Ray Allen seeking protective order against UConn

Pay the man.

I can't say that enough. The "not a dime" crew don't get the PR messiness of this.

I agree give him zero dollars and tell KO, "Get to steppin', Fonzie!".

I can't repeat that enough.

Why was KO fired? Did the W-L record have anything to do with it? If so, pay the man.

If you don't think W-L was a factor, you've been duped.

I agree....$0

Now get to steppin', Fonzie!!!

Yeah that must be it!

What must be it? Have you heard Ray Allen since he left Boston in 2012? That man will never shut up about how Boston did him dirty. 7 years on and he's still boo-boo faced about it. This KO thing is another story I don't want to hear, but will have to because I need to show Ray Allen respect...or something.

What a dumb take. He was able to be fired for cause because he committed violations. UConn may have exercised that right because he was a crappy coach, but that isn't relevant to anything. The motivation doesn't matter unless it is an unlawful motivation in itself. I don't understand why people don't get this.

The only reason you'd continue to pay Ollie for not working is because his contract requires it. His contract says that if he was fired for cause, including committing NCAA violations, then you don't need to pay him. So there is no basis to pay him anything.

Let's say someone lied when selling you a house. So you have the right under the contract to void the sale and get your money back. Scenario 1: it has gone up 50% since the sale. You don't exercise that right. Scenario 2: it has gone down 20%. You do exercise that right.

Ray isn't going to have a fan base to remember him with anything but malice if this keeps up..maybe Miami.

Meh, Ray could take a dump on the center court logo at Gampel and he'll still be beloved by most. Deservedly so.

Oh good. Now he's got another story to regale people with, whether they want to hear it or not. This and the "Why I left Boston for Miami" story. Whether you want to hear them or not, Ray Allen will tell you.
I think Ray is a good guy but a strange guy. That Celtics team was filled with really strange guys.

In fairness to Ray, Garnett acts like a 15 year old girl.

the only thing that is important is the NCAA finished their review ,accepted Uconn self imposed sanctions and we have no NCAA Tourney probation. Kevin is in bad shape which is sad but his own doing.

UConn pleading guilty to NCAA violations in an attempt to get out of paying Ollie $10 million is not the decisive evidence most think it is. Judges aren't all idiots.

So you'd pay $11M to avoid PR messiness of discharging an employee? Things have to get awfully messy before they are worth more than $11M.

FWIW, once the NCAA gave Ollie a 3 year show cause penalty, this was over. In the end there would be far more PR messiness in paying him.
Pudge must be a union rep.

Thinks is true, but outside of UConn fans and teammates (i assume) there’s not a lot of love for Ray with past teammates or fans.

Garnett is a punk, but ray has on more than one occasion be called out as aloof and all about Ray. That is ok, but he’s not going to get the benefit off the doubt about character (edit - character isn't the right word here, but the proper word escapes me at the moment) issues.

Personally - he’s a great, great player, but one that never pulled me in like Caron, Rip, Taliek, Kemba, Emeka - kind of odd as I think about it now.

This is why you don’t bring in alumni as coaches - messy divorces with a lot of collateral damage. Worst thing JC ever did to the program - forcing the KO hire. Even JC isnt perfect.

I hope it ends as quickly as possible, as painlessly as possible for UConn and Ray.
Yep, this is a two way street. Bad on UConn, but bad on Ray as well. Being an all time great doesn't grant total immunity.

Please make this go away... don't use Ray Allen as a pawn in this whole deal.

As a lawyer, I find this funny.

The headline makes it sound like he took out a restraining order forcing UConn to stand 500 feet away from him.

I agree it's not a good look to embroil Ray in this, but this is just typical non-party motion practice. "Oppressive, unreasonable, burdensome and out of compliance with both the (Connecticut) Practice Book and Florida law" is boilerplate. I have literally never responded to discovery requests without calling multiple requests unreasonable and burdensome. Sometimes vexatious and harassing, when I'm feeling ornery.

The Courant article on this is less sensational.

Can’t agree with this when, you know, we won the championship with KO! Say what you will about players, luck etc, bottom line is he led us to #4 and can pretty much guarantee would not have happened without him. Everything was set up for long term success until life happened, hard to predict

No JC is not perfect and Ray is among many UCONN players who probably think that KO is not being paid for losing more than anything else. As much as they love Calhoun they could probably refer to phone calls and other things done in his era that just went by the boards and yes they resent that their teammate and brother is being treated this way. Not saying KO is not wrong in what he did though, it’s just their perspective.

Ray is our greatest alum ambassador. Let's try and not taint that relationship in the KO debacle.
Is he? I mean he’s most accomplished on the court. But as said above, most people are soured on him, rightly or otherwise, for leaving Boston for Miami. Between that and his personality/demeanor, I’ll take Kemba every time as an ambassador for my alma mater

What I can't stand is someone who unnecessarily inserts himself into the drama only to play the innocent bystander. That's some Real Housewives BS.

Bye Felicia.

For me Ray will always be beloved. The line runs Chris Smith to Scott Burrell to Donyell Marshall to Ray Allen. And so on. They all need to get past this, then later mend fences, regain the trust.

Hurley can do this once it’s all over.

Yep agree 100% and I also never encountered a discovery request not deserving of an objection for being too broad, too burdensome, etc. There are not too many of us who would voluntarily agree to have strangers go through our cell phone history for texts, emails, etc., our right to privacy is an important constitutionally created privilege not to be easily surrendered.
