Because Pack will be coming at him and be willing to take punishment to go for the knockout. He will take a lot of shots. Also Floyd has been fighting bigger guys ,who could take the counters better than Manny who actually is smaller than him.
Could Manny actually catch him ,it's possible but not likely.
If Pack decides to box him the fight will be the yawner of the year.
 
Floyd still hadn't peaked in the Oscar fight ; that came later. Offensive fighter in Manny and a defensive fighter in Floyd so hopefully this will b good and it should go 12 with a close decision for Floyd.

Thats the thing though causal boxing fans dont appreciate technically sound boxers and that is what Floyd is. Floyd is one of the greatest counter punchers of all time and he isnt a flashy boxer. He is very technically sound and just out boxes his opponent. Casual fans of boxing dont appreciate that kind of greatness they want action and hard hits and knockouts.

This fight is going to be about who instills their style. Manny is going to have ot be active and outwork Floyd to have a chance to win this fight. His only chance to win is by knocking out Floyd. Floyd is going to do what he always does and that is rely on his terrific defense and superb counter punching skills. He wins by just being the better boxer and getting the points.

This fight has 1 of 2 outcomes. Either Manny KO's Floyd or it goes 12 and Floyd gets the W. I dont see this fight ending any other way.

Floyd is a great great fighter but I will never consider him one of hte GOAT. He constantly avoided all the top fighters in their primes to protect his undefeated record. He only fought the big names when they were on the downside and posed no serious threat to Floyd.

GGG is the best pound for pound boxer today IMO. He is just starting to get big and hes a lot of fun to watch.

Agree on Golovkin . He is a fan favorite and just destroying everyone. Roach said tbe GGG also has the best leg movement out of anyone including the boxers fighting tonight.
 
Triple G is something else but he needs to step up his competition. He hasn't fought anybody and next fight with Willie Monroe is another joke.
 
GGG been trying and wants to fight all the top comp. They are the ones dodging him. He's not the one who needs to step up with the comp.

The top fighters need to stop being scared

Floyd mayyweather is basically the entire sport of boxing. gotta give it up to him for keeping it relevant, nobody does the numbers he does.
 
Saw Larry Merchant as I flipped through the channels last night. First, he was talking about the fight on PBS. That caught me off guard, no pun intended. Didn't expect to see boxing talk on the PBS news.

Anyway, he felt that despite all the scenarios that could play out, the fight ultimately would end with a controversial decision. He didn't say which way it would go but most people I talk to assume Floyd will get the benefit of a decision. However, a decision in Pac's favor would almost guarantee a rematch. That makes people money and Mayweather retiring doesn't line anyone's pockets.

So, my question is this: is boxing to a point where the fighters would be in on the scam or would only the judges, promoters etc. know the plan if in fact, a fix is in? I can certainly see how everyone involved would be very tempted to fix this. Mayweather is all about money, Pac needs money and the peripheral guys are all in it for the money.
 
So mayweather blocked rachel nichols and michelle beadle 's fight credentials for tonight. Not a fan at all of beadle, but this is just ridiculously petty.

The fight sucked. Idk how mayweather got more punches. Pac was the aggressor and landed more combos. Mayweather ran around the ring and held the whole time
 
I predicted 117-111 Floyd, so I was pretty dead-on. It was OK to watch but I'm glad I didn't pay for it.

The next guy to fight Mayweather should bring a bat in the ring - fairly clear that no one can get anywhere trying to hit him with their fists.

No need for a rematch there.
 
This was a blowout tonight, would have been worse 5 years ago. Mayweather is an ass, he is also a boxing genius.
 
Mayweather outclassed him, established the jab early and slipped most everything Manny threw at him. Looked a little interesting in a couple middle rounds when Manny stunned him but Mayweather controlled everything. Keeped Manny off balance, picked him apart with the jab and just is clearly the better fighter. Manny is a different guy than he was years ago but I'm sure it would have been the same result.

Even the people there covering the fight are portraying Mayweather as some sort of caricature of boredom. We have a pretty firm grasp on who he is as a fighter at this point and it was pretty obvious that this was how he was going to try to win the fight.

This fight reminded of the BJ Penn v. George St. Pierre fight. Looked good on paper, made for great debate, but once they stepped in to the ring, it was clear these were fighters in two different weight classes.

Pacquiao was so much smaller and it was obvious most of the fight. Two great fighters of different weight classes.

No need for a rematch.

I think we may have seen the death knell of boxing tonight. The most hyped fight of the decade, in a sport that has rapidly been losing market share to MMA, and it flopped. Boxing needed a homerun and got foul tip in to the catchers glove for the out.

I love watching Mayweather fight. I truly appreciate the way he executes the sweet science. Sort of like our girls, in the way that they make even the toughest opponents look ordinary. Some may call the blowouts boring, but I love seeing the the way our girls execute on the court and the way Mayweather boxes in the ring.

That's not his style to obliterate his opponents. De La Hoya was not washed up when he fought Floyd. Oscar looked totally drained from having to make weight against Pac. Look what he did to Pacquiao, then tell me he's overrated. I personally think he doesn't get enough credit for his boxing skills. I think you have to include Floyd in the conversation about greatest of all time.

Unfortunately , that seems to only be the opinion of about .05% of the population. I'm guessing those are diehard boxing fans with a deep enough understanding of the sport to appreciate what we saw tonight. Hard to imagine what it's going to take for a boxing match to capture the publics interest again in the near future. Clearly a rematch isn't going to do it. Can you think of one that would be of absolutely any interest to the casual fan?

Oscar wasnt washed up? Seriously? he had fought once in the previous 2 years,had drug and alchohol issues and btw retired two fights after the Floyd fight come on now! Floyd has boxing skills. What he did to pac? You mean Manny comes forward floyd runs away. Manny cuts off the ring lands solid shots floyd holds. Rinse repeat. Floyd landed 81 power punches to mannys 63. Not much of a difference. Btw manny landed the best shots of the fight. Floyd won manny lost its over as far as im concerned.

Best recap of the "fight" I've read so far, CA.

Until I got to the end. That was no foul tip. That was a strikeout looking, in the World Series with the bags juiced and two outs. Chance to shock the world and you sh#t the bed. For boxing to survive, the sport needs the heavyweight class to produce absolute beasts on a consistent basis. These little guys dancing around isn't going to cut it.

Then again, I'm part of the problem. I paid to watch and that's what they wanted.

Your mention of MMA is spot on. The majority of those fights are on free TV and never disappoint.

I can't remember the last boxing match that ended with neither fighter bleeding, cut or lumped up. That happened tonight and boxing died a bit inside.

Thats running with intermittent boxing from time to time. You want to see boxing? Go watch guys like Rigondeaux and Roman Gonzalez. Guys who dont need to run to avoid being hit.

The problem is the fight stunk and there is absolutely no other fight, or fighter, that anyone cares about on the horizon. It's not like the 80's when the winner of this fight had to decide whether to fight Leonard, , Hagler, Hearns or Breeland and we we're excited to hear the decison. What does Mayweather do next? You going to fork out $99 to watch the rematch? Can you name one fight in any weight class that the general public will pay $10 for? The fact that Manny and Mayweather were able to draw this out for 7 years and were able to convince tons of people to come along for the ride in hopes of seeing a good fight doesn't prove boxing is on stable footing. It says to me that even the one fight everyone wanted to see no longer has drawing power after that turkey. I guess it's possible there will be resurgence but it's clearly going to be quite some time.
