I actually think that's more likely. The state schools in the west are better TV attractions than some of the Big XII schools particularly the new ones added excepting Houston. They can also then shed some of the deadweight and build a smaller conference to share the smaller pie fewer ways.

Wash St. + Ore St. + Cal + Arizona + Utah + Colorado + ASU + Ok. St + Texas Tech + Kansas + Houston + Iowa St is probably the greatest combo for TV dollars. The religious schools in the Big XII (BYU, TCU will be left behind along with the Eastern schools (UCF, Cincy, WVU). I think Cincy & WVU find a home in the ACC as the Big Ten and SEC start to pick off the UNC, UVA, Clemson & FSUs.
I really have difficulty believing the B12 will fall apart so easily. Unless their contracts are incredibly weak it would seem like the PAC will end up pulling schools from lesser conferences to survive.

I doubt he has sources but the ACC going on the offensive is smarter than just being passive like the Big East was.

Fwiw those aren’t the only 2 schools going B1G from out west. Just the first 2 dominoes to fall

MH ver3@MH ver3 · 18h
Oregon and Washington most likely next 2 to go B1G. Will B1G stop at 18 though?

MH ver3@MH ver3 · 18h
“But UCLA can’t go without Cal”
Wrong.

John Riley@jriley322 · 18h
So, does the ACC still look like a possibility for WVU or, will the SEC start poaching the ACC?

MH ver3@MH ver3 ·18h
ACC has been begging ND to join the past 48 hours. WVU has been told that us KU and OKST are on standby. ACC fearing the loss of FSU and Clemson

B12 in a prime position to reap the rewards of the weakened PAC. Arizona schools have been talking to us for years now in fear this would happen.

Andy Olsen@Andysbbqpit · 18h
PAC met today and they all claim to be United. Guessing B10 said not to Washington and Oregon.

MH ver3@MH ver3 · 18h
Let me remind you they said the same thing after SEC poached B12

I’ll bite. I agree OUW are B1G sooner than later. The Arizona’s are obvious to the B12. Assume CU/UU as well. Cal is likely a “take” as well. Coogs and Beaves screwed?

MH ver3@MH ver3 · 2h
Noise last night and this morning points to B1G going to 20. B12/Pac12 remnants merger back on the table.

MH ver3@MH ver3 · 2h
B1G has told Oregon and Washington they are in and want 2 more. Want to add all 4 in one final swoop. Waiting on ND to decide.

MH ver3@MH ver3 · 2h
If ND says yes then Stanford is in as well. If ND says no then it’s currently unclear what will happen.

Louis Oliverio@LouisOliverio · 2h
If ND says no I think it stays at 16.

1. ND is not likely to happen unless there's something going on that I'm not seeing. 2. WVU in mix? 3. Does WVU even want it if SEC may take CLEM/FSU?

MH ver3@MH ver3 · 2h
Depends on the money at that point. Fans would love it just because of the old rivalries. But if they lose fsu and Clemson the floodgates could open for further poaching and SEC may take more.

MH ver3@MH ver3 · 2h
B1G is making an impassioned push for ND as well-ACC commitment be damned.

Louis Oliverio@LouisOliverio · 2h
I heard ballpark was 120M to 140M for ND to buy out of obligation to ACC. Steep if true

MH ver3@MH ver3 · 2h
I have heard similar numbers as well

MH ver3@MH ver3 · 2h
ACC desperately trying to put together a power move of their own with ND and some combination of B12/P12 remnants

MH ver3@MH ver3 · 2h
I think when all the dust settles there will be 3 super conferences with 20+ members. UCF, Houston, BYU, and Cincy got very lucky with their B12 invites because they most likely got the last lifelines ever into power conferences.

MH ver3@MH ver3 · 2h
I can tell you that Lyons and Gee are certain WVU’s future is fine regardless of what happens and we will have a spot in one of the remaining power conferences whether there are 4 of them or 3.

MH ver3@MH ver3 · 2h
WVU has been talking with ACC, SEC, B1G, and their current conference. We will be fine.

MH ver3@MH ver3 · 2h
There very well could be a scenario where the ACC is poached by SEC and B1G and the remnants of the ACC and PAC merge with the B12 to create a “coast to coast” super conference.

Jason Berman@jasonb56 · 1h
What are your thoughts on a report this morning that WVU, Ok State and the Two Texas schools are targets for the ACC as quick acquisition?

MH ver3@MH ver3 · 1h
It’s true. I said as much yesterday only I’ve heard KU is one of the targets.

MH ver3@MH ver3 · 2h
My source just informed me that Arizona, Colorado, Utah, and Arizona State have applied for membership with the B12. Things are getting crazy!

Jay_G_Dun@doneagain73 · 1h
I doubt ANY P12 teams do anything in the near future as they’re ALL holding out hope they will get invited to the B10. Until the Notre Dame issue is settled for the Big 10, nothing else is going to happen, and ND is probably riding things out for the next 10 yrs due to ACC GOR

MH ver3@MH ver3 · 1h
The four schools that applied for B12 were already told outright “no thanks” by B1G
It’s great that the WV guys always believe in their school being saved. A third power conference you say?

