Seems appropriate to start this one up the day after locking down Pete.

Projected Opening Day Lineup
SS Lindor
RF Soto
1B Alonso
3B Vientos
Dan Hurley Winker
LF Nimmo
CF Siri/Taylor/Marte
2B McNeil/Acuna
C Alvarez

Rotation: Manaea, Senga, Montas, Petersen, Holmes (w. Megill, Canning, Blackburn)

Pen: Diaz, Stanek, Minter, Butto, Garrett

Not a lot of holes anywhere. I feel like the lineup can get back to working pitchers into long counts and getting into the pen early. I’m curious on Montas to see if Hefner can pull a magic trick with him. I’d also love to see Acuna over McNeil all season.

Just grabbed tickets to The 7 Line Army section at Fenway on 5/19. I've never sat with them before and I'm fired up about it. Has anyone ever sat in their section and what's it like?

Where is everyone? Thoughts on Manaea? I never really counted on Montas. With all the money we spent, is our staff already in big trouble? I would treat Senga with kid gloves all spring.

Killing time before the Hoya game tonight. Better blow those effers away early.

That said, I’m waiting for my Mets spring training cap delivery. That is pretty sharp.
And to answer, yes we are in big trouble pitching wise, and yes, we cannot have nice things. Suddenly we Are going to need Megill, and may need Butto to start.
They were kidding themselves thinking they would not need a 6 man with softy Senga, and now with Montas and Manaea out into April? Yikes.

Well, the injuries they keep a coming…. Alvarez now out 6-8 weeks. Tough break, literally. That leaves Torrens to start with non roster invitees in camp to fight it out for back-up. They’ll need To go outside the org, could they get Nido or Narvaez back? I believe they’re under minor league contracts with other clubs.
Paging Mackey Sasser….LOL.

On one hand, it’s early. I’m not concerned long term or about the season and I feel like they’ll pick up a stop gap.

On the other hand? Part of me worries about Alvarez and injuries. Is he snakebit?

He seems to be. He was swinging the bat, not even hit. Then last year injures his hand sliding into second. He’s out until June. That’s a long time. Torrens is better defensively but an auto out. The bottom of the line up, with him and (Mendoza Line) Winker is very shaky.

Their lineup 1-6 is good enough to hopefully cover for him and I think Torrens can hold the fort until June. Having McNeil, Siri, Torrens 7-9 is a scary thought though, hopefully by the time Alvarez comes back the guys at AAA have replaced Siri and McNeil

But I think they need to expect injuries from Alvarez and have a good backup going forward.

Well, Huskies season over. With a pit in my stomach spring is here and Mets baseball to console us. Then you look up and see Megill starting game 2, & they’re holding back the fragile china doll Senga (ha) until the second series.

I am giving Mendoza and Hefner the benefit of the doubt with the pitching staff until they prove otherwise. Supposedly Megill has been working with Senga on a version of the ghost fork and looked good in the spring (18 Ks/4 BB in 17 IP, 1.16 WHiP).

I also wonder if they struck gold with Holmes and moving him into the rotation. And I'm thinking big season for Petersen. He was great at the end of last season.

Ahhh, the optimism of spring!

The pitching is one thing I'm not concerned about. Mendoza/Hefner and their new pitching lab has earned them the benefit of the doubt. Even guys like Max Kranick and Griffin Canning who looked like they should be out of the league last year have made huge improvements

Knee jerk reactions from Game 1.

I'm gonna fanboy Soto right out of the gates. Other than the last pitch, the guy's command of the strike zone is not human.

With Lindor and Soto in front of Alonso? Buy stock in Alonso now. I don't see how he can't possibly put up monster numbers.

I thought Holmes looked fine. A little wild but battled through most of it. His 3rd run was a horrible DP turn by Acuna so he really would have had a decent line on the day.

Manaea with a setback. I now expect him to not give much, if anything, this season.

Tough start so far. Astros are tough. All road games. Close game losses. Pitching has been okay. But don’t want to somehow dig a hole like last year.

An 8-4 start and a 5-1 homestand. Pitching has been great top to bottom and I think both Senga and Holmes will be better as the season goes on. Soto and Lindor in front of Pete is potentially a match for Betts-Freeman-Ohtani.

My one nitpick? Demote Baty. Release Baty. Please do something to get him off the roster and never to return. I cannot take him any more. He's not a major league player.

Luckily McNeil will be back soon and can take Baty's spot and move Acuna into the utility role off the bench. I suspect 2B is the spot they look to add a big bat at the deadline, not sure who's gonna be available there yet though

Is Hefner the hidden key to this team? Jesus. He's getting the best out of Megill and Peterson, helped reclimate Manaea, the bullpen is untouchable so far, including guys like Butto and Brazoban. Best pitching stats in the MLB across the board and really no big ticket long contracts like other teams are saddled with right now.

Was looking around at lunch and pulled up deGrom's stats.

The last 2 seasons, he started 9 games total, 6 in 2023, 3 in 2024. 2 wins total, both in 2023 with 0 in 2024. Total salary paid over that period? 70 million. He's on the hook with them for this season and 3 more after that at 40m a year.

He's made 3 starts so far this season.
4.0 IP, 3 H, 3 ER, 2 HR, 4 BB, 4K
5.2 IP, 8 H, 4 ER, 2 HR, 0 BB, 3 K
5.0 IP, 2 H, 0 ER, 2 BB, 6 K
Total so far = 14.2 IP, 13 H, 7 ER, 4 HR, 6 BB, 13 K, 4.30 ERA

I loved him more than any Mets pitcher ever, but wow did we dodge a bullet with that contract.

I actually watched his first game. He was dealing, a very enjoyable watch. But he's a "stuff" pitcher now.

It’s befitting our manager’s Mendoza as half this squad is hitting below the
“Mendoza Line.” Nice to see Vientos finally do something yesterday.
The pitching has carried us. Diaz is still an adventure, though.

LOL. YEP. He can drive off in the truck Soto gave him. Let him keep his City Connect NYC uniform. God I hate those.

As a lifelong fan of NY sports, I still don’t get the amount of “Soto is unhappy”, “Soto isn’t worth the money” vitriol. They’re in first. They’ve had exciting wins. CitiField is sold out and electric. No Mets fan believes any of that nonsense. How does this have so many legs? So stupid.

Jeff McNeil is back for 1 game, and has already cost the Mets 1 win. He cannot be a starting player for this team
