Good head coaches you got to pay a minimum of $3.0M for starters. MBB assistants I think make between $275,000 and $325,000. A good football coordinator you should pay at least $450,000 at UConn.
Maybe off thread a bit, but down here in Charlottesville, 2 Athletic financial gifts of note. This year: One from an alum for $7 Million which is distributed among Student Health Services Center but also all athletic upgrades and an anonymous $5 Million gift strictly for athletics. UVA kicking off a 5 BILLION Dollar Fund raising Campaign. 2 major Private gifts to UVA just this year, 2019, one, the largest in School history, $120 Million for a Data Sciences Center and just 2 days ago a combo gift of $100 Million from a 1961 graduate alum from Rochester New York.
One other note, the ladies softball team is in the process of building an absolutely beautiful stadium/field. For those unfamiliar, the first class Baseball Stadium, the combo Soccer/Lacrosse Stadium, UVA Track Stadium, and now the Softball Stadium are all literally rubbing shoulders with each other right across the street from the 15,000 seat John Paul Jones BB area that opened in 2006 and the relatively new ladies Field Hockey facility. The 61,500 seat Scott Football Stadium is a leisurely half mile walk down a tree lined street. Yeah, UVA is loaded. Someone in the thread mentioned about academics and difficulty perhaps getting certain athletes, if an athletically minded qualified kid is looking at UConn and UVA..., well, they don't have to take a bus to the football stadium...Go Huskies.

Does the UVA fb team walk the half a mile to the stadium?

Good athletics make a school more attractive to all students. UConn's incoming classes improved greatly when BB started getting good. I don't buy the "lowering standards for football would be a huge mistake" argument. If big time football can work at state universities across the country, it can work for UConn. It is a shame that New England - and Connecticut, in particular - have such a snobbish attitude when it comes to D1 sports.

Th@nk you, thank you, thank you. I was thinking the same thing but you wrote it much better.

Schedule? What schedule? UConn has no schedule.

You are completely missing the point. Randy Edsall was hired to be the problem. The Administration made a strategic decision to sacrifice football for the sake of the basketball brand. Having made that strategic decision, the Administration reached the quite obvious corollary that the most logical football future is no football at all. That is what is going on. The pieces are being arranged to shut the program down with as little angst as possible. It's like a real-life NCAA version of the movie Major League.

Why would any coach stick his head into that noose?

Has anyone noticed how much our non revenue Olympic sports m&w soccer, etc has gone downhill since all this killing of the fb team? Even field hockey .

Field Hockey is 10-2 and ranked 4th in the nation currently. But otherwise, yes, looks like the soccer teams are middling, mens even struggling a bit.

CCSU you don’t have to look so smug.

Field Hockey is still great. They lost 2 games on the road to top 10 teams and have beaten several ranked teams. Women's Soccer started going down hill over 10 years ago. The head coach simply failed to keep it as one of the top programs on his way to retirement. AD Dave's hiring of his assistant was a white flag on that program. Men's soccer seems to have had a dramatic drop off corresponding to leaving the Big East for the AAC in recent years. All the men's hockey addicts assure me Cavanaugh always is a year or 2 away. I stopped buying that when they allowed a goal in the final seconds of a period for the 86th time. Women's Lacrosse went 2-14 last year. Recent struggles of football and men's hoop well documented with the hope Hurley is the answer for the basketball. There is no good answers for football.

But yeah it is noticeable to those that choose to notice it.

Seems the Athletic Department is allowing do nothing coaches to continue on with their do nothing. UConn was once the proud owner of excellent revenue and non revenue sports. Now no one seems to care. Maybe it needs a shakedown of all sports, except mbb, with a group firing, including the Ad Benedict on down. Just clear them all out, even the useless bloated administers. How many hand holders do we need. I am so disgusted by it all.

Let's think of the positives for a prospective coach:
  1. Division 1 football program, from a state flagship university, with a history of success
  2. Name recognition (primarily from other sports, but still)
  3. Located near NYC, Boston, and Hartford/New Haven markets and an international airport
  4. Great on-campus facilities
  5. Fan base that loves a winner and will come back if winning returns
A closer can sell this package to a new coach. No coffee for AD Dave until he closes!

I still say reach out to the CCSU coach and gage his level of interest. We could get him on the relative cheap and have some money for coordinators.

Didn't Central CT lose to Eastern Michigan? Why do we want Central's coach as the UConn coach?

The current head coach at CCSU McCarthy is coaching this season with an interim tag. Former HC Pete Rossamondo is OL coach at Rutgers.

Team is 5-1 lost to EMU on a blocked punt returned for TD with 10 sec left.

Should win out and finish 11-1 atop NEC. Which isn't saying much of anything. That's a terrible conference.
