Not a good series in Texas and the White Sox even managed to win a game in Baltimore…still a half game back.
It’s not the lack of confidence rather how many opportunities Baltimore has given them since late June to grab a hold of this division and try n see if they can patchwork a run together in the playoffs once they did that. This is a perfect example of baseball…the adage is win series and all takes care of itself. Not true, a few sweeps instead of series wins were needed. There’s still 3 weeks to get it and imo the yanks need home field advantageThis team isn't winning jack in the playoffs, I hope they make me eat crow but I just have no confidence in this team at all. Judge and Soto have been slumping they are human.
ERAs, WHIP and K/9 since the All-Star break:If Boone ever uses Holmes again as a closer he is incompetent. He is unwatchable.
One thing you can say about Holmes. You know what you will get when he gets the ball. Very reliable
Last night NY found a way to avoid Holmes. Use Leiter and all is cured. Could Cashman have found two worse bullpen guys st the trade deadline?ERAs, WHIP and K/9 since the All-Star break:
Holmes: 4.50 ERA, 1.38 WHIP, 10.7 K/9
Kahnle: 1.02 ERA, 0.96 WHIP, 8.2 K/9
Cousins: 3.48 ERA, 1.02 WHIP, 11.8 K/9
With Effross back, Hill consistent and Gil probably moving down the pen soon (and even possibly Schmidt), the Yankees have options, but Holmes cannot continue as the closer.
Kahnle's got closer experience but honestly, with the way he's been pitching, Cousins might be the guy for now.
If not this season you’d think they’ll consider it in spring training.Any chance that Gil will return soon enough to try out as closer? He certainly has the stuff to make hitters miss.
Just imagine if the Yankees got Jack Flaherty at the deadline, I know Flaherty isn't an ace but it would've had a huge trickle down effect on the rotation and the pen.The best thing the Yankees have going for them is that the rest of MLB is also flawed. My biggest concern is that they are behaving as if they are programmed to lose and sadly, regardless of what matchups they end up with, it won't matter as they could get knocked off by anyone.
I would go into the playoffs with an unconventional pitching staff configuration: Game 1 Cole six innings, Cortez three innings. Game 2 Rodon six innings, Gil three innings. Game three Strohman six innings, Schmidt three innings. Back to Cole/Cortez, etc. Basically a three man rotation modified to use six pitchers. Then hope for the best.
Gil should be in the rotation, for this year though he should be in the pen.If not this season you’d think they’ll consider it in spring training.
One thing that irritated me was something I read shortly before the trade deadline. The Giants were shopping Snell and, as he can and almost definitely will opt out of the contract after the season ends, were asking for a B level prospect for him. A few "experts" stated that there was little chance that he wouldn't opt out at season's end and try free agency again.Just imagine if the Yankees got Jack Flaherty at the deadline, I know Flaherty isn't an ace but it would've had a huge trickle down effect on the rotation and the pen.
Your rotation with Flaherty
Cole
Rodon
Flaherty
Cortes
Stroman
Gil
Schmidt
Look how much stronger your pen would've been for the playoffs.
This has me baffled.Gil should be in the rotation, for this year though he should be in the pen.
You'd better be at least two games up for series vs. Pirates because you're seeing Skenes one of those games. And since it's his last start, unlikely to be an innings limit.Up 2 games in the division on Sept 13, take that every year. Need some help from the Tigers this weekend.
If the Yankees are up 2 games going into the Pirates series, get swept and lose the division…they don’t deserve to win it. Skenes is nice and great for baseball. Livvy’s not bad either. You'd better be at least two games up for series vs. Pirates because you're seeing Skenes one of those games. And since it's his last start, unlikely to be an innings limit.
I guess Jazz remarked to Boone how fun and crazy it was after the Judge GS. Good stuffNice come-from-behind win. Nice time for Judge to get his home run grove back. Let's hope this gets him going through the playoffs.
I was also thinking about how electric the Stadium looked and hoping being part of that atmosphere helps sway Soto into re-signing. I know that's naive, but a fan can hope.
His last start? I may need him one more time!!You'd better be at least two games up for series vs. Pirates because you're seeing Skenes one of those games. And since it's his last start, unlikely to be an innings limit.
That’s Boone he’s a genius. Cole wouldn’t walk anyone without being told what to do, such a BS thought even with Devers owning him. This isn’t Judge or Ohtani for kripes sake!To not have it is one thing but to intentionally walk Devers as the leadoff guy with no one on Cole got what he deserved.
Baseball will miss the Coliseum. Those type of character filled parks stadiums today don’t have that. The unique foul territory alone.I'm glad the Yankees are giving themselves a bit of breathing room as I'm going to the game this Sunday in Oakland against the A's and I don't have a great track record of bringing my team good luck. Joking aside, I'm a bit bummed that this will likely be my last chance to see the Yankees regularly as the A's are scheduled to leave Oakland at the end of the season. Their plan is to play the next couple of seasons at a minor league park in Sacramento until their new Las Vegas stadium can be built. Sacramento is around two hours away from me, so I suppose I could make the trek, but Sacramento gets so hot during the summer that I'm not sure if it will be worth the effort. I've been in California for around twenty years and have gone to at least one Yankee game in Oakland for most of those years. I guess all good things come to an end.
I was there for this gem during the magical '98 season. It was insane with Yankee fans running up and down the aisles high-fiving each other.Baseball will miss the Coliseum. Those type of character filled parks stadiums today don’t have that. The unique foul territory alone.
I agree, as a lifelong Yankee fan, there’s a lot of good baseball played there and with some really good teams.
