Texas Tech posted a profile of this "super fan" on their athletics website. His name is Jeff Orr: http://today.ttu.edu/2010/03/texas-tech-basketball-fan-extraordinaire/…

Just looking at that video annoys the hell out of me. The fans are practically on top of the OSU bench and the older women on the left is clapping right in Smart's face. Looks like he may have gotten up just to tell them off then the guy crossed the line. Sure the athlete shouldn't cross the 4th wall but the fans need to have some decency.

Are you kidding me! How in the world are you making this into a race thing. It doesn't matter what color the player is, pink, purple, or whatever. It was a punk move by a frustrated kid who should have known better.

Im just saying people caused a stir over the whole sherman thug thing and race was definitely brought into the equation there. We will most likely hear about the whole "thug" thing with Smart tomorrow. Not saying I agree with it. But a lot of people will take it that far.

I was replaying some of the footage from ESPN and I find it strange that fans would address a player in the first place. Just seem kinda trashy to me. Still no excuse for pushing a fan.

It looked like that not only the guy that got pushed was trash talking but the two women on either side of him were directing some sort of words to Smart as well. Sometimes fans go way too far. It's not like this is a professional player, just a college player. What's with crazy people from Texas.

Should we expect basic human logic from the institution that hired Bobby Knight after IU finally had enough?

I don't think this will effect his draft stock much, if at all. He's a bright kid who clearly has a bit of a temper problem - it will probably be resolved in time.

if Ron Artest, and Dennis Rodman can play in the league for a long time then this kid will be ok

I can't believe anyone is defending him. I don't care what the guy said, you just can't shove a fan who hasn't physically assaulted you. And the fact that you didn't walk out first but walked into the confrontation to begin with is beyond stupid.

Also keep in mind it is Texas Tech. With the way their fans flooded our boards when we hired Tuberville, they clearly aren't the brightest bunch. They are a lot like WVU fans...

don't think anyone is defending him, I think this will get more attention then AH killing someone

He's not been playing very well lately, but if I'm a GM and deciding between a few players of similar abilities, that might make a difference in me picking him at that spot. I think it's been proven enough that professional athletes that show poor character can have a big impact on you franchise, and you're paying these guys a lot of money to help your team win and represent your brand.

I'm not defending Smart as much as I'm damning the fans. Like a little kid throwing rocks at a dog then goes crying when the dog bites him.

Apparently people are saying jeff orr dropped the n bomb on smart

I don't think he's a bad kid. Prior to a couple weeks ago, all we heard about him is how intelligent and well-mannered he is for somebody his age. Shoving a fan is obviously not excusable under any circumstances, but there are a lot of players in the NBA that would probably react in similar fashion if the right thing was said to put them over the top. I'm not defending his actions, but I also don't think they are indicative of his character. How he handles the situation from here will tell us what we need to know about him.

If Jeff Orr dropped the N-word or something similar on Smart, the only reaction SHOULD be to APPLAUD Smart for not beating him within an inch of his life.

"It doesn't matter what he said, you can't do that!"

**ck outta here...

Not defending Smart. But I'm pretty sure this douchenozzle said something really offensive.

Regardless, I'm sure there are teams towards the middle of the draft pack licking their chops. Sure, Smart's draft stock is gonna go down, but this kid is super talented and is going to be a great NBA player. In the end, it won't stop teams from wanting him if he's got a little temper issue.

No words justify responding with violence. Interesting that equal amount of responses about hurting his draft stock and that fan deserved it.

Let's say you get $1,000 for enduring 1 minute of verbal abuse but you lose it if you respond. Nothing makes you respond right? Smart's situation is essentially that times 1000 in time and money.

He is going to get a long suspension I think.

Someone on Deadspin found this asshat superfan in another video. Last 5 seconds of video shows him mouthing off and gesturing up yours to an opposing player.

I was just about to post this.. This fan definitely has some history.

Do you think with all of this negative attention that TTU might discipline this fan? Just curious what your thoughts are...

Bryan Davis:
“@B_Davis0: The same guy that talked crazy to me for 4 years. Smh but you should never put your hands on a fan.”

I'm not about to defend Smart for pushing the fan, but if it's proven that this fan said something inappropriate, and has a history of this sort of thing, they should take away his season tickets and never let him back in that building.

When I saw the replay that fan and ever the woman next to him looked familiar in that it reminded me of some similar last fan situation. Maybe I'm just imagining it.

Yep, USA Today even referred to the guy as Texas Tech's number 1 fan back in 2010.

You make a good point. How he handles himself from this point on will speak volumes.
