SC vs Notre Dame 11/26/17

ND down 10 and Wilson hasn't scored yet.

SC might be the #2 team in the nation.

USC's transfers pretty much dominating this game. Shepard invisible.

Entertaining game so far. Harris gets a steal from Thompson and then Wilson follows up on the miss for her first FG of the game just before the Q1 buzzer.

Notre Dame is really trying to bottle up Wilson, and the refs are allowing Shepard to be very physical with her. She is acting more as a facilitator right now, and already has 3 assists. Other SC players are aggressive but under control and contributing. All of the SC starters except Wilson have at least 2 FGs each already, and SC is 4-8 from 3.

SC leads 28-18.

Ogunbiwale leads ND with 7 at the half. Shepard has zip.

I couldn't understand why they weren't ranked there to begin with. Wilson alone makes them #2. And it's not like Baylor and Texas have earned the right to be ranked ahead based on some of their NCAA season ending losses.

Well they did lose a ton including Gray who was so important for them. They have more talent around Wilson though then I think most realize. And these transfers are really playing well.

Reminds me of when UConn lost everyone but Taurasi in 2002 but they returned the one that mattered. Wilson along with Durr of Louisville are the best players in the country not on the UConn roster. Baylor also lost several players.

SC leads by 7 at the Q2 media timeout.

I can't overstate how physical the officials are allowing ND to be with Wilson. In the Rutgers game she would've already shot about 10 free throws by now. Shepard and Nelson and the help defenders are bodying her a lot.

Notre Dame fighting back. Be interesting to see how this game went with Turner around.

The Irish take the lead. Shepard making her presence known now.

I wonder if MM told Thompson not to shot so much, she took a bunch of shots at Stanford, but seems to have changed her game at ND, I always thought some of the best ND teams had guards taking a most of shots.

Notre Dame has surged into a 3-point lead at halftime thanks to defensive lapses by SC. Notre Dame has scored a ton of uncontested layups on back cuts and slip screens, and SC just isn't matching up well right now. SC's offense has also gone stagnant and again, ND is simply getting away with pushing in the lane to neutralize Wilson.

The Irish erase the 10-pt deficit and lead 41-38 at the half. Telling you, ND will be stout with Turner next year.

Half....ND 41 - SC 38
Working the ball inside (ND) numerous layups made.

No big parade to the line for her in this game huh?
As I have pointed out elsewhere, the refs are letting Shepard of Notre Dame get away with lots of pushing and body contact on Wilson. It's really stunning.

Notre Dame, down by ten, up by three at half time. Interesting comeback against Gamecocks. We don't have TV, the game five miles away at Germain Arena. What does it bode for our UCONN team? True competition or a battle for second and third among non-equals? Wanna wade in?
