March 17 Non-UConn games thread

I got stuck w/ a bunch of games I wasn't interested in yesterday. Let me watch UCLA okay?!

Meanwhile another SEC team is struggling in a low scoring game. Florida Gulf Coast 29 Mizzou 22 (2Q, 4:19)

Not sure I’d say toss up. 11 over 6 is a big upset in the women’s bravket
They had a higher RPI and were one point lower in the Sagarin rating. Seeding is never real accurate as far as who's favored in middle seed games and LSU was without their starting center. Toss up and it played out that way.

UCLA offense has ground to a halt in Q2. Chucking bricks from the perimeter mostly. They cranked up the D pressure to get ahead, but now they aren't forcing TOs. 34-22 approaching halftime. UCLA just missed a pair of shots from point blank range that rimmed out.

Is UCLA really that big a draw that they are airing this game and not the other 3 more competitive games? The arena is almost totally empty too.
I've noticed they tend to prefer showing the higher-seeded teams as opposed to showing the more evenly matched middle seeds.

Canada over 800 career assists. That's a big number!

UCLA w/ a back to back buckets, but American answers w/ a 3 (and a foul, but missed the FT).

38-25 at halftime

They've switched to Missouri-FGCU in my area. Elise Woodward on the call, another of my favorites.

Oklahoma State on a 37-7 run and has turned a close game into a blowout.

UCLA not known for 3 point shooting, but they are 8-12 today and have stretched the lead back out to 57-45.

RPI is not a power rating.

I have no idea what “1 pt lower in Sagarin” means in any statistical sense.

“Seeding is never accurate in middle seed games. “.
Not true at all.
I don’t have the stats in front of me but in the women’s draw, the higher seeded team wins overwhelmingly.

Well, I didn't assume anyone would take that nearly literally. UConn players wouldn't pass on if they played in those conferences.

Where else are they supposed to say it other than there and online boards?
You hear it during SEC games when the sportscasters ramble on about the “gauntlet” in the SEC and how brutal the conference is. How they say that without cracking up while the teams are throwing up airballs and dribbling balls off their shins is a mystery to me.

The SEC Network, like all of the conference-specific networks, function as the broadcasting arm of the conference PR department. Their mouthpieces are duty-bound to extol at every turn the virtues of their competition level.

Meanwhile, Arizona State has broken the stalemate with Nebraska and jumped out to a 15-point lead with 7:00 left to play.

Sophie Cunningham has the fighting skills of Wonder Woman. But seriously, if UConn gets these refs Lexi and Molly are going to get some unexpected playing time.

UCLA is probably going to hang on, but looks like they didn't get much from Canada or Billings in the 2nd half.

That Okie State-Syracuse score is surprising. I wonder what the biggest margin in #8 vs. #9 seed game is? OSU up 30, under 1 minute left.

An insult to WW, I would say the Hulk. Sophie is earning all her fouls. FGCU has no one over 6 foot and they are taking Mizzou to the woodshed unless the ref's get in the way.

Refs have learned to call Missouri games pretty tight.

Cunningham was on the losing end of that one, Dow just smacked her pretty good.
