Key tweets, and it's all gone to Hell.

They say that there is no such thing as bad publicity. The future of the ACC has become sports entertainment fodder for twitterati and YouTube podcasters. And the speculation is heating up.

Entertainment for the dog days of summer..

Can Rhett go back to Scarlett ?

Does Rick stay in Casablanca and watch Lisa fly off to Lisbon with Victor Lazlo ?

Is there anything more annoying than the "I'm hearing things, but I can't tell you what they are, or where I'm hearing them but they are definitely things and I'm definitely hearing them" post? Minimally, one would think that you could post either the rumor, or the source e.g., "there are credible rumblings that we are being looked at by the Big Ten" or "I'm hearing that news could be coming soon from a decent source in the AD's office."

If you can't do either one of those things, why bother posting? Basically those posts are either trolling or the poster jumping up and down saying "look at me I'm important."

The rumblings are probably the same ones I’ve heard. The ACC leftovers and ESPN are preparing to replace 4 schools. If we can get in on an ESPN supported ACC 2.0, it’s probably the best realistic option. The support of ESPN is critical to keeping the other members intact.

Agree. I might all certain that ESPN isn't going to decide to "big east" the ACC, stripping out the most valuable teams, moving them to other conferences and then lowballing the remaining members. Under that scenario, Connecticut to the ACC might make sense for ESPN to underwrite.

Would love to have the big 12 have interest in us at the same time so that we would be in the conversation for a full share.

To be honest, I'm not entirely sure whether I would prefer to be in the big 12 or a weekend ACC. The big 12 might have a better future, but depending on who's left, the ACC could make more sense geographically and give us the opportunity to play some old Big East rivals.

This seems rather significant.

It's so hard to say because it really says nothing verifiable. But, for whatever reason, it did seem credible.

Hopefully, we won't get screwed again. I'm not confident of that, because it seems like the fates conspire to screw us over in different and unique ways every time there's realignment.

(Personally, I blame Deepster)

Meh. Clickbait nonsense.

Stop whining.

He heard things.

The link to the Josh Pate quotes was certainly to a clickbait site- but that fact doesn’t change what was said.

Here is a link to his podcast where he makes these statements. It’s a short segment starting at 28:34 or so.

As for Josh Pate himself, I am not familiar enough with him to have a strong opinion about his content. He is a CBS employee through the 247 platform and unlike many of the CRA twitterati it appears he doesn’t live in mom’s basement.

Bottom line- he thinks the ACC reorg will be announced by week zero.

Lol, stop pretending to be an insider.

Oh I’m not an insider. But I also live in Big 12 country. And I definitely heard something. It’s not specific enough to believe. At first I thought it was just an echo from last summer but it’s been since then…

I prefer the ACC by the way. Which still seems more likely to me.

With all of this churn do you really think the schilling is sitting on its hands monitoring the situation?

Now or never…

No one has ever explained why only one school has sued to stop the split of the backpay. I am not interested in stupid opinions like "they don't have a choice". I want an actual explanation quoting one of the schools' AD's or President's rationale for not suing to stop it. At a minimum, this is a gross abuse of fiduciary duty by the NCAA leadership, and could be worse. Why would Baker do this, and why is only one school suing to stop it?

I hope AD David Benedict isn't pulling a Warde Manuel and has gone into full monitoring mode. he seems more productive than that.

We've just been burned so much by this process that I find it more sensible to keep a healthy skepticism. Still, it's always good to hear there are rumblings.

I have to say I am pretty ambivalent about the choice between the big 12 and the ACC, especially considering that, as far as I am aware, we don't have an offer from either. The ACC is a better geographic fit with some historic rivalries and some good basketball schools, plus football teams that we can potentially compete with.

That said, I'm not sure what will be left after the ACC gets gutted. I think the big 12 is likely to be the more stable conference, ironically enough, because it doesn't seem like anybody really wants their members.

Both conferences have yanked us around so, truth be told, I hate them both. Still, I would be grateful for a membership invite to either. Any port will do in a storm, I guess.

You really should have created a sock for this.

Nah. Just because someone is talking to someone doesn’t mean anything will happen.

There is just no way that everyone in the G5 isn’t blowing up phones in the Big 12 and ACC.

Ok not reading all that. Sounds nice.

What new has happened? FSU and Clemson want to get out of the ACC. Good for them. The SEC does not want or need them, and the Big 10 is never going to offer full share memberships again, especially to two schools that do not have other options. Maybe they will get more than they did in the ACC, but at the cost of a schedule that their fans don't care about.

They will get out, along with another.

The ACC will attempt to announce a new slate. The Big 12 will disrupt that.

That’s where ESPN comes in. Do they want to build the Big 12 or save the ACC?

I would not be one bit surprised if we receive a double nutsack nunchuck with news about Benedict and Mora at some point.

Colorado & Arizona State - that would make the B1G once again a contiguous conference, coast-2-coast, like butter & toast. Likely or not, doesn't matter. The kicks will keep on coming. Utah, Kansas, Oklahoma State could also be targets for the P2.
