NCAA To Announce Preliminary Seedings Monday.

Albany has Miss St, UConn, & Ore St -- and that's weak?

For real. What is Charlie smoking? You have 2 massive powers, an always dangerous Oregon State and a very dangerous Miami team who just beat Notre Dame. Albany and Greensboro are by far the toughest. Chicago is okay, Portland is awful.

He's talking about the sum of the "true" seeds. If the regions were perfectly balanced, they would all add up to 34. But:
MSU 4 + UConn 5 + Oregon St 12 + Miami 16 = 37 (+3)

In theory, sums that exceed 34 suggest a "weaker" region; sums below 34 suggest a stronger region, e.g.:
Baylor 1 + ND 6 + Maryland 11 + SC 13 = 31 (-3)

Ah, ok, I didnt see the individual ranks. They could've explained that much better.
Given this, why not at least flip Ore St & MD?

College Park MD to Albany = 357 miles
College Park MD to Greensboro = 331 miles

I believe the NCAA's definition of "driving distance" is <350 miles. Go figure.

Because Brenda would be crying her eyes out about how unfair it is that SHE has to travel to Albany and have to play against UConn AND their fan base.

I notice on the crawl at the bottom of the screen, among the 2-seeds, are UCONN, Notre Dame, NORTH CAROLINA, Stanford.

I HATE when this happens! I can't count the times NC State has been referred to as North Carolina. Like UNC is the only school in the state of North Carolina!

NC State as a #2 makes me suspect that the committee made their decision a week or two ago. There is just no way that with their current resume, with losses to UNC and FSU and only a win over Michigan St to hang their hat on, that NC State has the 8th best resume.

Was Miami a 4-seed a week ago?

Distance is similiar though driving wise Its alot easier for the turtles to get to Greensboro than Albany. Plus its familiar territory for their fans. Probably will be some ACC fans in the stands welcoming them back with open arms :rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

I don't know. The resumes in the 10-20 range are all so jumbled that it's possible.

Wait, Maryland has fans who travel? News to me...

Haha y'all could use a major rebranding. How about "Wolfpack State"?

I dare you to say that in the state of NC around anyone wearing red..... better be ready to fight

I'll say it in the bleachers of Cameron Indoor at a State-Duke game :)

It's ridiculous. My senior year, our women's bowling club team advanced to nationals in Denver. As statistician for both bowling clubs, I got to go watch. I still have the program from the national finals, in which we were labeled as 'The North Carolina Wolfpack'. (BTW...our team finished 12th out of 12 at nationals...but it was exciting to see our ladies advance that far.)

This problem has been around since I was a child. Despite branding efforts for all athletic teams to be referred to as NC State, we still get referred to as North Carolina a lot!

Who even cares about this stuff right now? He keeps talking about UConn being a 2 and needing help to secure a #1. Yeah go ask the other teams if they want to be in UConn's bracket.

11 straight final fours is all they will be looking at.

I don't understand what happened to quality win's and bad losses, UConn should still be a 1. 2 losses. Both to what are top 3 teams and both on the road. Big wins against ND (away) and SC (home). Look at Miss St.'s wins and losses. How are they given to be better?

First of all, the committee decided their "reveal" seedings before the UConn-SC game.

UConn had the edge on a comparison of best wins, and I expected that to put them just ahead of MSU. But maybe the committee looked at the next batch of wins as the decisive factor. No doubt that MSU's wins over SC, Kentucky and Texas are better than UConn's wins over Cal, UCF and DePaul.

Edit to add: Or, maybe the committee watches a few minutes of the UConn-Cincinnati game.

Then after the game the seeding guy says UConn basically needs help to be a 1, but ND can play back to a 1. UConn beat them pretty badly at their place and they have bad losses. To me it is anti UConn bias. You have no contro over league but AAC much improved (thanks to UConn's help) and SEC worse. I'd worry more but Geno seems to care less or prefer it this way as he says = you need to just win 6 games. seeding doesn't matter.

The resumes are similar. State's only loss is to the other 1 seed and the two teams have similar #'s of Top 25 and Top 50 wins. SC win for UConn was obviously not a factor.

They probably gave MSU the #1 vs UConn since they sent them to Albany.

ND still has games against Syracuse, NC State left in the regular season... and they will probably get a combination of Miami/Syracuse/NC State and then Louisville in the ACC Tourney Final. Win all those.. and they will be a #1 no doubt.

ND doesnt have bad losses... they have a bad loss (in chapel hill)

No, it has nothing to do with bias. There are the principles that seeding is based on, year in and year out.

If Notre Dame wins out and beats Louisville again on the way to an ACC tournament title, they'll make a very strong case to pass both UConn and Miss St.

RPI's should just be a starting point in respect to determining the actual strength of schedule. It does not factor in some of the preseason cup cakes that some really good teams end up playing for a variety of reasons. Playing a very low rated team can bring someones RPI down considerably, while getting blown out by a highly rated team will bring it up. So in reality a top 50 team at the lower spectrum could be very mediocre and not as good as a team rated below them using the RPI gage.

The committee does not seem quite as lazy as Creme so they are not going totally by the flawed RPI fomula. So when he quotes top 50 RPI wins as a major factor, he is just supporting the lazy and flawed criteria he uses. Someone who cherry picks stats to support his own perspectives has little to say about others methods.

That does not make the Committee necessarily right, but using RPI to discredit them is a joke.

Trying to say there is anti UCONN Bias when it comes to Women’s Basketball is hilarious
