The ACC has a similar problem to the big east in that its media partner has a vested interest in weakening it. Essentially they can lowball offer and say take it or leave it.

The ACC has another more critical problem, however, in that that members see they have dramatically more lucrative opportunities outside the conference and are publicly talking about their desire to leave. To be honest, I will be surprised if their current membership stays intact all the way through 2036. From 2030 on, they're vulnerable and will become more vulnerable with each passing year.

So what would the big 12 offer us the "Notre Dame deal"? 20% of their $31 million value for all sports would be 6 1/2 million dollars. That's not enough. In fact it's barely break even after you consider the additional expenses, of what we're currently making in the Big East. We could actually make more money by returning to the American for all sports.

Now if they want to offer us 20 million for our basketball only? God bless, of course we would take that, but that makes zero sense from their perspective. On the other hand if they offered us 20 million for a full membership with a path to a full share, and we'd have to consider it.

Again, the devil's in the details.

Seems like the Big12 and ACC are realizing or soon will realize that the old, straight forward paradigms are or should be soon a thing of the past. True, though I am inclined to believe that he absolutely did want us, and maybe still does. I just think he could get buy-in from his board while the Pac 12 was having a going out of business sale.

If the ACC was smart they would offer us a full-time membership at a 50% share scaling up to 100% over the next 10 years. We'd likely take it and then they could use the excess money to pay their existing members, and they have another warm body for when the great exodus happens in 2036. The only reason why something like that likely won't happen is because ESPN isn't going to back their play, because ESPN doesn't want the ACC to be any more viable in 2036.

Still, at $15 million a year, I have to think it's a pretty inexpensive price to get all of our content back. Men's basketball, women's basketball, football, baseball. They would get a big bump up and ESPN plus subscribers.

On our side we lose the stigma of being G5 and get put in a league with some meaningful rivalries. It seems like a win-win.

James Madison and Appalachian State provide way more value than UConn. Huge fanbases and always a threat to win national championships.

Sounds like when it comes to the ACC and UConn, it's a hard no, to the point of not even being worthy of mention as a possibility. There's no way we're objectively worse candidates than Appalachian State or JMU, so it's obviously personal. It's been made clear to those covering realignment news that we are NOT welcome in the ACC, no matter what. Enough of them hate us that we're personae non grata.

I think their deal was basically agreed to earlier this year when the Big10 had vetted and cleared those schools for acceptance. This week was simply the last t crossings and i dottings.

No it's not. Any idiotic writer can specular whatever they want. It has absolutely no bearing on what a conference may or may not be thinking.

To speculate that the ACC would consider James Madison and App State is so absurd, that writer loses any credibility.

It will not happen and it does not speak to anything regarding how the ACC feels about UConn as a candidate for expansion.
