I dont get the appeal of Memphis for the BigE.
It would have to be pro rata and a 30 million exit fee or no deal. That’s because there is none.
We get Memphis and less money. That’s the pitch.
Memphis doesn't move the needle for me. And, I don't want to get rid of the round robin BE format. To enhance the BE media contract, I would advise the BE schools to schedule marquis OOC games that media buyers want similar to what UConn is doing for this year.
And it has a history of playing loose with the rules*. Doesnt seem like a cultural fit with the existing members.I don't see the Big East being interested in Memphis at all. BE is a conference of Catholic/private basketball schools. UConn is in because it was a founding member of the original BE conference and has basketball rivalries and is a basketball blue blood. Perhaps another flagship basketball school or former member of the Big East. Memphis is neither private nor former BE nor flagship nor blueblood.
Chin just fixed the glitch.Keep the round robin. Eliminate DePaul from the schedule.
Give DePaul the Milton treatment from Office Space. Just remove them from the schedule.
I dont get the appeal of Memphis.
For FB, they are probably among the top 5 non-P4 schools.Made your post a little better.
Worked admirably before… have to see if Mike has any magic left:Well this would definitely be the time to get out of the American. What next? Get Klivakoff or Larry Scott to advise on expansion/ media strategy?

It gives UConn a partner for football, which might keep us in the conference for longer. If UConn leaves the BE, the BE is in a very bad position. Memphis also fits in with the basketball pedigree of the conference and would add strength there.I dont get the appeal of Memphis for the BigE.
Probably too simple & obvious for the hired Special Advisor to the Commissioner who’s charged with coming up with ways to improve their basketball profile. For what they’re paying him, he’d be too embarrassed to come up with something that any college basketball fan could already tell you."You want to improve your conferences basketball stature? In the last 10 years, Memphis has made 3 NCAA Tournaments and they have won 1 tournament game. In the past 10 years, Butler has been to 3 NCAA Tournaments and won 4 games. It gives UConn a partner for football, which might keep us in the conference for longer. Fair point - but this offers an avenue for BE expansion which will need to happen if the league is going to stay relevant. It wouldn’t be a mismatch from a basketball standpoint. In the last 10 years, Memphis has made 3 NCAA Tournaments and they have won 1 tournament game. In the past 10 years, Butler has been to 3 NCAA Tournaments and won 4 games.
True but doesn’t accurately depict what’s going on on the ground. Butler has not made the tournament since before Covid. Memphis has made the tournament the last three years. In the last 10 years, Memphis has made 3 NCAA Tournaments and they have won 1 tournament game.
