Key tweets, and it's all gone to Hell.

Key tweets!! It's that a tweet? Nope.

No pics, no opinions.

Why is that so hard to understand?!?

(J/k. Wanted to get in before fishy.)

I totally get that this thread is about "Key Tweets". But if discussion about key tweets is discouraged, is there a separate thread where we should go to discuss the key tweets? I'm just trying to understand how this thread works. I would think that "key tweets", at it's essence, should be about the social media discourse surrounding UConn football and, as UConn football's core supporters, we should encourage discussion and react to said discourse in ways that promote the ascendance of UConn football? Maybe the "rule" on this thread should be that each post needs to include a reference to, or include, a new or old key tweet?

I have no freaking idea - I was just having a little bit of fun. Seems like every thread around here starts off talking about UCONN and conference realignment, then regresses to arguments about the Louisiana Land Purchase.

It's probably impossible to enforce. But the issue is that people check this thread for updates and see a bunch of new posts, and there's no new info most of the time and they go home disappointed. Just like with this post.

Maybe someone (@jostar1?) could start a CR Retweets twitter account, where they would follow all the McMurphy or Tramel sportswriter types, college presidents, etc., and retweet the key tweets and nothing else. Then we could embed that timeline here somehow...?

This is where the key tweets go. And only the key tweets. Do not f--- around.

Reminds of the time that my old man and I got busted for illegal clamming out by Mystic somewhere ( I was maybe 8 years old). The DEP Cop, after taking all of our clams, marches us a half mile down the street and then has to physically push away a pile of vines an other plant life (hope it was poison ivy) from a telephone pole and behind all of that was a rusted out sign saying the cove we were at was protected and clamming was illegal. We were not impressed. Mom was even less impressed.

Nice. My clamming stories goon a slightly different context. We better hurry up and stop this conversation before the Pickup Private orders a Code Red on us for discussing something other than a Key Tweet in the Key Tweet Thread. Keep this on the DL.

VERY interesting read...
Isn't the articles thesis sort of disproved by the BIG12 additions of WVU and TCU and Louisville to the ACC? Academics obviously didn't matter then. Maybe the article should be titled "we like to say academics matter but it's really about good football teams and television revenue"?

IMHO the article was more about disproving the OU to B1G rumors...reinforcing the fact that outside of ND the only schools being admitted into the B1G have to be a member of the AAU.

What's with Canadian teams and the damn maple leaf on their jerseys? Like we don't know Canada exists?
This is America, so no. Go back to France!

Valid only up to the consideration of Nebraska. Yes, at the time of invitation, Nebraska was AAU. However their ouster at the next AAU annual meeting was lead by two Big Ten institutions and their fate was know at the time of invitation.

But they met the requirement of being an AAU member to get in to the B1G....Fact remains that until it happens the B1G does NOT and NEVER has extend a membership invitation to a school that is not a member of the AAU.

True only through a technicality. The same schools that voted unequivocally to bring in Nebraska were the same ones who were simultaneously voting them out of AAU. It's not like they were hoodwinked.

On this AAU status thing, if a school is supposed to have it to be part of a club, and loses it, and doesn't get kicked out of the club, then a school without it should be able to join the club and then get it later.

But we're talking about clubs that made it real clear for a long time, that you needed 12 tribal members to have an end of year banquet, and then just voted a few days ago, that, nah - nevermind. 10 is ok.

So who knows. But it does get annoying paying attention to these administrators pick their noses and complain about being competitive in the arena, when UCONN is sitting on the bench.

Just got to keep up with the relationships so when there is another meaningful vote, we make it through tribal council.

I still think that AAU Membership is simply a preference not a requirement. Everybody and their brother knows that if ND's President phoned Delany tonight and said we are done with independence we want all in for all sports, that there would be a press conference tomorrow announcing Notre Dame's inclusion in the B1G.

When I was backpacking through Europe in the 90's, the Canadian, Australians and the Kiwi all had their country's flag prominently displayed on their backpacks to make sure the world knew there were not Americans.

Cool. Are Big Ten states going to be annexed by Canada?

More like vice versa, U Toronto and McGill (Montreal) are both AAU. Those a large metro markets just waiting for B1G Hockey.

This may be borderline non-key, but Kevin Sherrington is a columnist at a Dallas paper.

Could expansion make a difference? Not if you're talking the current group of candidates. BYU is attractive because of its national appeal, but it has a network of its own, too, not to mention travel and scheduling concerns.

The rest -- Cincinnati, UConn, Houston, one of the Florida schools -- all have some appeal. But none moves the needle. This may hurt some feelings, but the last thing Texas wants is a reconstituted Southwest Conference. Besides, if you give, say, Houston a seat at the table, you make it even more viable with recruits. And Tom Herman is doing enough damage as it is.

If you add a school that couldn't even bring TV markets you already own, or doesn't promise others, what's the point? No use dividing the pie any further.

Any expansion talk should begin with Florida State and Clemson. They'd give the Big 12 a national footprint, balance the West Virginia side of the league and, most importantly, provide quality football competition and traditional fan bases.

One little problem: the grant of rights both schools signed with the ACC, forfeiting any TV revenue should they try to bolt. Runs through 2027.

Boren is well aware of such problems and told the World he's not sure what would happen if schools challenged a GOR in court.

This Dallas-based person seems to agree that OU is as good as gone.

This is just Texas striking back at Boren. It's going to be an interesting few weeks until the next B12 meeting.

I have an idea how they can erase some of that WBB red ink....

If they sell out the Erwin Center at its current capacity, it's $12 per ticket (average price) x 16,700 seats, plus concessions. Probably $275k in revenue.
