The reaction of the woman next to the man is hilariously annoying. I would have ripped her fat finger off if I was Marcus. Good for him for not ripping her fat finger off.
One point a lot of you are missing is he had a chance to get up and walk out of the situation. Instead, he walked into it. If he walks out after getting up, it's over. He walked up to the fan before he said anything. Is that fan a mushroom cap? Probably. Doesn't matter. He walked into it making the situation worse and then shoved him after he said something.
Sure, he's a young man and they make mistakes - so do old men.
Bottom line you just can't shove a spectator that hard who has not assaulted you. He's going to get some kind of suspension and he's going to hurt his draft status. In my opinion, there's little doubt that he didn't cost himself a fair amount of money. On the other hand, he'll make more in 1 or 2 years than I've made in my life so it's not like he's really hurt his ability to feed his family and have a roof over his head.
It was just a stupid thing to do and it will have consequences.
he won't play in Cleveland is that a consequence

So you're saying every time a fan verbally assaults a basketball player they have the right to go into the stands and shove a spectator? Got it. Let the games begin. He was assaulted. Verbally.
If this happened anywhere else, nobody would have an issue with what Smart did. At all. But because he did it in a place with a lot of seats and two metal circles 94 feet apart, "THERES NO PLACE FOR THAT!!!"
Heck outta here.

1) yes and no. On the one hand he is saying that it's OK to react to fans 'verbally assaulting' players. On the other he probably doesn't think that's OK.You really think he's saying that?
Your narrative ignores the way in which Smart initially got off the court and close to the stands. It also ignores the subsequently more 'intimate' nature of the fan's enthusiasm. This may not change your opinion regarding the inadvisability of Smart's actions, but at least get the context right. This wasn't a player going directly from court to fan.
Bottom line is you don't physically (sometimes verbally) attack spectators. You're there to play the game, not to attack a fan. As an athlete you're supposed to channel that out.
So some on here think that the Brawl at the Palace was a justified fight because someone said the N word? Please.
And spectators are there to spectate not provoke the atheletes. Not saying Smart was right in what he did but he was provoked and acted accordingly.
The Malice at the Palace wasn't started by someone saying the N word so I'm not even sure why you would bring that up.
If Marcus Smart was really called a by this fan then Smart will be be suspended for several games and I will applaud him for pushing that piece of and wish he knocked him out,

It doesn't. You can't assault someone for what they say. Period, end of sentence. That's the cost of being a grown-up.If Jeff Orr dropped the N-word or something similar on Smart, the only reaction SHOULD be to APPLAUD Smart for not beating him within an inch of his life.
"It doesn't matter what he said, you can't do that!"
*ck outta here...
I hear you but I don't understand how you can post the N word and that's ok when I can't post any swear word that describes fecal matter, the N word makes my skin crawl and it used in any context isn't cool, Mods please clean up the board it doesn't belong hereIf Marcus Smart was really called a by this fan then Smart will be be suspended for several games and I will applaud him for pushing that piece of and wish he knocked him out,
It ain't that easy. Losing 4 of your last 5, draft stock taking a hit, and then their #1 fan provokes you with saying something (the right words) to push your buttons. Its a shove not a punch, with a 50+ year grown ass man involved in this. The fan admittedly stated he said something antagonistic to Smart.I can't believe anyone is defending him. I don't care what the guy said, you just can't shove a fan who hasn't physically assaulted you. And the fact that you didn't walk out first but walked into the confrontation to begin with is beyond stupid.
Note cultural bias built into the profanity filter.

a very bad joke....... this situation is both sad and wrong in many ways. lets hope that ok state doesn't give up on this kid off the court and puts the right people around him so he can get his life back in order. he is a super talented KID that for some reason has spiraled out of control. i hate to see stuff like this and really hope that Marcus Smart can somehow get back to being who we saw in the preseason.I hope this is a joke.
Good for Marcus Smart. He didn't do anything too bad w a shove. A fan should have responsibility just like a player or coach. There is no doubt the fan started it while Marcus was in a precarious defenseless position. Hopefully the fan is bannedFrom a "source", it was definitely a racially derogative statement. No excuses for either party. Unfortunate.
I was replaying some of the footage from ESPN and I find it strange that fans would address a player in the first place. Just seem kinda trashy to me.
