight or HoJo available to play 3B? Lindor has evaporated. Nimmo just flat out suxass. Maybe put McNeil in leadoff. IDK.

Do you put Lindor back at leadoff?

I’m not big on pointing fingers but hard to see how and why they keep Chavez. No one at all is hitting.

It almost doesn't matter when nobody is hitting. The one thing I've felt like they've been missing all year is one more big bat behind Alonso.

Lindor leadoff and then Soto and Alonso behind him is ideal but then I have no idea who hits 4th. Obviously nothing to do about it now but someone to hit 4 and then let Vientos, Nimmo, McNeil hit 5-7 would feel so much better
