Not a "fighter." He's a boxer who spends 80% of his matches running from his opponent. There is one place on the planet where that gets you a win. The boxing ring. Kudos to him for mastering the rules of that venue. He figured out that he can win by not fighting. In boxing, that wins. By the rules. So, well done. He's gotten rich for it. But I have a half dozen guys who come into my bar regularly who would take his head off in a real "fight."
He's not a fighter. He's a boxer. Big difference in his case.

This is straight up insane.
I won't call him an idiot, but he seems to have no idea what a professional boxer can do with his fists to a barroom brawler.Idiots gonna idiot.

I would suggest a trip to casinos and sit as close as possible to the action. The prelim fights are usually the best. You get a well schooled prospect fighting a guy with like a 1-9, record. That 1-9, fighter is your typical street fighter who thinks they could do this. What usually happens is your 1-9, guy goes down in fashiin that resembles a guy being shot by a sniper. TV doesn't do any justice to how hard those punches are. When a punch rearranges your face like this
And if you think Floyd don't hit hard:

My apologies for not being clear enough but you do know there is more to footwork than just moving around the ring? Im talking angles, balance, distance etc. Thats what im referring to when im talking footwork and there is a big difference in mma footwork and boxing footwork and Floyd is light years beyond most fighters in the game today nevermind Mcgregor. It's honestly not though. Go back and watch Floyd's previous 3 or so fights, and then go watch pretty much any other Floyd fight. There's a huge difference in the amount that Floyd is actually moving around in the ring.

I decided I'm not going to pay $100 to watch it live...
What's the best way to follow live (updates, etc) for free? I guess I'm looking for the equivalent of something like round by round updates (comments and stats).
There will be tons of pirated streams but if you want round by round updates, badlefthook.com is your place. Sure the AP, and espn will have something as well.I decided I'm not going to pay $100 to watch it live...

Download periscope on your phone, it's a live video sharing app. It will 100% be on there and the quality will be solid. As for stats not sure.

Gotta respectfully disagree here.
I'd agree that they have to be in phenomenal cardiovascular shape, but that doesn't make them great athletes. It just makes them in great shape.
We'd have to define "athlete" to work this question. I'd take most NBA players and most nfl skills players way ahead of any boxer or MMA guy. Not for cardio, but rather for "athlete."g
Also, for flat out gotta-have-cardio, I'd go with men's tennis first. Oldest tennis player to win Wimbledon prior to the Alien Roger Federer doing it this year at age 35 was a guy who was 31. There are only a handful of guys who have won a tennis major after age 29. It's crazy when you think about it. It's the cardio.
How many barroom fights have the guys in this thread seen, up close and personal? I've seen about 100. Maybe 200. Part of owning a bar in a rough town, unfortunately.I won't call him an idiot, but he seems to have no idea what a professional boxer can do with his fists to a barroom brawler.
You really have no idea how hard boxers punch do you. I've stood next, right next two Zab Judah, at a party in New London when Zab was an undefeated 135lb champ, maybe 140, it was a long time ago. At the time I was pretty strong/fit 215lbs. The man's back was wider than me. That's from thoselats throwing punches ALL THE TIME. Ive also seen Roy Jones up close at the casino, another dude whose lats resembled an alien of some sort. Your barroom brawler would stand no chance. I haven't seen hundreds but I've seen bar fights and broke some up when a friend owned bar. Not exactly world class skills in that type of combat. How many barroom fights have the guys in this thread seen, up close and personal? I've seen about 100. Maybe 200. Most barroom fights don't involve stand up fist throwing. One guy gets in the face of the other. The other talks smack. The one guy talks smack. Then, boom, they're on top of each other, on the floor. Number of bar fights that I've seen where guys are standing after 10 seconds - none.
I've got guys who come in who are 6/2, 220 and who don't feel any pain. In a crowded bar on a Friday night a tiny guy like Floyd wouldn't be able to run away. He sure as hell wouldn't be able to dance around and avoid some of the beasts who I see every weekend from grabbing him, which is when he's finished. Lot harder to punch a guy when he's got a handful of shirt in one hand, throwing punches with the other, and trying to chew your face off with the seven teeth he has left and he outweighs you by 70 pounds.
You guys are picturing a bar fight where the guys are standing up and moving and so on. That's not how it works, unless you're watching a Patrick Swazy movie.
Floyd is small and defensive and would get handled - easily. There's a reason there are weight classes.
And I'm not an "MMA fan," in the sense that I watch it religiously or I don't like boxing. Loved boxing for a lot of years. Grew up on Hagler/Hearns, tail end of Ali, early Tyson, saw Boom Boom Mancini. I lost interest in boxing after Tyson - the russians just aren't compelling, and with the Internet there's just more to do. Enjoy MMA from time to time, but I'm by no means a junkie or a fan boy.
That said, equivalent MMA vs. Boxers in a bar fight and the MMA guys have a huge advantage.
99% of the guys I separate during a fight are on the ground.
Completely agree. Can't be a good boxer without great hand-eye coordination and footwork. Being in great shape only goes so far.
I just told you - bar fights are not boxing. It's much more grabbing/wrestling/tackling. Punching is involved, but more of an on-the-ground punching. Nobody stands and dances and spars. You really have no idea how hard boxers punch do you. . . . The man's back was wider than me. That's from those lats throwing punches

With no way of calculating damage. Points are awarded for contact. Its amazing that Mayweather "spends 80% of his matches running from his opponent" but somehow finds the time to land significantly more punches throughout the fight...