This guy is smoking crack if he thinks WVU is fine in all of this. WVU will be in similar position as other leftovers after B1G and SEC are done.

There is a chance that ND joining could trigger a series of events where the Big10 takes Stanford and leaves Oregon and Washington out though. It’s all nuts right now. Hearing different things from different sources.

if that happens do you seen oregon and washington joining us in the big12

MH ver3@MH ver3 · 11m
I would think they would but there has yet to be any interest from those 2 schools with B12 from what I’ve been told.

Corey Wishnia@cwishn · 12m
The Big 10 should just bring in all the schools in the Pac 10 as a Western division.

MH ver3@MH ver3 · 10m
Replying to @cwishn
That will never happen because these additions are based on valuation metrics. USC and UCLA moved the needle a lot. Washington and Oregon move the needle a little. No one else does for the amount needed for per school revenue growth.

MH ver3@MH ver3 · 10m
Stanford getting in would bank on ND making Stanford joining a condition for their joining.

Not my usual source, but a Ohio State insider is saying to pay attention to Georgia Tech. Notre Dame and Georiga Tech have a long history of playing each other. Take this seriously folks. I'm not posting this as a rumor, take it serious.

college football fan@Genetics56 · 7h
After reading the Ohio State insider and the intel from my normal source, I'm leaning towards the Big Ten going to 24.

college football fan@Genetics56 · 7h
I repeat, Notre Dame and Georgia Tech ....take it seriously. Very seriously.

college football fan@Genetics56 · 7h
One thing to watch for, and this even surprises me, don't be surprised if you see Clemson's profile rise in the eyes of the Big Ten/FOX. Notre Dame, Georgia Tech, and sounds like they may want Clemson coming too. That way Notre Dame completes a national schedule.

college football fan@Genetics56 · 3h
I feel bad for Washington. 20 years from now people will be asking "why" and not many will remember the details. Houston was once in a conference with Oklahoma and Texas. Not everyone can be a winner. It's a harsh reality of life.

college football fan@Genetics56 · 1h
How did USC + UCLA to Big Ten get done so quietly without any national media getting a leak? OSU leaders are friends with leaders at USC and UCLA, which are also connected to Notre Dame. FOX. Warren didn't it up and got it across the finish line.

college football fan@Genetics56 · 1h
All of the signs were there though through the Sports Business Journal (in a public form) about the Big Ten TV deal. I'm amazed that nobody else, besides me, caught onto the numbers. When you ran the numbers, of course Pac 12 schools were going to the big Ten.

college football fan@Genetics56 · 1h
Now we just wait for Notre dame to announce and their most likely partner of Oregon/Stanford. The ACC schools will come, but that is going to take time.

college football fan@Genetics56 · 1h
If I had to put money on the table if the Big Ten will stop at 18, the answer I would provide is YES. I don't see them going to 20 right away. They will, just don't see it happening right now. Notre Dame is the prize and once that is in, you take the partner and go east.

TempoNick@tempo_nick · 1h
Except for people following a certain Twitter account. We were in the know.

college football fan@Genetics56 · 1h
yes, but I'm referring to those that get paid. Wilner had no clue too.

college football fan@Genetics56 · 1h
that is why you don't see Stanford or Oregon saying anything. Their mouths are shut closed. If either of them say anything in the coming days, it's over for them and they will get left behind. It's sad, but reality. There were always going to be some hurt feelings to breakway

TempoNick@tempo_nick · 1h
The question is also whether you want the SEC to take Oregon and Washington? If they took Missouri, they're not going to be as picky as we are. I still say take them.

college football fan@Genetics56 · 58m
Would they take Washington (SEC)? That is a good question.

For what it is worth,,,,

Supposed Insider who called out the two conference movement a year ago...

"Hearing that ESPN executives plan to meet with Jim Phillips this week to discuss the way forward for the ACC. The SEC is planning for expansion and ESPN will help facilitate moving the top brands accordingly.

ESPN will present a viable pathway for the leftover ACC schools to not be harmed financially in a way that makes sense for all involved. There is still a decent amount of market value left to restructure media contracts for what will be left of the ACC, Big 12 and PAC after the heavyweights migrate to the B1G and SEC.

Wake Forest, BC, etc. being in a middleweight league is a lot better than crossing ESPN and FOX and getting demoted further down to Sun Belt level payouts. ESPN has enormous contractual and financial leverage to make this happen.

This is still going to take some time to work out and things are still fluid but we are way ahead of the 18 month timetable I posted about months ago."

If true the SEC is about to poach the ACC which would potentially put UCONN in play if/when the ACC decides to replace the lost schools. It does seem rather obvious that a re-shuffled ACC is UCONN's most likely landing spot unless the B1G offers us a half share spot in their league. There are plenty of reasons for ESPN to want UCONN added to the ACC in this tug of war between ESPN and Fox. Top of the list would be to weaken the BIg East again.

Withdrawal fee
If UConn decides to leave the Big East, it will have to pay a hefty fee. The terms of the contract state that UConn will be responsible for paying the conference $30 million if it withdraws within the first six years of membership. If the school bails within a three-year period after that, $15 million is owed. After 10 years, UConn would owe $10 million. A withdrawal fee can be split up into four payments, if necessary.
