The Official 2025 New York Mets thread

Where were we last year at this time?
.500, Outside looking in. I get it.
We just gave up 30 to the woeful Bucs. Parker is smiling down from above. We’re in trouble, Deepster. Losing games in buckets and we may be .500 by August.
Pitching has imploded, Lindor is hitting like early 2024 and Alonso is back to ‘24 form.

You are everything that is wrong with Mets fans. I legitimately don't think I've ever met someone more pessimistic about what is clearly a very good team

Really? Then you have not met many Mets fans.
At least Deepster is Pollyannish and civil. You are d&ckish. This team, right now, is in trouble. As constituted, not a very good team. It’s a board in present time. Who is our ace and stopper? Who can hit after the 5 spot? Maybe bring back up your boy Alvy?

I'm civil with the others here, I just find your posts about the Mets annoying and dumb. They've sucked the past few weeks, sure. But it turns out the wins during the first 2 months count the same as wins in June, so they're still in good shape.

The offense 1-6 is fine, and will be even better when a real 3B and CF are added at the deadline. Senga and Manaea are a great 1/2, and the Mets rotation has carried them for 3 months. That should be the least of your concerns

losing 13 out of 16 is a concern

No doubt this streak is a concern. No doubt the lack of anything near an ace on the staff is a concern. And the "guts" of the team past 1-2-3 in the order looks awful right now (Taylor, Acuna, Vientos, etc).

1) Senga should be back soon. He was leading the NL in ERA most of the first half. You cross your fingers on Manaea. But just for argument's sake, let's say he's able to pitch like we hope in August/September.
2) I'm still confident in Garrett, Stanek and Diaz. Live or die with Brazoban and Butto in spots. Maybe make a trade for Aroldis Chapman.
3) I can't believe there's criticism on Lindor. Hasn't he earned the trust and confidence yet?
4) Lastly? I do believe in Mendy. I think we got our Terry Francona type who's going to be a really, really good one.

And if I am going to be a pollyanna? Hopefully the streak finally kills Frank the Tank with a massive coronary.

It's a pennant race. Even though they really don't have pennants anymore. If you're close on the 4th of July, you're good. Especially if you have a front office that knows what they are doing.

Not that I'd expect y'all to feel better about getting swept by the Pirates, but your pitching was thin and you did score four runs.

Bucs just swept the 3-game series vs Cards outscoring them 13-0. And the Cards were at full strength.

Aaron Judge seems unhappy on the Yankees. He seems like he wishes he was on the Mets with Soto.

I’m late to the Mets thread this year … just weighing in on the spiral we went through…

Happened as Senga went down. No Senga, no Manaea, no Canning, no Megill. I mean that’s starters 1, 2, 5 and 6. Suddenly the 3 is 1, 4 is 2 and 7,8,9 become 3,4, 5.

That’s rough stuff no matter who you are.

A brutal brutal stretch where the offense struggled to pick up the pitching. The starters giving no length meant the pen was taxed.

But all teams go through it. Wasn’t long ago the Phillies lost 9 out of 10. The Yankees are in a dreadful patch right now. It’s baseball and it’s a long season.

Soto has been on fire lately, Nimmo is starting to produce power more consistently, Marte has been playable with the bat. I’m confident Alonso will regain form, he’s still not horrid even though he’s slumping some. Lindor is streaky. Always has been. But he’s the captain of the team and the guy I’m least worried about.

This team needs Alvarez, Vientos, Baty and/or Mauricio to figure it out. IMO the lack of development from the young guys has started to show itself.

Maybe you will get your wish after all

I hate Filliponi. Perhaps the most noxious media personality Syracuse ever graduated.

The only redeeming thing about him is he actually is a Mets fan from the NYC metro. But his shows are 98% Stillers. And his baseball otakes and knowledge are garbage.

