Oy vey.
I think most of Bruce's stuff post The River is simply mediocre to crap. He was much more interesting in the 70s.

Wow. I can see you lifting your shirt dancing to "Tell Her About It."I'll say this much in relation to Bruce and Billy - if given a choice of attending a concert where each artist would only perform songs written after 1980, I actually think I'd choose Joel.
They don't seem to get a lot of stuff down there though. When driving in that part of the country it seems like the majority of radio is country pop and bible talk radio.

That’s not true in Atlanta (home to some of the most interesting and innovative hip hop artists) and, all around, a mostly cosmopolitan city or Athens which, pound for pound, might have the best alternative rock history of any place
I admittedly don't know Atlanta at all other than stopping at the Varsity on the way to Savannah a few times but the radio seemed pretty bad whenever I was in the South. I love Outkast and Goodie Mob though. That’s not true in Atlanta (home to some of the most interesting and innovative hip hop artists) and, all around, a mostly cosmopolitan city or Athens which, pound for pound, might have the best alternative rock history of any place

Conley's undergrad alma mater. '77?
If it makes you feel any better, I am a white middle aged man and I think they all suck!!!!!We have a middle aged white journalist implying Bruce over Prince and Dylan. Shocker
Nebraska while depressing is some beautiful songwriting.I think most of Bruce's stuff post The River is simply mediocre to crap. He was much more interesting in the 70s.
Seems like almost everyone who reaches an epic status. They seem to lose the hunger at some point.Nebraska while depressing is some beautiful songwriting.
Tunnel of Love gets ripped on by some but it's damn good.Nebraska while depressing is some beautiful songwriting.

The Rising and Magic are very solid albumsWhile I agree the overall album quality drops some, there are still bunch of really fantastic songs post 1980
Sarah Vaughan fills out that group.So...I am not interested in going through 9 pages of comments, so forgive me if this has been said. But I don't care who your fourth is.... Sinatra is King of all American music and Springsteen and Whitney aren't far behind. Stick in whoever for fourth, but those 3 are unbeatable. And I am not a New Jersey fan.

Fourth would be Paul Simon - thats an impressive group with a broad rangeSo...I am not interested in going through 9 pages of comments, so forgive me if this has been said. Should beSteam was never a real band
What about Charles Ives. Tracy Chapman. And carol king?Props for bringing Ap in to the convo. Apathy is hands down the king of CT.
But they were the manHe was really good in Scrubs.
Steely Dan is good - but Bon Jovi is internationally famous and Steely Dan being a band and not a person was a joke on a national television marketing campaign.
Wasn’t Tupac originally from Norwalk or at least stayed there for awhile? I knew his cousin and a friend of ours family fostered him in CT for a spell. Oddly. They had a member who is friends with Moby now.If Connecticut included NY, NJ MA and eastern PA to more or less equal Texas, we’d kill it.

There's a difference between being "good" artistically and selling tickets. It's why I don't think that Bon Jovi necessarily belongs on any Rushmore.1. I actually posted in this thread about seeing Nickleback and they stunk.
2. Comparing Nickleback to Billy Joel is absurd.
I love the BY - the nonsensical posturing is amazing.
