Something. Is. Up.

We're not doing the monitoring. Someone Big is monitoring us. Pack the rent.
Its been an audition here for a year now....sometimes officially, sometimes unofficially.

Anyone who wants to improve our possibility of landing in a P level conference should invest a few hours Saturday to take in the game at the Rent. If you need tickets, they should be very reasonable through the athletic department's ticket office. If that's beyond what you want to spend, send me a DM. I may have two spare tickets.

The athletic department needs to do what they do for Bowl games, let people who don't live in Connecticut but want to support the football team purchase tickets that can then be given to different groups. Let's say 50 dollars for 2 tickets.

I have six season tickets and give them away to people on the boneyard easily, but I can't for the life of me give them away for FREE to any friends and family -- and I have a big group of friends (many who went to UConn). Maybe I need new friends lol

I have not been able to get more than 3-4 friends together for a game since early 2010's. Maybe it's because we sucked so bad for so long, maybe it's because I'm based in Fairfield County, or maybe it's because we're at the age where we have young kids and a lot going on the weekends (I miss half the games too because of this), but damn it's depressing. The team clearly needs our support -- we gotta market ourselves to a power conference and I feel like it's a do or die point in time.

I understand Olympic sports suffering, but field hockey never left BE and hockey is covered. Really what we’re down to is the cross country team earning their name!
Realistically for Track/Cross Country, Swimming etc it's not a dual meet scenario where you're flying them out to win, they'll compete locally and in invitationals, then fly out for a conference championship meet.

The non-revenue sports with travel concerns are your team sports, where Wins/Losses are measured in the standings.

When we were bad at basketball it was the same issue with giving away basketball tickets. Winning fixes everything.

How's the sell-out or near sell-out looking so far?
I saw someone post on twitter that it was looking like only around 28k so far based on most tickets in lower bowl taken but 8-10k in upper bowl avail. Disappointing

Not sure how accurate (can’t link since username has profanity)

Let’s not fixate too much on tickets. Crowds at places like wake, Vandy, cincy, duke are in the 30k area. Part of the challenge we have is playing teams that don’t take their allotment or draw fans. Not a lot of rice, fau, temple fans/alums in the area to show up. Keep winning, get in a P conference and the stadium will fill up. Let’s just hope the 28k get in, are loud, and stay. Go huskies, big test this weekend - wake, like temple, has a misleading record. Ole Miss is really good. Beat ncstate and lost to uva in nail biter.

The Rent Attendance
My current situation is that family obligations don't allow me to make any games this year.

I was thinking of an interesting metric, one which the state of Connecticut would like be #1. Just our reality.

Take the population of the state and calculate number of professional teams and distance to those teams. So for each resident, we have a high number of pro teams within a very short distance. Taking the big 4 sports plus soccer, there are at least 16 professional major league sports teams within a short drive. That doesn't even include Philly and other nearby locations. If people are fans of those teams, the pro team is going to take priority over UConn football. I don't think any other state has a population as concentrated to so many pro sports teams.

Then add in all of the other entertainment options between NYC and Boston and we are just loaded. Compare to the SEC which is the complete opposite.

Word on the street is that the authorities expect 25k. And Wake has an allotment of 2000 which has been filled (their band will be attending).
Too bad. Two different people invited us but we are volunteering at the marathon. Maybe next week

Ackerman told Sports Business Journal the league is also working to add a subpackage to supplement its media rights agreement that would include around 30 men’s games and 75 women’s games, although exact valuations on those contests are fluid.

Can't read it. Can someone summarize?
See above for link. Not much new in regards to big 12 - yormark still beating the drum of separating basketball from football media deals and the getting more value out of basketball.

The excerpt I posted about big east media was the most interesting to me.

For me that article is meh. I know I'm overly sensitive, but it mentions blue bloods (what the hell as Indiana done lately, ah yes, nothing) and powers (Arizona with their ONE lone title in 1997 makes them a power???), then blah blah blah UConn with their 17 combined titles. Not power, not blue blood, more of an afterthought. Makes sense since the writer is an Indiana grad. At least the lead in pic is UConn. My rant's over, back to work.

This was interesting. Basketball basically the same annual value as football when split out. That doesn't match what some are saying but gives credence to what Yormark has said.

The ACC, for example, had separate deals for football (ESPN/ABC) and basketball (Raycom Sports) until 2010, when it packaged both sports in a 12-year, $1.86 billion contract with ESPN. Under the terms of its previous agreements, football netted the league $258 million over seven years, while basketball brought in $370 million over 10 years. Together, those deals accounted for around $75 million annually, while the succeeding ESPN contract that packaged both sports saw the yearly value jump to $155 million.

Yes exactly. Total game attendance and tv money are fairly equal for the regular season games when accounting for more basketball games, but the way the playoff systems are run and money gets distributed creates a big divide. This could change in the future and likely will change once the schools split from the ncaa. Also, basketball is more popular globally, so getting basketball fans from around the world to bet on college games and watch them creates much more realistic growth potential for college basketball. Revenue sharing combined with NIL should attract more talent from around the world to the college game and keep that talent in the college game longer before they move on to professional leagues. This will attract more global viewership because the quality of play will be higher, and the number of international players will likely be higher as well.