I would hate that trade. Pirates need power bats at the corners. We're teeming with SS/OF types with no pop, except for Konnor Griffin who will be the starting SS come late 26 or opening day 27. I don't know why Cherington is enamored with guys who have major injury history. First its Horwitz with a wrist injury that sapped his power, now a SS with a surgically repaired knee? Thanks, no thanks.

Completely agree on all points.

I feel better that we’ll get Senga and Manaea back this week, get a start or so then some rest at the all star break. We “should” come out of the gates ready for the second half.

I was a captive audience for a much of Thursday to afternoon baseball announcers. First time in a long time. I was playing the horse racing at a sportsbook while the Cubs then Mets were on. I thought both groups were excellent, it was an enjoyable background. I forgot what a good call was like. I can't take off the mute when Dave O'Brien is on.

What do you guys hope to see the Mets do at the deadline?

I think we need bullpen help for sure and I also wouldn’t mind them making a play for a legit CF. The pitching has been fine and Senga and Manaea are back now.

Senga
Manaea
Holmes
Peterson
Montas or whoever else …

That’s a pretty good rotation.

The top 4 in the line up are more than fine (Lindor, Soto, Pete and Nimmo). It’s the bottom half that’s failing us. I love Taylor as a late inning defensive sub and a 4th outfielder but his bat is weak. Baty, Mauricio, Vientos, Acuna and Alvarez have really been a major let down this year. We need Alvarez and one of those other guys to be real assets to the line up. Alvarez and Vientos have shown it in the past but man it’s been rough this year. Mauricio and Baty will show flashes but can’t put it together consistently.

Winker can’t stay healthy to even get a read on his abilities anymore. Feels like we need a jolt in the line up somewhere - 3rd, Dan Hurley, or CF.

CF is the only one that is an absolute must add for me. Duran or Buxton would be the dream but at this point anyone would be an upgrade over Taylor.

I'd like to add a SP like Mitch Keller or someone like that if the price is right. The rotation has been very good, but there's enough question marks with things like Senga and Manaea's health, Holmes innings, Montas being inconsistent that I'd like to see one more guy added.

Adding to the bullpen would be nice but the price is so high in season that I don't expect any notable adds. Pretty much every contender is always looking to add bullpen arms but I'd pull the trigger on a legit 8th inning option even if it's an overpay

I am over the moon at Manaea's performance yesterday.

Heading into the 2nd half? I wouldn't mind seeing Baty, Vientos or Maurico in a package for an impact OF/bat. I like Duran but the Sox have been so hot lately, they may not be sellers now. I'd also like to see a solid veteran RP...or.....a 3/4 starter with Holmes going to the pen. I do feel like the Holmes starter experience has been a good one though and I don't want to lose a potential good starter like we did wtih Lugo there.

On a separate note, is Jonah Tong the second coming of Tim Lincecum or what?! Jeez.

Obviously a lot can and will change between now and October 1 but the way I see the roster breaking out and holes that need to be addressed before then is this:

Roster Locks

C - Francisco Alvarez
1B - Pete Alonso
2B - Jeff McNeil
SS - Francisco Lindor
LF - Brandon Nimmo
RF - Juan Soto

BN - Luis Torrens
BN - Tyrone Taylor

Upgrade Areas

3B
CF
Dan Hurley
BN
BN

Obviously not all of these are trade guys. If you trade for a CF you can probably fill the other 4 with a combo of Vientos/Mauricio at 3B and Winker/Marte at Dan Hurley and that's your 5 guys. A legitimate Dan Hurley over Winker/Marte would be a nice luxury though

Roster Locks

SP - Kodai Senga
SP - Sean Manaea
SP - Clay Holmes
SP - David Peterson

RP - Edwin Diaz
RP - Huascar Brazoban
RP - Jose Butto
RP - Reed Garrett

Upgrade Areas

SP
SP

Gonna be some internal options here again to fill a few spots with Montas and Megill as SP options, plus Sproat/McLean/Tong/Tidwell. And hopefully 1 or 2 of Stanek, Kranick, Raley, Smith pitch well enough to be on a postseason roster as well.
