Illinois Post Game Thread

Because I’m a UConn fan and we won.

There is a contingent here that aren’t actual UConn fans. I’m convinced
I don’t even know how to respond to that. It was clearly incorrect AND I love UConn basketball and am glad we won - an outcome I’m very confident would have been a win even if they got that call right.

God forbid this play happened with Illinois shooting and they said shot counted. Refs would have been crucified on here. We do win anyway even if that basket didn't count. Reibe was great and they need to find a way to give Smith minutes even when Demary is not in foul trouble.
Exactly! I’m just looking what’s right and true. Btw the postgame complaint was wrong too. It shouldn’t have been a violation. It WOULD have been, but then they reset the clock. So it should have been a wash: no basket, UConn possession with 2-4 seconds to shoot.

I think this is the second game this year that a Ross three caused the other team to call timeout. Daggers
In real time it looked like Ross got all ball and a potential tie up when he was whistled for a foul. That was the play that almost made Hurley take his jacket off. The broadcast did a bad job in not showing a good replay from what I could tell. Did anyone get a clear look on that play if Ross had all ball there?

They clarified that earlier in the possession they didn’t reset they clock when they should have, which apparently added up to making it not close when Malachi shot it.

Edit: that’s what the announcers said, but it’s not what happened. That situation calls for official postgame follow-up. It worked in our favor, but it was not good officiating (in my opinion).
I was going by the reset of the actual shot clock which happened at 2 seconds. So, if Malachi hadn't shot the ball until the clock hit 17 after reset, it would've been a shot clock violation.

On what basis in the rules could the refs possibly wipe out the shot? They could only go by the actual timing as shown.

2 seconds left on the clock on reset.
18 seconds left when Malachi shot the ball.

If the refs had made any other decision than they did, they'd be making up the rules on the spot.

Yeah I've been following UConn since Dom Perno days, and I love UConn with passion. I guess some fans just think if you question anything, then you are not a fan. Ridiculous!

This is in the pantheon of stupidest things ever seen on the 'yard.
I’ve been on this BY for almost 27 years
lurking and have been a poster since 2012-13
To break into the top 100 stupidest posts is probably the most difficult thing to accomplish. If you include the conference realignment forum breaking into the top 1000 is elite company..

Beating a good Illinois team with a not quite 100% lineup is impressive. Now go win in Lawrence and our OOC resume is outstanding. Really glad Reiner got this opportunity to develop into a real contributor. That is so important for March. Now Mullins should get his shot with limited pressure.

Solo shot is broken. 2-9 from three.
He scored a lot of points in 1st half to give UConn the cushion they played with all game. Making the first three of the game was big. His poor shooting from 3 is concerning.

Correct: 22 seconds had elapsed.
Where are you coming up with this?

It's just wrong.

Let's do the math again.

20 second clock was reset when the prior play clock hits 3. That's 17 seconds elapsed into the play clock. Malachi shot with 18 seconds left into the reset clock.

This is why the refs could only do one thing: rule that 19 seconds had elapsed into the play clock. Any other decision would've been wrong.

It wasn't incorrect. Your math is incorrect.

The refs have to STOP play for that to happen. You don't rewind whatever happened before the whistle UNLESS the refs missed the expiration of the clock.

Look, we see this all the time.

A team gets the ball and the clock doesn't reset. The refs blow the whistle. The team then inbounds the ball. But they don't get to start from the time the play clock should've started. They begin from the point the whistle blew and the refs account for the proper elapsed time.

They never start play from the point the clock should (or should not have been) reset.

I got it from seeing Reibe gain possession of the rebound and have the shot clock reset with 2:32 on the game clock. Then the whistle for the shooting foul stopped the clock at 2:10. The weird thing about the freeze frame I attached is it shows 30 on the shot clock, which was a momentary flash before it said 20 and began counting down (an anomaly I noticed throughout the broadcast).
