I came away impressed with Smith, Reibe, and Ross especially today. Much better job on the boards. We got beat by guard penetration a fair amount today so that’s one thing to work on, but overall a strong defensive effort. I liked the screening, passing, and movement without the ball today.

You’re not crazy. I saw that replay and it did look like the ball hit the rim. The announcers said nothing so I assumed it was the camera angle.

His first crush was the freshmen not playing at UConn and now he's gone all in on a bunch of 3rd-6 year transfers (Michigan) being this unstoppable juggernaut and a matchup nightmare for us. He thinks their talent blows away ours which is fine. It's annoying and nonsensical that he does this and that he always takes shots at our guys while doing it but whatever.

It's one thing to critique and be critical of the play of our players (good and bad.) We all do that and we should do that but RuffRuff makes these wild declarations that we only have three plus players on our entire team and now he's questioning the heart of a player on our team who is playing injured. There is no damn reason to do that, it's ridiculous and there is no basis for it.

Edit: I think I understand… the actual time of foul from your perspective (i.e., when the whistle blew) was BEFORE the 2:10 game clock stop time. Thus, it was within the 20 seconds that started at 2:32… can’t (maybe, maybe not) have phantom time to continue the shooting motion, and if not, you can’t count the basket. But he was still shooting a three, so, three shots. Interesting perspective. I appreciate it for sure.

But again, when you say it's 2:32, that was the time the ball clanged off the rim. The actual time that Reibe gained possession and the 20 second clock started was a second or two later.

This is only if time expired. Then they can go back in time.

I agreed with that and so I wrote that in the post you were responding to.

In this case, they can't go back in time because the 20 seconds had not yet expired when he was fouled.

I'm also not sure of which reset your are talking about. The announcers were confused. The clock operator did not mess up in the first instance; the clock reset when Malachi's shot hit the rim and Reibe came down with the rebound. That was proper and by the book.

What was improper was his clock reset after the Karaban shot.

No... that wasn't the explanation given.

This screenshot also doesn't capture the reset of the clock which did not happen at 2:32.

It happened at 2:31 or 2:30.

This makes all the difference.

Look at this screenshot: 2:29 on the clock. 19 seconds on the play clock. If the guy hadn't reset the clock after Karaban's miss, the play clock would have expired at either 2:11 or 2:10. Malachi was fouled before 2:11 (the whistle came at that time) but he let the ball go at 2:10.

[For some reason my screenshot off of youtube tv is just blacked out, but trust me the clock reset properly, and at 2:29, the play clock was at 19 seconds.]

How could the refs make any other ruling?

Toughing out pain was exactly what he did by playing today.
 
There’s a little bit of human reaction time on a shot clock reset - you have to see possession clearly and then push one of two buttons. It’s never going to reset the instant someone squeezes the ball.

But if they did a film review with a stopwatch, maybe that’s when they would have to start it.

For argument sake, you could say that Malachi was fouled within the 20 seconds BUT he let the ball go AFTER the 20 seconds had run out. So you wipe away the 3 and give him 3 foul shots.

Kollieman's math and understanding is bad on this one.

Except, you know, when he played through the remainder of the game he actually got hurt in to make sure we won

This is wrong. Show me a 20 playclock with 2:32 on the screen. I can show you a 2:29 screenshot with 19 seconds.

So, in my opinion, they made the wrong determination to count the basket and also offered a factually untrue explanation for that decision.

I don’t know why so much obsession about that call. The refs made a lot of mistakes and bad calls today. It was an awful crew and in my opinion the mistakes mostly benefited Illinois.

Also the clocks on TV aren’t always the real
clocks.

Not just this game - last year he had a tendency to drift if things weren’t going well.

And yeah - the koolaid mafia is out. Say 10 positive things and the defense mafia will zero in on the one non.

Hurley said his health was about a week out in post game.
